Thunder Bay, Ont., library workers go on strike

Today is day one of our strike, so as of 12:01 a.m., the library workers under 3120 and 8718 are all on strike. How many members have been affected? We're looking at approximately 70 members in total. And it's representing how many libraries across the city? All four of the public libraries, so everybody from cleaners right on up to librarians. And how long have negotiations been going on? So off and on for approximately a year. We're almost a year into an expired contract for both parties. So this is day one. What is your message to the public who rely on the library services? And that's a really fair question because we are very well aware of how valuable we are for the public and it's why this is the last resort. I hope that you can support us so that we can continue to offer you the service that you deserve. I would strongly encourage members of the public to reach out to the Thunder Bay Public Library board members. All their contact information is on the tbpl.ca website and let them know how you feel about the services being taken away from you.
