Welcome to the News at 10. I'm Dave Kinchin.
Thank you for joining us tonight. A deadly car
crash on Detroit's West Side leaves
a 12-year-old boy dead after he was hit while crossing the
street. Just horrific. Fox 2's Camille O'Meary
is live outside Detroit Police Headquarters with
details on this tragedy. Camille?
Yeah, this is just an absolutely horrible story. It could have
been prevented. It did happen in broad daylight.
Take a look at some video that we actually
captured later on just to show you where this happened.
So it was Puritan and Coyle. The boys
were crossing. And when I say boy, it was the victim,
the 12-year-old victim and his brothers
crossing Puritan at Coyle just after 3.15 this afternoon
when the crash happened. Police say
two different cars hit the 12-year-old boy.
He died on the scene. Witnesses say the cars were
coming from opposite directions now both drivers did stop
and they are cooperating with police
the boy lived a little more than a half a block away
on Coyle Street take a listen to what some
witnesses had to say i watched this baby get hit instinct
because i'm certified as a nurse's aid
i jumped out and took his pulse he did he said
and he died i said he don't have a pulse but i
watch that baby bleed out.
No matter what, I'm a mom and I'm a mother. That could have been any
one of our kids and it hurts real bad, no matter who it is.
That's a messed up situation. My heart
go out to his mom. Absolutely horrible.
Again, this boy just crossing the street with his brothers
when this happened. We want to tell you
that the speed limit on that stretch of Puritan we looked
is 30 miles per hour but we do not know how fast
those cars that hit the boy were going for now we
are live outside Detroit Police Headquarters Camille
and Mary Fox 2 News yeah Camille there's
just no words so devastating i know uh it's
not clear how fast those cars were going uh have
neighbors been concerned about that stretch
of roadway before at all whether it be speed or
anything else yeah they have they have they say that cars speed up
and down that stretch all the
time they would like to see a street light
or maybe even some speed humps put in uh they say
that this was just a tragedy waiting
to happen we're thinking absolutely yeah we're thinking
about the family uh tonight thank you
so much uh Fox News Camila Miri live at Detroit Police
headquarters
