A woman in southwest Atlanta says someone stole
her savings from her apartment.
Angela Stevens had $13,000 in a safe, and now that safe is gone.
Fox 5's Tara Jabbour joins us live with more on the story.
Tara?
Well, that's right.
Angela Stevens says she has saved for years
to move into a two-bedroom apartment.
Now her savings are all gone after someone broke
into her apartment and stole her safe.
Angela Stevens has lived
at Sylvan Hills Senior Apartments for three years.
Inside of her apartment, she kept a safe with $13,000 in it.
She says every time she left her house,
she made sure to lock her closet with her safe inside of it.
I felt my house was safe.
I never thought nobody would come in here like that.
Who thought nobody had the right to come in my house when I'm not here?
Last week, she went to a doctor's appointment for under two hours,
and when she came home, her safe was gone.
I went in. I said, what's this box doing on the floor? A box of juices.
I looked up. All I could do was start crying. All I could do was cry.
My safe was gone. They had taken the lock off. They unscrewed it off.
Stevens says she thought a camera in her apartment hallway would
be able to catch who stole her safe,
but she says apartment management told her otherwise.
The camera doesn't work. I didn't know that the cameras didn't work.
Stevens is devastated because she was saving that money for a big move.
I've been saving this money for a long time.
It was a new apartment. I had to get ready to move.
My son is my caregiver now, so I'm able to get a two-bedroom apartment.
But it's more than the money. Now she feels unsafe in her home.
I feel violated.
I feel like someone has stolen my sense of security.
I don't like being here by myself,
and I don't like leaving my apartment when there's no one in here.
And I reached out to the apartment complex,
but I'm still waiting to hear back.
