The Kansas City Chiefs defeat
the Los Angeles Chargers 22-6 right here at Arrowhead Stadium.
They improved to 5-0 on the NFL season, already 3-0 in the AFC West.
I'm Pete Sweeney with the Kansas City
Star for three things that stood out.
It's a weekly thing now.
Last week I said I'm a broken record.
Well, I'm a broken record saying that I'm a broken record again.
Kenneth Walker, he's just been incredible.
All the yardage on the ground today, the two touchdowns.
Patrick Mahomes said in his press
conference, when Walker touches the ball,
I know he's going to break the first tackle.
This is probably the best free agency signing
in the tenure of Brett Veach,
And I not only think that he's going
to be in the Offensive Player of the Year conversation,
but maybe even the MVP conversation.
He is playing that well.
On offense, I also want to mention Xavier Worthy.
Worthy had a slow start to the season and was taking some criticism.
And this is now back-to-back games with 70 yards.
It was more important because Tyquan Thornton was out.
Rasheed Rice also out for this week.
I think it could play into a really potent Chiefs offense,
especially when Rice gets back maybe as early as next week.
Second point, just because this game went okay,
doesn't mean the work is done. Patrick Mahomes mentioned it.
Andy Reid mentioned it. Ken Walker
mentioned it. There are little things to fix,
especially short yardage and in the red zone.
Those mistakes that happened today,
they're okay against a lowly team like the Los Angeles Chargers,
but up ahead you have the world champion Seattle Seahawks
and then the Denver Broncos who are
playing well both on the road.
Those little moments are going to matter once you face
better teams. Finally, my last point,
the defense, the sack drought is over. The Chiefs actually
doubled their sack total on the season.
They got their first sack since week one. They now have
eight total after the four out here today.
I talked to George Karlaftis in the locker room.
He said once you get those first few sacks,
they tend to come in bunches, and this is probably
going to mean a better thing for the Chiefs.
They did hold the Chargers to six points. They're
bending, not breaking in the red zone.
Nick Bolton said inside the locker room they call them
four-point plays, and they had a couple of those today,
which led to the difference. The Chiefs
win 22 to 6 against the Los Angeles Chargers
for the Kansas City Star these have been three things
