Russian occupiers attempted two simultaneous offensives to encircle the Defense Forces in the areas of Druzhkivka and Dobropillia. However, Ukrainian defenders counterattacked in these areas, thwarting Russia's plans. This was reported by the 1st Azov Corps of the National Guard, which, along with other units, carried out this operation.
As Lev "Khorus," commander of the 12th Azov Brigade, noted, the military's first task was to isolate the Russians with firepower to prevent their further advance. They also needed to create favorable conditions for the Defense Forces' assault groups. The operation reportedly began in early August 2026.
"During assault operations, if we detected an enemy and found it difficult to clear them, if they were in cover, or if we were at risk of sustaining casualties or wounding soldiers, we used our resources. The 12th Brigade used both FPV systems and bombers. The response was swift, and we tried to quickly resolve the situation so that the guys wouldn't be harmed and could consolidate their position where they had detected the enemy," said Sergei "Zamok," commander of the Shkval Battalion. At the same time, the commander of the 1st special group of the OZSP "Tuman", call sign "Franik", noted that difficulties in carrying out the operation arose, in particular, due to the large amount of "greenery" in this area.
"The difficulty of the mission was due to the enemy's atypical movements. The unit assessed the mission as extremely challenging due to the complex evacuation process. If we receive a heavy 300, then evacuating the 300 will be extremely difficult due to the density of enemy drones and large open areas. All this must be done very covertly and with careful route planning," said "Franik."
Despite this, as Horus noted, the operation was successful. This forced the Russian Federation to seek alternative routes and exploit vulnerabilities in the brigade's combat formations in the area. "Accordingly, this means additional time, additional losses on the enemy's side, and another delay in the capture of the Donetsk region in accordance with the plans and results of the 'special military operation,'" Horus added. As a reminder, analysts from the Institute for the Study of War previously reported that Russia's claims of encircling Dobropillia in the Donetsk region were wishful thinking. The experts emphasized that there is no evidence of such success on the part of the occupiers.
Meanwhile, DeepState analysts report successes for the Defense Forces in two areas at once – Kupiansk and Dobropillya. In the Donetsk region, according to experts, Ukrainian troops carried out a clearing operation near the village of Toretsk.
