Banan Winery - Battambang Cambodia

The owner started growing grapes in 2000 as an alternative to the usual rice or oranges that dominate agriculture in Battambang province. After a few early setbacks, not to mention a host of naysayers telling her that you could not grow grapes in Cambodia, and certainly not for wine, they delivered their first vintage in 2004.
Harvest time comes twice a year here in the sunny land of fish and rice, and harvesting 8,000 plants by hand is no easy task, in fact, she has to hire as many people as she can afford to help, ensuring that fermentation can be started the same day.
These people are incredibly hard-working, delivering a winery where you would least expect one. They have started a new flower garden, which is quite pleasant to stroll around.
It looks like they will be offering their venue as a place for weddings. Which I think is a great idea. I think they should also open it up for corporate services too and work on a kitchen to round out their offerings.
