Neonatal Hypotension: Why Is a Baby’s Blood Pressure Low?
Why does a newborn have low blood pressure, and what does that actually mean for tissue perfusion?
In this video, Dr. Tala, a board-certified neonatologist, breaks down the physiology behind neonatal hypotension and explains why blood pressure is only one piece of the puzzle when assessing oxygen delivery to a baby’s tissues.
You’ll learn how cardiac output, systemic vascular resistance, hemoglobin, and oxygen saturation all contribute to oxygen delivery, and why a low blood pressure does not always mean that a baby has inadequate tissue perfusion.
