Warren, I wonder how you look at today's quarterbacks,
because when you came into the
game, they frowned on the mobile quarterback
and the dual threat quarterback. You had to go to
Canada. You won all those championships up at the CFL.
Then you came back, and all of a sudden,
where we are today is kind of where you
were when you came into the league. No, I mean,
you were more of a pocket guy.
I played against you, but you had that dual threat ability.
I mean, when you see the game today, I mean, how come, again,
we've come this far from where it was.
I wonder what you think of it right now because this is what you were
when you came into the game.
Well, I love the way the game is played right now,
and it allows different styles of guys
to play the game that it never did before
because a lot of guys were more run-pass guys in college,
but that didn't transform to the National Football League.
But now it does. And it's given more guys,
especially African-Americans, more of an opportunity to play the game
because they have that dual threat capability.
So the game is a very wide open game today. There's more scoring today.
I think the quarterback play is exciting.
They're throwing the ball all over the yard.
But they also have the ability to use their legs
and make things happen, not just running the ball with their legs,
but getting outside the pocket,
buying more time and making those off platform throws.
What do you make of Brock Purdy?
Mike Martz was on with us a couple of shows ago and he was
talking maybe the most underrated quarterback in all of the NFL
and yet he's got a really great
play caller also in Kyle Shanahan and now
when you add Mike Evans to the mix there too on the
wideout spot there for him what's your take on Brock Purdy
and how he's developed so far?
I think he's developed tremendously
and I think San Francisco you know found a diamond in the
rough when they when they drafted him
in the seventh round I mean this kid has uncanny ability
in the pocket to move around and buy time
and make things happen with his legs he's very accurate
with the football his arm is stronger than what most people think it
is he doesn't throw the ball
down the field deep a lot but when he does he's effective with it
and then you have to have good
personnel around you know there's
no question I don't think any quarterback that has been
successful in this league has not had you know good guys
to work with and he does you know he's
got probably a Hall of Fame running back behind him in McCaffrey.
He's probably got a Hall of
Fame tight end in Kittle.
He's probably got a Hall of Fame left tackle in Leonard Williams.
He's probably got a Hall of Fame wide receiver in Mike Evans.
So you've got to have talent around
you, but you still, as a quarterback,
have to execute these plays and make things happen.
And he does that, and he does it as well
as anybody in the league right now.
Warren, I hope you take this as a compliment.
Is Josh Allen a bigger Warren Moon today in
today's game well again i didn't run as much as josh did
because the game didn't tell me to do
do that like like when i came into the league i i did it kind
of on my own but uh you know josh
they have called running plays for him they have
um you know plays that they run just for him to
run the football they have a you know a quarterback sneak
that's made just for him where he goes over
that left side and and almost scores
a touchdown every time i don't know i think he has something
like what 78 touchdowns or something like that on quarterback sneaks
so i mean 32 or something
like that so i i couldn't say that i'm i'm
a bigger i mean a smaller josh allen but uh josh
allen is is a tremendous talent
and i had some of the talents that he has but he probably has a
little more speed than me
and a little bit more size i tell you what like you said he's missed
only one ball game in like the last eight years
and he has some weapon like what he did on monday
man was insane with that 121 on the ground
