Yeah, you know what, I'm live here in Shiawassee County.
One of the things to remember, he's got the game ball in his bag.
That's what they're going to be playing with on Sunday
when the Lions take on the Packers.
This is all for a great cause, and it is in honor of his wife,
who has stage 2 breast cancer.
She actually ran with him a little bit today.
He's got a whole caravan that's been following him,
and at some point, he's going to run across this way.
Right now, he's in the middle of the woods,
kind of close to Sleepy Hollow National State Park.
I've never been over there.
It's kind of by Victor Township, but the signal was bad,
so we're over here where he's going to be.
Take a look at some of the video from earlier today.
He started out, and he ran through St. John's,
which is north of Lansing,
and he's really taking these back roads out here.
And this is all going to be raising money
for breast cancer research through Henry Ford Health,
And their goal is $50,000. Right now they've raised more than $25,000.
Take a listen to this young man, his wife, and Henry Ford Health.
I'm obviously honoring it to my wife who has stage 2 breast cancer.
But it's important for me because some people are going
to want to give up during their fight for cancer.
I've wanted to give up the last three days. I'm going to keep pushing.
And then obviously all the money that we raise goes back
to help those families that need the support.
And my wife and I are blessed with a great support system,
as you can see right here on the run.
These are all my friends and family.
So we want to give that support back to others that may not have it.
We needed that help along the way, and we got it.
And this is a way that we can help others have that.
And it just means a lot
because it's coming from a personal experience to me.
The support he brings will help them
when they need it the most with things like meals, utility bills, rent,
and even therapies like acupuncture
or Reiki that make treatment more bearable.
The Game on Cancer initiative
also funds research that changes the trajectory of this disease.
So his run really will be felt
by patients long after he crosses a finish line at Ford Field.
If you want to help or make a donation,
you can check it out at GameBallRun.com.
Cody has got until Saturday afternoon to get to Ford Field.
He's got quite the way to go
because right now I've been a reporter for a long time and I'm not
super duper sure what road this even is we're at Michigan 52
and something but
this is his route out here Rob, I'm live Scott Walchek Fox 2 News.
Yeah Scott when people do
good things like this you know people go oh wow
that's just great it makes you feel good when you
watch the story and I know money is tight for a lot of people
but if people are able to donate
it really is a great way to say look we're a part
of this 313 mile run yes and Henry Ford Health
also said that there's not like any administration fees
that sometimes you see if you make a donation
to a hospital or cancer research this is all going straight
to the patients to help out with different
kinds of things so really good cause
and really good people who are running this guy's not a
professional runner.
He's in good shape, but he's definitely a real person.
And I feel for his
family. They're a very young family.
And for his wife to have that diagnosis, it's a pretty scary
thing, but she's fighting through it.
A real good person and obviously a really good family. This is
good stuff. Hey, Scott Wolchek, thanks for that good news tonight.
People trying to help their
family and help the community at the same time.
