Abigail Heyman (1942–2013) was an American photographer and photo editor, best known for her 1974 photobook Growing Up Female. She studied at the New School for Social Research in New York and began her career as a freelance photographer in the late 1960s. Her work often examined women’s roles and daily experiences, presenting them in ways rarely seen in mainstream media at the time.

In 1974 she published Growing Up Female: A Personal Photo-Journal, a book that combined documentary images, self-portraits, and text to explore the social and cultural expectations placed on women. The book became a landmark in feminist photography and was widely circulated internationally. In one notable section, Heyman photographed her own abortion procedure, an unprecedented act in photography of the period.

Heyman was the first woman to become a nominee member of Magnum Photos, joining in 1974. Alongside her photography, she worked as a photo editor and teacher, contributing to publications such as The New York Times Magazine, Life, and Ms.. She later published Butcher, Baker, Cabinetmaker (1976) and co-edited Growing Up Female in America: Ten Lives (1987). She died in 2013 at the age of 70.
