What's up everyone?
Carly Lloyd here, former professional soccer player, two-time World Cup
champion, and this is Players Breakdown.
In this episode, I am going to break down three up-and-
coming U.S. Women's National Team players.
Let's check them out. Sophia Smith, a forward, she has
really been coming into her own.
She's been taking on this new role of being a leader. She's been
scoring she can score from so many different angles so many different
positions on the field
and she just honestly makes so much happen so I'm
really excited to see what she's gonna continue
to bring to this team as she's
gonna be a very important piece I think
for her being named the youngest MVP
it's it's a precedent that she's setting she knows
her value she's confident she
takes care of herself both on and off
the field she's uber competitive and I
think that you know her potential is ultimately up to her.
The sky's the limit for her and she's
really set herself apart as a very big goal scoring threat.
Naomi Girma, she plays defender,
central defender. You often don't see a player this young,
this inexperienced coming in and
playing with so much confidence, calmness and poise.
Her positioning's great and she's just honestly
really good overall as a central defender.
I'm really excited to see Naomi really just continue
to evolve as a player.
I think that she already is calm, cool, collected, poised.
She doesn't often get rattled or get nervous on the ball.
She's just really good on the ball,
can play a wide variety of passes.
And coming in inexperienced as a center back
to play with that much confidence already
and calmness is pretty amazing.
So I'm excited to kind of see how she continues that on
in bigger pressure moments, but she's been fun to watch.
Trinity Rodman, forward.
Trinity has been doing so well
just as far as her unpredictability.
She's done tremendously well in the NWSL
for Washington Spirit,
and she's a competitor through and through.
I love the pace that she has,
and she's really showing the qualities that she can bring
to help the US Women's National Team.
I think what makes Trinity stand out
from other younger players is her ability
to be unpredictable, her ability to play
with that chip on her shoulder, but be confident,
but also be a student of the game
and learn and try to get better.
And so she's fun to watch, you know,
anything is possible with her.
And she's really set herself apart in the NWSL
and now has translated that to the US Women's National Team.
Alyssa Thompson, forward.
Alyssa Thompson has come into the league from high school.
And I have never seen a player of her caliber
that young playing so well.
She mixes up her game.
She knows when to take players on.
She knows when to dish it off.
She's not afraid to take shots from all different angles.
And she's got incredible pace.
I mean, it's unbelievable that she's just come
from high school, into the pros,
and it's like she hasn't skipped a beat.
I mean, she's scoring goals, she's helping Angel City FC.
She's doing so well to bring so much to her game.
The advice I would give Alyssa is to try to block out
the pressures, to try to block out the noise
of all of the externals that's coming with that.
People are gonna start to expect she scores all the time
and expect her to do this and expect her to do that,
and I think it's so important for a younger player
to not get too ahead of yourself
and to try to stay in the moment
and to just keep enjoying it one step at a time.
I just finished breaking down players
who I believe are going to have bright futures
on the U.S. Women's National Team.
