Georgia has confirmed another measles case,
and that brings the total, looks like, to 22 this
year. But at the same time, flu season is also underway as well.
So what should families do
to protect themselves? That may be what you're asking
for the safety of your family. Well,
this morning we have Jane Rowling.
She's a pharmacist at the Walmart Supercenter on
Gresham Road. She's talking about vaccinations
and a special wellness event that's happening
on Saturday. So, Ms. Jane,
thanks for checking in with us today. Good morning.
Oh, good morning.
Thank you for having me.
I love your little, your energy today.
Get it.
Love it.
We love it.
Yes.
Always.
Yes.
Okay, so let's get into it.
You know, it's this whole thing.
You got flu season.
You got the measles cases in Georgia.
So what would be your biggest message to families right now, Jane?
It's a lot.
My biggest message for families right now
is to take advantage of our Walmart Wellness
day on saturday from 10
to 2 you can receive vaccines to protect yourself
and we're doing blood pressure checks
and BMI checks as well it's free to the community
okay and i i was i was listening
and i was a little bit distracted go back and tell me
when you said jane that this is going
to be happening the day and the time this
this saturday at over 4,600 walmart stores across
the nation walmart is providing extra staffing
to protect the communities across the nation
from 10 to 2 on this Saturday, October 17th.
Very nice. So I like to be prepared before I venture out,
especially if you're talking
about having the family in tow, right?
You know, surprises aren't always the best. So
what can folks expect at something like this?
And what do they need to have with them? Or
is it really just, Jane, a show up kind of thing?
It's really just a show up kind of thing,
but they can get an online account with Walmart
and scan or set up for their vaccines ahead of time
and make a schedule if they want to, or they can just show up.
We have paper forms they can fill out.
We want to make sure that the person is well enough to get vaccinated.
We're doing the right thing each and every time.
Mm hmm. So you're in a busy Wal-Mart Supercenter location there
on Gresham Road. You know, we see the medicine aisle behind you there.
I can imagine people stop in to talk to you
and they have questions they have. They have concerns.
And you're the gal that they seek out for this.
So what what are some of those those questions
and concerns you hear from folks about vaccines, Jane?
Well, some people are scared of needles.
That's very common. And so, you know, we talked to him
and I just had a customer this morning.
He said he's not sure if he wants to get vaccinated
because he just can't get over the needle, the needle shot.
So I've opened the door for him
to open conversations to maybe one day he can get his flu shot
and be protected like the rest of
the community. We take the time, we listen,
we tell the side effects, we tell everything ahead
of time, we tell them exactly what we're going to do,
what they can expect afterwards, and what to
do to make it easiest on them. Nice.
You know, something else I'm sure that you guys are helpful
with, Jane, is people knowing which vaccines that they actually need.
Is that a conversation that
people can have with you? That is.
They can come up to the counter and we can look at the state
registry, we can look at their vaccine registry
and see exactly what they do need. And we can give
them a pad like this that tells them exactly what they need.
So if they're not ready to get it that
day, they can come back at a later time to get it.
And then it's got a QR code so they can just
use their phone to read about the vaccines
and to set up an appointment.
I want to go back to this wellness event
that's happening this weekend. We talked about the
vaccines but what about health screenings
is that also going to be a part of it the health screenings
are part of it we're doing um at our store we're going
to be doing the blood pressure checks
and the BMI index um and then
also i have people that bring um they will bring their
prescription bottles in and ask me about different questions
if they still need it does this interact
with that might not even have a Walmart logo
on it we're here for the community it's a perfect
time for everyone yeah for everyone
and to get those questions answered i've got one more thing
for you uh what should customers know about insurance coverage
and cost so the insurance
coverage we can always check that before we do any vaccine
and everything insurances usually cover
all vaccines because it's preventative just like uh mr farmer
was talking about preventative with
the insurance this is preventative care for your health
our wellness day is like like taking care
of your body. It's your health.
It's got to take you all the way through. So we give out pointers
like drinking water. It looks like it's going
to be a beautiful weekend to be walking. So let's
get out there while that sun's shining.
Very, very nice. You know what? I noticed all the
buttons that you have, all the pins that you have.
You've been around a minute, huh?
I have. I'm working on 38 plus years with Walmart
and I'm very proud of it. The only way I can do
that is from having the support.
My certified techs, we have technicians that come in. They
learn. They take courses. They go and get certified.
They're very professional. Without
all of this support, we couldn't provide
the service that we provide to the Gresham Road
community. Very nice. Working on 38 years.
That is so impressive. Pharmacist Jane Rowling with
the Gresham Road Walmart Supercenter.
Jane, thanks for hanging with us here at 11 today.
Oh, thank you for having me.
And I'm so glad that we can get the word out there. So everybody come
see me 10 to 2 Saturday. There you have it.
Jane, thank you again. Thank you so much.
