big one of these wait a second wait a second wait a second is it
so lame you're gonna make

yeah okay it's like hot ones right now it's like yeah
this is like seven but it's not actually
a hot bro it's not that i don't
do heat clearly i know i'm sorry i didn't mean to do this no no
oh you want some Gatorade right you got some
white you want some Gatorade right i have a bunch of
the car no no no no get this man
a gatorade zero here all right thank you it's an emergency
all right boy no no no no tell me how good
that is you're fountaining your water out of respect
oh you're okay i respect
that i would have found me enjoy enjoy all right we're all doing that
since we're passing around here oh wow there you go we've shared
a Gatorade with Abdul not bad
not bad is this not the flavor that's not good right
and then here's the thing you water found
and if you were to spill on yourself you wouldn't
be all right you know what i was like it's the
white flavor right if you had the orange flavor
or the blue flavor you spill all over yourself
there's a problem i actually really needed that so how
are you doing sir how are you doing i'm good
what's your name Andrew very nice
to meet you you too hey appreciate you i got you hey thank you
appreciate you thank you
so much thank you for that because actually that helped a lot so now
we're getting to now here's the interview time
so we've been here now for a few hours we
went to Kalamazoo and we pulled one person first
person we met i said Syed or Rogers they said
the thing about Syed is i don't think he's going
to be as progressive as he says he's going to be
I said, what do you mean?
They said, well, due to his religious beliefs,
I don't think he's going to be as progressive as he says.
What do you think about that?
Hearing that from 100% of the people that we pull.
Look, I'll tell you this.
It is because of my religious beliefs that I need an America
where we believe in and protect the Constitution at all costs.
I don't want the federal government,
and certainly not the crazies like Ted Cruz,
using the federal government to tell us what we can do with our lives.
Can you live your way?
I live my way.
He lives his way, right?
That's the beauty of this country.
So I believe in rights.
Rights are rights are rights are rights.
And I want everybody to be able to live their best life
simply as a function of who they are in a country
where the federal government doesn't get used against you.
If the party in power thinks that the way that you live your life
is somehow less than the way that somebody
in power chooses to live their life.
And, you know, I choose to put my face on the ground 34 times a day.
That's a choice that I make and I love the right to make,
which means that why would
I ever allow this government to take that right away from me?
Just like I would never allow the government
to take away the right for somebody to love
who they love, to be who they are, you know,
to make choices and live their life as they
are, you know what I mean?
And so I'd say it's because of that, right,
that I believe in the kind of America where
everybody has their rights.
The other thing I'll tell you is that like the notion,
the things that bring us together are the things that we all need.
We all need a good job and not to be told that we can't have a job
because of the color of our skin,
how we pray, who we love, how we identify.
We all need a home. We all need health care.
We all need to breathe clean air and drink clean water.
Like those are the things that all of us need.
Doesn't matter who you are. Doesn't matter where you live.
You need those things. I'm trying to focus
on a government that stops discriminating against us
and provides those basic things so we can all participate.
can i ask you this like politics aside yeah
i heard trump call you muhammad again today
and you know it is my middle name you know what it
means what does it mean it means the praised
one here's the funny thing about
the you know what abdul means what's that servant so he took
me from servant to the praised one he thinks he's doing me
a disservice look i mean he's calling you
muhammad for a reason and we all know
and when i watch certain content they're calling you Al-Sayyid
that they're doing this thing right politics aside how does
that like make you feel because
like it hurts me when i hear that like
and so how does it make you feel you probably not never had
to hear that very often i've been in my whole life i've
been 42 years i turned turned 42 at the end
of this month been 42 years of this right anybody
who's ever been discriminated against knows that
there are a few people who speak very loudly
and look i stand on the shoulders of giants like you
You know what they did to President Obama
when he ran in 2008?
Same stuff they're doing to me, right?
Barack Hussein Obama, they accentuated his middle name.
And you know, here's the thing about it.
Like I get an opportunity to do this with a level of grace
that I hope opens the door for the next person.
Just like President Obama opened the door for me.
So look, I get it, I understand.
How does it make you feel?
It makes me feel determined to build a bigger America.
That's how it makes me feel.
Does it make you, how you're feeling
to make you motivated?
Here's the thing, this is not new to me.
See what I'm saying?
Like this is not new.
Yeah.
I understand that too often,
this is how a few small people want to behave,
to try to distract all the rest of us
from what's really at stake.
And I know what's at stake.
It just seems like the White House right now
and Republicans are making you persona non grata.
And like the other day, I heard Katie Zakaria,
she's new White House press secretary,
she's calling you radical
and that's a new spokesperson for the White House.
What do you think about that?
I don't think about that.
It doesn't bother me.
My conversations with the 10 million people in the state,
They're the folks that I'm focused on.
They're the folks who get to decide
who their next US Senator is.
And I know Michiganders are open-hearted and big-minded
and they're bigger than Katie Zakaria.
And also her name is Zakaria.
It's an Arabic name.
Oh, really?
Yeah. Wow.
Isn't that rich?
Did you catch any of her opening statements
or her first press conference the other day?
I heard it didn't go well.
I hope she improves at the job.
Last thing, you know, we've talked all about health.
You know, you work out clearly.
You got a six pack here?
Like-
Not since I've been running for office.
