Have you heard of drive-through voting?
For just today and tomorrow, the City of Kitchener has
opened a drive-through polling station.
You could just vote and not even have to unbuckle your seat.
Hi, welcome to the drive-through.
Just under 200 electors have cast their ballot. Yes, we had about
a 45-minute lineup this morning.
Some eager beavers pulled into the parking lot at 10:30,
wanted to be the first car to go through the drive-through voting.
Great feedback so far from
electors that are using this opportunity,
some with mobility challenges, we've had some
new and expecting parents taking the opportunity
while children are sleeping to come in and cast
their ballot. So I have to be really careful
not to film people are actually casting their ballots
in this little white booth over here,
but here's an idea of what it could look like if you drove
through yourself. So it's very similar to an in-person voting location,
so just like in person
the voters asked for their identification once they're crossed off
the list and given a ballot
the only difference is their ballot
is in this handy privacy screen again purpose built and
designed for drive-through voting has
a hard bottom allows electors to have it delivered to
them through their window the ballot is safe
and secure inside they mark their ballot and then
return their ballot to the tabulator system for casting
so very similar the only difference is
they don't have to get out of the car to do it
not having done this before we weren't sure what the
turnout would be like and again we were very pleased
with that first initial turnout and then
just periodically throughout the day to see cars come
in and take advantage of it is a wonderful
feeling.
