Penn Wood High School students protest after district suspends all sports

Take you to Delaware County at this hour because a local high school, Pennwood High School, has decided to suspend all athletic activities. Why? Well, Chris O'Connell, he's going to pick up the story from here. Chris, good to see you. Good afternoon, Thomas. That is the big question, is why? And that is a question that is not answered today here in Lansdowne. We're outside of the Pennwood High School and the William Penn School District Administration building where there is disappointment and confusion this morning after the school district suspended all athletic activities in the school district. That includes the high school and the middle school. Take a look behind me before we get to some video. Well, some video. This is Penwood High School. We could tell you as the news came down, There was a student walkout today here at Pennwood High School. Many students protesting that decision by the school district, mainly because all of the sports now suspended. Every single sport right now of the William Penn School District suspended. The school district sent out a statement saying that it is now appointed an outside investigator to look at information about student safety and well-being as being the top priorities. They said an incident led to this suspension of the school activities, the sports activities here at the school district. It will conduct a thorough review of its policies and student athletes. Right now, they're asking student athletes to come forward with any information, good and bad, as to maybe how they were treated in the sports programs here at the William Penn School District. Side note, Pennwood's varsity football team was supposed to play Chichester tonight in what would have been Chichester's senior night. Well, now that Pennwood has forfeited that game, the big question now is why? Why are all the sports here in Pennwood School District and the William Penn School District suspended? We're trying to find that out. Police were called to this walkout today. We're trying to find out if there were any arrests because one parent said their student was jumped outside this protest at this walkout today. So details still coming in, but a very disappointing Friday morning for all those in the William Penn School District, Thomas. sports every sport now suspended until further notice well that's it i mean it's hard to speculate here chris i think you would agree because if it were isolated to one particular sport let's say football or soccer you would assume something happened within that program but across all sports that's correct thomas and you you know we've well documented there's some high school football programs that have been shut down one because of hazing up in Sheltonham we You know, Harrington School District has eliminated its program just because for safety reasons, but to eliminate or suspend an entire sports program, a lot of parents have questions.
