The knock is shortly before that and the only reason we knocked is we saw him retreat back into the motel with a third party and kind of have to engage at that point. Casas had four felony probation violation warrants for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest in a vehicle, and for possessing and dealing drugs. Police say one of Casas' weapons was reported as stolen, but they didn't specify which one. Unfortunately, Mr. Casas decided to take his life, but it's our job to try to protect the city and we're going to be very proactive in going after individuals that are committing crimes. Sky 4 captured a white Mercedes and a black Mercedes towed from the scene. Police confirmed one of the vehicles was driven by Casas when he was spotted by officers. Police also interviewed someone who was inside the motel room with Casas, but it is not clear how the two were connected. Dallas police say Casas' family has been notified and the investigation is ongoing. The officer who fired their weapon has been on the force since 2019. This is the 11th officer involved shooting so far this year in Dallas.
