WNBA star sets sights on a Hollywood career
Oct 20, 2026
After you win the game, you get all the girls
to sign their names on your jersey.
So I have some of the biggest names in women's basketball.
Candace Parker, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, the list goes on.
So this jersey is worth a lot from them names.
And this one is a really, really cool picture
because if you look close, you see that
it's not only a women's team, but it's the men's team too.
So right here you see Draymond Green,
Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant,
a lot of cool names on that picture.
And you don't see that often.
You don't see the men's team and women's team
collectively like that.
So this picture was really, really special.
So I'm Angel McCarty.
I'm a two-time Olympic gold medalist,
five-time WNBA All-Star, two-time leading scorer
in the WNBA, top 25 of all time.
The list goes on.
We'll be here all day.
And right now, I'm still a free agent,
figuring out what my next move is in the WNBA.
A typical day off could be just me chilling.
I'll probably get in a sauna, sweat out all my stress,
watch some movies, eat some ice cream,
because I'm a big ice cream fan, as you know.
Got McCarty's ice cream coming out.
So that's a typical, like, me day.
I started playing basketball at eight years old.
Someone in my mom's job was like,
your daughter's tall, you should get her into basketball.
My mom was like, how do I do that?
So I started playing at my local rec.
I hated it at first,
because I couldn't catch the ball or do much.
But my mom was like, just go back and try it again.
And I did, and I just got better and better.
Went to high school at St. Francis Academy.
That school has become famous now.
That's the school where Angel Reese also attended.
So you got two angels and two angels
from Baltimore in the same high school.
I went to the school called Louisville, which was in Kentucky.
When I got there as a freshman, I was eager to just play.
I remember our first game, we had no fans.
And the day before, I went to the men's game and saw all these fans,
and I couldn't wait to play my first college basketball game,
and there was no fans at our game.
And I remember saying to myself, this is going to change.
I'm not standing for this.
And we just really started buckling down and winning,
and we got ranked for the first time.
Each year we got past the first round, second round, sweet 16,
and by my senior year, we had average 10,000 plus fans,
got drafted number one to Atlanta, and pretty much that was one
of the toughest drafts because you had Marissa Coleman,
DeWanna Bonner, Renee Montgomery, and now the rest is history.
I mean, to have such a great career at Atlanta Dream,
we've been to the finals three times.
I've had a great career.
I'm standing on my own basketball court here
in Atlanta in Madison Park with my name on it.
You know, you don't see many women do those kind of things.
When the season is going,
we have practice for like two to three hours, so I get up early
for that and I prep.
I go lift weights, I go do treatments,
because I'm one of the older players, I'm a vet.
Then I get ready for practice, and then after practice,
I take a nap, because I'm exhausted
from practice.
My name is John Lewis, I am Angel's functional trainer.
I've been doing this for over 26 years,
every sport, I'm a functional trainer and making
sure everybody stay quick and fast
but also flexible at the same time so we can
prevent injuries.
What makes Angel so special is she takes care of her body
and we're sure that she needs
to work out every day some kind of muscle groups
and understand conditioning
and the mental aspect of it is very important
but Angel just always push it to the next level
no matter what time it is and
what condition it is she gonna put in that work.
Today we're at the epicenter
where we're getting a total body workout.
Today we did a functional movements with
the cables and making sure she work on that core,
stability, and also just
balance. My name is Kenneth Monroe.
I am Angel's manager, business partner. I'm a
20-year veteran entertainment entrepreneur. I am the president of
Legacy Management. Angel is a leader.
Her work ethic is second to none. What makes
her different to me
is that you know you don't see many WNBA players that's into
so many different things you know most
athletes especially athletes that have
accomplished what she's accomplished
whatever sport they're in that's the
total focus but what makes her different
and what I love about her is that she's
such a creator and and she don't mind
she's fearless she don't mind having her
hands in so many different things
if she fails she failed but she's not afraid to
try it I mean she's
into everything ice cream movies music tech company PS I
with you. So a legacy started from Angel.
It was an idea that she had. Some of my future goals is
to win a WNBA championship. I think that's the last piece
of the puzzle in my career. I would love to,
you know, continue to make more movies
and eventually be on the big screen. I love bringing
stories to life. I would love to have a record deal
and continue to give back to the community.
I would love to have a community center one day for the kids.
I think the main thing is to inspire
the youth that you can do it, you know.
I just started playing basketball at eight. I never
imagined being an Olympian. It never crossed my mind.
I never imagined I would have my own
basketball courts, you know, courts.
There's another one in Louisville. But all that came
from just following a passion that I love.
And it's just showing the kids that it really is
that easy if you follow your passion, stick with it.
You're watching Days Off, only on Whistle.
