Oklahoma RB Lloyd Avant — New Mexico Week
1 Video View·Sep 15, 2026
What's kind of your process going about resetting after a tough game?
Just going over, watching the film, knowing the mistakes that we made,
correcting them, and just moving on.
We have a great opponent coming up this week, so
we're just gonna turn the page, just keep moving on.
Was it frustrating that the run game wasn't able to get involved more?
You guys didn't get as many carries as you had the week before.
I'd say it wasn't frustrating.
Coach wanted to put us in the best position possible.
We just had to go out there, execute the list, actively.
So just going out there and
do what coach has told us to do is just the best way to do it.
How do you feel, though, that the run game is doing?
Is it performing?
Is it up to where you guys want it to be at?
I mean, there's always room for improvement.
I mean, there's always gonna be room for improvement, so
we're always gonna keep enforcing that, trying to improve the run game.
But I mean, it's good for right now, but we're gonna keep improving.
What's Coach McCullough like, just leading that group for you guys?
He's a great leader.
He's big on details, dependable, and disciplined.
So if you meet all those three, you're gonna be great.
Is he a little more hard on you guys after a tough game?
Or how does he kind of react?
No, sir, just all about watching film, figuring out the mistakes, and
just doing it.
He's not a relaxed guy.
He's not an over-hyped guy.
He's a guy that just keeps him low.
He's just gonna let you know what you did wrong and fix it.
How do you feel your offensive line?
It's had to have some makeshift a little bit with these recent things.
How do you feel like it's doing in the run game for you?
Are you in line with what they're doing because they've had so
many moves and everything?
No, they're doing great.
They're doing a great job.
They're straining, they're being physical, and they're working together.
That's what I love about those guys.
They're a team, and they love each other.
Once they fight for the brotherhood of each other,
it's gonna be a great thing.
I love that about those guys.
What's your thoughts on New Mexico State's defense?
They're a great defense.
They play hard, they strike physical.
We're still watching film on them, but they're a great defense.
We're ready for their opponent.
What was just the vibe like at practice today of knowing that you've got plenty
of games left to play this season and
that everything you want is still in front of you?
Just coming out with the attitude that we're gonna fix everything.
It's gonna be okay.
You know who's gonna be around you through adversity.
So coming out to the game, seeing we have the adversity, and
just come out proving ourselves right.
We're gonna come out, fix the way we had wrong, and just keep going with it.
Excuse me for not knowing this, but did you guys play New Mexico last year?
No, sir, I played them at Colorado State.
That's what I mean.
Yes, sir.
What did you see?
That was their breakout year.
What did you see from New Mexico that made them such a-
Just a bunch of guys that are willing to fight all four quarters.
They're a physical team.
They like flying around to the ball.
Just a great defense that likes to get to the ball, make turnovers.
Lloyd, did you feel like you were in rhythm in the Michigan game?
Or were you a guy, whether or not you were getting carries, but
just getting on the field, did you feel like you were in rhythm?
Or are you a guy that just needs more carries to find that rhythm in game?
Yes, sir, I was in rhythm.
Coach put me in the best position possible.
So when he was going out there putting the plays in, I was just in rhythm,
doing whatever I was asked to do, and just doing that 100% of my capability.
You played with Rocky at Colorado State.
Is it pretty cool to see what he's doing so far this year?
Yes, sir, it's pretty cool.
But I mean, I see this every day in practice with Rocky.
He's a consistent guy.
He did this at Colorado State.
He does it here.
He's a practice player.
He does everything in practice.
So whatever I see in practice, he does in the game, and
that's just to consist of it.
Lloyd, obviously, it's been two days.
But how have you seen John bounce back the last couple of days?
Obviously, it was a tough day for him.
I mean, he keeps his head up.
He's the leader of the team.
I mean, when we came in the locker room right after the game,
his head was high.
Thinking that, you probably would see a player with his head down.
But no, he was high.
Make sure the team was up, and make sure we had a level head.
Make sure we keep going throughout the season.
Thanks, Lloyd.
