She wasn't expecting to rescue a dog that morning
Oct 21, 2026
I was coming into work. My eyes spotted a dog.
She was kind of beaten up looking.
She looked super confused as to where she was.
Because I'm sort of involved in animal rescue,
I always keep dog food and cat food in my trunk of my car and water.
You okay?
I couldn't leave her right there.
I decided to take her to my vet. When I
did finally get to take her home, she would run into things.
It was kind of hard to watch.
They did not outright say she was blind until recently.
My vet's like, oh, she's fully blind.
when she first came into the home she
was very shut down making herself as small as possible
when i brought my other dog back over it's like
a light bulb turned on in her like all of a sudden
her tail started wagging when we're out there
and it's good weather she loves to just do these weird
little bunny hops and jump all over
the yard she's completely blind there's not a lot of obstacles
that get in the way so she can go crazy out
in the grass if she wants to it's so amazing dogs
like her and a lot of them are pit mixes they have
this like childlike personality they are just
full of so much joy and resilience
and they tend to be the dogs we see most abused and mistreated
because they can be used for guard dogs fighting things like
that but or breeding in Susie's case
i do think someone mistreated her she has scars still some parts
of her legs that i think came
from defensive wounds from other dogs we don't know the full story
but when it comes to Susie
the minute you let her outside
and the other dogs are with her she will run into that backyard like
just she's not blind she'll do circles Susie happy we call
her like Bronco Susie because
she'll jump up in the air and kick her legs up
and just act a complete fool roll on the ground
she doesn't have much reservation about just going headfirst
into life and to having fun
which is such like a cool thing to see with an animal
because humans go through hard things too
And I don't know if we even bounce back that quick from trauma,
you know, so she's full of joy.
