What's up, everyone?
Carly Lloyd here, former professional soccer player,
two-time World Cup champion,
and this is Players Breakdown.
In this episode, I am going to break down
some of my top players of all time.
Formiga, who played for Brazil,
she played as a holding center midfielder.
She was just unbelievable as a player,
could literally do it all, dictate the tempo,
had some creative flair, her passing ability,
and she played for a really long time.
She made everything look so easy.
It was really hard to get the ball away from her.
She always put herself into really good positions
and was able to literally see what was happening
around her on the field and break lines
and make some key, key passes.
Christine Lilly, who played in the midfield,
played forward at time.
I had the privilege and honor of being able to play
Christine Lilly watched her play growing up she just always did all
the dirty work she was a
workhorse super fit could score goals an unbelievable teammate
and I think one of the most
underrated players in in the history of the game
her iconic save off of the goal line in the world
cup was was massive for them to be able to clinch
that game I think Christine Lilly was just just so
good at just being super steady her whole entire career. She was barely
injured. She made the plays when they counted
and she was an unbelievable
player. Michelle Akers is somebody that I looked up to.
Michelle Akers played
midfield, she played forward at times depending
on the formation, but she was
just such an unbelievable player.
I mean a player who you talk about would run
through a brick wall to do anything to win.
Winning was her middle name. She did
whatever it took. She played through injuries. She often put herself in
difficult positions to throw her body out
on the line for her team and one of
the most clutch and iconic players to put
on the US jersey. Just the way that
she went about herself
in the game you know it wasn't about anything other than
winning. She did whatever it took to win
and you could see that. I never was
fortunate enough to be able to play
with her but watching her grow up wearing the
number 10 jersey, seeing her compete,
seeing her score goals in big-time
moments, you know, that's
when you look at players that really just take the game
on their shoulders and do whatever it takes to help the team win.
Marta played forward Brazil.
She scored some really unbelievable goals against
our team several times.
One of the most impressive goals I have ever seen a
player score was in the 2007 World Cup Brazil beat us very badly
and she scored
this unbelievable goal and you can't help
but just take a bow for her in that
moment it was it was unbelievable
and she's just been a trailblazer someone
who has done so much for the sport
on and off the field and has just brought
such a creative style that she will always
be remembered for that you just
saw me break down some of my favorite players of all time,
some I got the privilege of playing with
and against. Let me know in the comments
who is your favorite of all time.
