What the US Space Force Found in a 50 Year Old Soviet Orbit

The declassified files, orbital secrets and Cold-War space stories this video only scratched — collected in the Spacialize Field Archive.

For fifty-three years, the most advanced object-tracking network on Earth had a Soviet spacecraft in its files under one word: debris. It was wrong.

This is the story of Kosmos 482 — a Venus lander built to survive the hottest planet in the solar system, stranded in orbit around Earth after a failed 1972 launch, deliberately cut loose by the people who built it, and catalogued as junk for three decades. When it finally fell in May 2025, three space agencies gave three different answers for where it came down, and to this day nobody can prove which one is right.

We trace the whole case: the scorched titanium spheres that dropped into a New Zealand field in 1972, the astronomer who realised the catalog was describing the wrong thing, the declassified memo that rewrote what actually happened up there, and a reentry that the world's best trackers could not agree on.
