Will this Save the Sea Cliff from Collapse?
Oct 18, 2026
This is a major development.
That's the hardest working dude at Caltrans right there.
Oh this one's gonna smack the wall really good.
There's definitely a hole in the bottom.
Yeah. We're way back from Newport
and of course there's
something going on at the Crystal Grove crack
or the fracture in the cliff. We had a Caltrans
putting a bunch of plastic tarps to prepare for the rain coming.
I think that's the only thing
that the tarp is probably going to be good
for it's definitely not blocking the waves from hitting
the bottom the rain is coming he'll never see
this crack ever again dang it gotta get my last crack
in dude this is where the crack is and the tarp
is over there they're doing the whole thing they're
gonna have to tarp the whole hillside i think kind
of help avoid a major slide with all the rain
this is a major development look at this guy
in the water down here oh gosh gosh darn why are they
doing this at high tide that's the hardest worker
that's the hardest working dude at Caltrans right
there just back to the ocean just taking it it's kind
of a medal of honor what's gonna happen with
that pipe when it uh that pipe doesn't work anymore
i don't think i think that's old infrastructure
but i could be wrong it has to be that would
be crazy to put a tarp over a pipe a storm drain
dude this is a major development this is what's
crazy to me too is like this tarp's not going to
do anything with the ocean washing up like all it's going
to do is save save the bluff maybe
some time from rain
but it's not going to prevent
the ocean from just
completely smoking it they've
got a lot of tarpon to do that's
a big project i'm pretty certain that crack is definitely look
at this thing it looks wider yeah
for sure right yeah i don't think it's all gonna go at once i
think it's just gonna gradually get bigger
and bigger unless i'm wrong and maybe it just takes
i'm gonna reattach it
so what are you gonna do oh you guys are out of here i think like the
rain's only coming wednesday now oh
this guy might be emptying his boots out too
this guy's like why
am i here just shaking his head
he's like dude i'm up to my waist
he he actually almost got washed away on the one really yeah
is the tide high right now is it going
down it's it's no it's high tide right now he's
so he's so over it i mean i don't blame him yeah
they should have watched the tides it actually
looks different too oh look at this is way smaller
wouldn't you say like
these little chunks
are not as big
as they were this
is a only a four point four foot high tide
to what's crazy though is it's
still washing up to the bottom of the cliff
at a four point four foot high
this is gonna be the lowest tide
that we've looked at down here but
even the low tide there's waves still
coming up and hitting the hitting the
so I don't know it'll be interesting
to see we saw we saw like a hole in front of the
certain sand wall the other day
and now that it's a little bit lower tide we're
gonna go see if if it's actually a hole
or what it is yeah check it out some
more same spots
but we found found some different stuff after looking looking
closely at some
of the old shots we got sand coming back sand coming back this
one's gonna smack
the wall really good yep
that was a good one man
swell's still pretty good size
right now the big ones actually are breaking out kind of far
and i think they're not hitting the
wall as hard as the the smaller ones are all pretty good
though that's still a really good
size wave this is kind of old news
but about two weeks ago a part of the bluff below the agate
street public access just sloughed off
and they have this completely blocked they have a lot of
public accesses completely blocked
because there's no ending you can walk down to the bottom of
these and you're in a death pit of rocks
and ocean just waves hitting the bluff so yeah this is uh
this is probably some of like the worst it's ever
been here as far as like sand loss goes there was
actually a little bit more sand in front of the surfing sand
but it's still still looking more
like the surfing boulder than the surfing sand how
was that crack looking in the there's definitely a
hole in the bottom yeah from the waves
or do you think it was there already i honestly don't know
it was hard to see
on the LCD yeah
the surface looks
so peaceful from up
here back here at beautiful
Eliso so this tractor yesterday was putting
in new uh new boulders over here trying to harbor
the coming season or maybe the Eliso construction site four tractors
in the parking lot not a great
sign but hey look they got all
the sand uh off there people
on those light poles like hang out
right outside your car oh i've stood on those light poles
that's what those are yeah those are gone yeah
i've been noticing that there's not a whole lot
of lifeguards in any of the towers in Laguna anymore
and uh this is probably one of the few beaches
this thousand steps maybe like West Street um
where there are lifeguards in a tower
but basically there's no beaches to lifeguard
anymore so it seems like there's a lot
of uh unmanned towers on the weekend and pretty much
just a roving um lifeguard truck is my that's
my guess of what they're doing but i think normally
on a weekend they would have their towers completely filled
or full but i think now with
like you literally can't go down to the beach
at mountain you can't go down to the beach at
crest really you can't go down
to the beach at Thalia like they're not putting lifeguards
in those towers and uh
on the weekend too you know there's there's no lifeguards in that
mountain tower today like businesses
and local people are impacted more than more by this than
he just showed me just started watching your stuff
when we were down here the other day we saw
that palm tree getting pulled down and that's one of
many that have gotten taken down in this lot they're used
to line a lot of this front part
of the parking lot like this whole zone was like
a a green area you could stand on like a little
grass patch with palm tree
and you could see that the full root systems were exposed and they just
weren't hanging on to anything anymore
so they had to take a lot of them down just for safety reasons
so they were pretty compromised Peruna you want to go back to the crack
