It's good to see you Pete. It's good to be back.
Hey, I don't know if you caught Trump's rally the other night
We were there actually and Trump was like drooling over John Husted
He was like, you know, I don't check out men's bodies very often
But when I do he's like his ass he's like his hands are big
He's he's made of steel like my question
to you is like what is Trump doing here?
And why is he kind of leaning into that side? I have no idea
it is a strange thing to watch
but i mean to me it's it's anything but what matters right so
whether he's talking about like a republican candidate's body
or whether he's talking about
you know the arch or whatever crazy thing he's on to it's everything
but the stuff that people
want the president to be talking about right like where
are you on gas prices like where are you on
uh getting us out of the war right obviously you don't want
to talk about that so it's just
the craziest ---- he can think of you don't think
that he thinks like John Husted i mean he isn't
he's a good looking guy do you he's trying
to lean into that side of John Husted because he
thinks that's like maybe voters are attracted
to that maybe i i don't i don't know maybe he's
trying to extrapolate the the the way he you know
i mean we see what's going on in in the way he
staffs the white house right it seems to be like
as much about looks as it is about uh the kind of
job anybody can do it's a strange thing to watch why
though why does he staff the white house is
you know look let me just put it this way i can't relate
to that do you feel like though that sex
appeal is becoming a bigger part of politics
because it's not just republicans it's like
Democrats are posting videos
of them working out lifting weights putting a nice aesthetic
on their Instagram. What do you think? Yeah, I guess I gotta hit
the gym more. Geez, uh, you know I don't
know about that. It's like maybe it probably always
was right. This is probably a thing in the
days of JFK. Who knows? Maybe the 19th century, like those mutton chops
and handlebar mustaches was
like, you know, straight up sex appeal by the, uh
by the standards of the day, um, like politics you
know like it or or not like image is a really big part
of the whole thing. Yeah, right. Um, but I still
think more than anything it's not about how
a candidate looks, it's not about how, it's not
anything about a candidate, it's about, it's about
people. It's like, what are you going to do to make
my life better and if you got something
to say about that then you have my attention but
get most voters, but clearly image matters
and like someone who I feel like really leans into
that is Pete Hegseth, who I know you're
not the biggest fan of but he's clearly leaning into this
masculinity aesthetic for a reason
because there are a certain portion of Americans who want to
feel like, yeah, if you mess with us we're gonna kick your ass, yeah
but if you're gonna try to do
that, if you're gonna try to like lean into the masculinity
then, then it's really important not
to make an ass of yourself and when you do that especially
when you're in charge of the military
like that doesn't just make you look silly it diminishes
the entire country diminishes the
credibility of the military itself look i i think
a real warrior knows the difference between like
luster and strength the difference between like show
and reality and whatever he's doing look
he's a tv guy who's been put in charge of the Department of Defense
and it shows he's like tv
first right instead
of security first like military first military families first what you would
would want and expect uh him to be doing
so i just i don't know worst secretary pete ever as far as
i'm not but i'm not biased it
also seems like republicans are trying to strip like democrats
of masculinity in that like calling james talarico
or inferring that he's gay as like a you shouldn't
vote for him if that's how like what do you make
of that like they're republicans are like trying
to be the most masculine party while
also stripping democrats of that look i i think it's a
show of weakness on their part right like you don't have
to resort to that kind of bullshit if you
you are in a commanding position of strength,
but they're in terrible shape politically.
People are pissed about the direction of the country.
And so they got to think up something,
anything else to try to make this about
other than kind of what's actually happening in our lives.
Now they've always done this kind of thing, you know,
usually it falls flat.
I think it's falling flat right now.
I don't think the majority of Texans
are impressed with that stuff, but it's what they do.
