The conversation covers the strategic importance of the Bab al-Mandab Strait, the potential for U.S. military retaliation against Iranian-backed proxies, the impact of global instability on oil prices, and the monitoring of Iranian military sites.
All right, Sandra, live look at the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas,
where President Trump will be appearing in a moment. She'll take a tour, then he'll give remarks.
As those remarks come, right as another front appears to be opening in the Middle East with
Houthi militants capturing key areas in Yemen along the Bab al-Mandab Strait, the waterway,
one of the most critical for global shipping, connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and
then the Indian Ocean. Let's bring in retired Navy captain and former Pentagon official Brent
So the Houthis messing around again, I would imagine, at the behest of Iran. They've activated
their proxies over there in Yemen and the Red Sea. Does this mean the United States is going
to have to confront the Houthis again and as well? I don't think we ever stopped confronting them
when they started shooting at shipping in the Red Sea in late 2023. But whether or not they're going
to get another swing at the military hammer like they did earlier on in President Trump's
administration, I think that's probably going to be a foregone conclusion if they attack shipping,
certainly if they take a shot at a U.S. warship that's nearby. Yeah, well, the Iranians are
willing to the price of shooting at U.S. warships. And Iran continues its belligerence, keeps aiming
for their ships. What do you think would happen if a missile actually got through and hit one of
our vessels? Well, there's a lot going on, a lot of commentary about potential assistance to the
Iranians to improve their targeting, but also to improve the ability of weapons they already have
to more effectively overcome the defenses on our U.S. warships. And this is coming from China and
Russia? That's the suspicions. If they get a shot and they get a hit, we'll know, we'll be able to
see by how it performs and also what debris is there, who provided that material support. But
what do you think the response would be? I mean, just for shooting at our ships, we're taking out
their tankers. I imagine that we probably go a lot further than that if they hit one.
That absolutely. So more of their ships, there's already 68 that have met Davy Jones's locker at
the bottom of the ocean. More than that that have been damaged and put out of service. There's not
much more to actually hit than that. So going after the command and control, going after the
infrastructure that's supporting these things. So more than just pinprick strikes. So as all of this
escalation ramps up, oil is now hitting $100 a barrel again, as we're within 50 days of the
midterm elections. I'm sure that that's causing some consternation for the president, though he
doesn't seem to be too affected by it. No, I don't think the metric of the gas prices is the one that
we should be really focusing on. There's a lot of oil on the market. A lot of this price goes up
quickly and it goes down very quickly. It feels like speculation. The trends also with seasonal
prices, supply and demand also are going in the right way. If we're looking at pressures on the
election, the key thing is getting more oil on market and making sure there's enough of it
getting to the customers. We are connected into the global marketplace. So the prices are pumped
will go up if China's demand goes up. So the president has told us in recent days that Space
Force is looking at all of this under a microscope. They're watching everything going on in the
Strait of Hormuz. They're also watching what's happening inland. And I guess they've noticed
some action at Pickaxe Mountain, which which prompted the president to say this yesterday.
Pickaxe Mountain, another nice place. We may have to give him a shot there, too, because somebody
said there was a little movement at the site. We noticed there's a little activity at Pickaxe.
I would advise Iran not to get cute because we will have to hit them very hard. We have no choice,
right? Now, I mean, we seem to know exactly what's going on at Pickaxe Mountain. The unfortunate
thing is it's a very high mountain and those tunnels are buried very deep. And can we really
do anything about it? There's a couple of things. One, this is probably not the only site and it's
always the one that you don't know about to be worried about. But this site, Pickaxe Mountain,
the president's talking about, it's been on the radar for quite a while. It's being watched.
Obviously, human intelligence, you have to assume, is also providing some hearsay about what's going
on. But you don't have to burrow all the way down to destroy what's inside. You can also take out
the entrances and also the air vents so that no one can get in there. And if they're in there,
they're going to die a death of asphyxiation. But they could always dig it out. They've
proven that they're pretty intent about doing that. All right, we'll go away.
Frank, good to see you. Thanks for dropping by. Appreciate it.
