Doctor Reviews: Metabolic Bone Disease of Prematurity | Part 1

Metabolic bone disease of prematurity (Osteopenia or Rickets of Prematurity) can be confusing; calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D, PTH, magnesium, bone mineralization, and multiple lab values all play a role.
In this video, Dr. Tala breaks down metabolic bone disease of prematurity in a simple, clinically focused way, explaining what causes it, which premature infants are most at risk, and how calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D, PTH, and magnesium work together.
This is Part 1. In the next video, we'll cover the diagnosis and management of metabolic bone disease of prematurity.

'Osteopenia of Prematurity' or 'Rickets of Prematurity' or Metabolic Bone Disease all refer to the same process: premature babies developing weak bones because it's so hard to feed a baby enough calcium and phosphorous. Watch this video to learn about the risk factors, the causes and the general incidence of MBD.
