Teike was born as the son of a master blacksmith in Altdamm near Szczecin. At the age of 14 he joined the city bandmaster of Wollin, Paul Böttcher, where he learned to play various wind instruments and performed in Böttcher's ensemble for four years, including in the seaside resort of Międzyzdroje. From 1883 he became oboist in the grenadier regiment "König Karl" (5th Württemberg) No. 123 in Ulm, where he composed his first marches, of which Alte Kameraden is the best known. After the end of his military service, he was first an employee of the city police of Ulm, then after 1895 a police officer in Potsdam. No longer fit for police service due to illness, he became a civil servant (district office assistant) in Landsberg an der Warthe in 1909. In addition to the march Alte Kameraden (Old Comrades), he composed more than 100 pieces of music, including the marches In Treue fest, Graf Zeppelin and Treue um Treue, as well as a number of dances.
His initial fee for old comrades was 20 marks and "a goose". The assignment of the rights earned him 50 marks. The fees for the sale of his other works were similar, so that he was unable to achieve prosperity despite his musical work and was buried in a pauper's grave after his death in 1922.
Since 2007, a memorial plaque has been placed on the former house in today's Gorzów Wielkopolski, commemorating the composer.
