Oklahoma DL Jayden Jackson — New Mexico Week
Sep 15, 2026
You know, we could have definitely played better.
We all know that.
That goes up and down the whole entire defense.
You know, just the little things, fundamentals.
You know, just doing too much at the end of the day.
We should just stick to the basics.
So trying to do too much causes you to lose fundamentals sometimes?
Yeah, pretty much.
Yeah, we've seen it.
You know, just doing our job.
I keep saying the little things because that is what we lacked at the end of the day.
You know, we've got to be better.
And we've all seen it.
What was today like at practice for you guys?
You know, it's another Monday.
You know, we've got to move on to the next team, New Mexico.
You know, they're not feeling sorry for us.
We've got to come back in, you know, have that same mentality.
Flip the next page.
They just blew out both of their teams they played.
You know, they're really good offense, really good defense.
So it's going to be another challenge.
How's the depth going in the interior defensive line with you guys?
You and David haven't played more than you did last year.
The depth is really good.
You know, we have a lot of guys that have been in the playbook, been consistently grinding.
They know what to do.
I trust them with everything.
You know, Stone trusts them with everything.
Bates trusts them with everything.
They can go up and down the board.
So, you know, depth is pretty good around that area.
You know, we had some new guys come in, Braxton.
I'm excited to see what he can do.
You know, Danny's been flashing here and there.
So, you know, we have a lot of guys that are hungry.
Did you get frustrated?
You look like you were getting a little frustrated during the game.
Did you feel like, I guess, things were missing, players were missing tackles
or just things were happening with everyone?
I guess exactly the way you guys planned it.
Yeah, you know, that's how football's going to go.
You know, I may be frustrated, but, you know, I've got to flip it.
Next page, next play, you know, it's got to move fast.
Something bad happens, you know, we've got to move on from it quick.
You know, I was mainly frustrated with myself, you know,
doing the wrong thing, being in the wrong gap.
You know, we've got to be better in that show.
Jayden, you mentioned Danny a second ago.
Just how impressive has it been that he could come in the middle of fall
and actually playing a lot of snaps for you guys and trying to help the cause?
It's impressive.
You know, you guys don't see his work,
what he does outside of, you know, what everyone sees publicly.
He's in there with Bates every single day.
Him and Braxton are trying to get, you know, on the groove as quick as they can.
You know, he's learning the playbook in and out.
And, you know, like I said, the depth area, there's no problem there.
Just guys getting in the playbook as fast as they can, getting that trust.
When it comes to someone like Danny,
does it help that he has a lot of SEC experience under his belt?
Oh, yeah.
You know, he recognizes some blocks here and there.
He can recognize formations.
Like, it's nothing new.
It's really just a scheme.
We know how BP's scheme is.
You know, it's pretty exotic.
It's pretty different.
So, you know, him getting there, I'd say that's the biggest thing, you know,
that he's having to, you know, having a problem with kind of, you know.
But he's in the playbook as much as anyone else.
You guys pay attention to the schedule ahead.
First five games, you have three heavyweights.
You lose them all, you're in the playoffs.
Probably shot.
How do you address that?
You know, we just keep moving on.
We keep moving our head high.
You know, a loss is a loss at the end of the day,
but we've got to move on to the next opponent.
We know we're about to face, you know, hard teams coming up.
But, you know, it's a faceless, nameless opponent.
It's the same opponent every single week.
So, we're playing for a championship every single week.
Is there anything you've learned in the last couple of years
about just best ways to kind of respond after a loss or anything?
Yeah, I would say, you know, just focusing on the little details
and what, you know, we didn't do as a defense.
You know, honing in on things that we made a mess of.
You know, and that goes up and down the board, you know,
with B.B. and everyone else.
Just emphasizing the things that we did do wrong so we don't do it again.
So, is that more preparation on your part?
More preparation on us, I'd say.
You know, just preparing, you know, what we didn't do
because, you know, that's a lot of preparation, what we didn't do.
Fixing that and, you know, moving forward, how can we be better?
How can we put our next foot down?
How can we just keep moving forward?
