Oklahoma offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle speaks after the Sooners' 23-15 win over Mississippi State.
Oct 25, 2026
He managed it really well.
He responded from a week ago, played his butt off,
made some unbelievable chokes today, you guys.
If y'all knew what happened, he made some awesome mental plays today,
and he did some really good things, you know.
Again, wasn't perfect,
and I don't think anybody's ever asked him to be perfect,
and he just went out there and played his butt off, did his job,
managed the game, and I'm really proud of him, really proud of him.
And then when John's had some of those late game mistakes,
how good was it to see him on that final
drive convert those two third downs
to really ice the game?
It was huge.
He was in the moment, understood the moment, and delivered.
So practice execution is game reality.
And I can't tell you how many times we worked four minutes.
And he went out there, he understood the situation, and executed.
What's that say about the trust you have in John?
Did he throw the ball down those two third downs?
Did you think about running it for that last one?
Yeah, no, I thought about just winning the game.
Let's end it right there.
Just off of a film study, just knowing how aggressive that D.C. can be
in certain situations, and they do an unbelievable job of this too,
but how aggressive that he can be.
Just gave an option for John to get
the ball to one of our best players,
and if it wasn't there, get down to keep the clock running.
And he made the play, him and Rock made the play.
Great protection, too.
Man, I know you'd like to finish more of those drives and touchdowns.
But just what do you think of the offense overall today?
Yeah, a lot of the, I'm very proud of our guys.
They played their butt off.
They keep on battling, man.
They played their butt off.
Running backs ran hard and downhill.
But a lot of the same as last week, guys.
We've got to put the ball in the end zone.
We have to.
It didn't even have to come to that four minute drive.
The guys were ready for the moment and they executed that, but
we've got to finish with the ball in the end zone.
And again, I love Tate.
I want Tate to kick PATs, not field goals, so we gotta be better.
It looks like John played great, but he didn't really pull in.
In other words, he was still aggressive during
a couple of unorthodox plays,
the shotgun pass and those kinds of things.
But encouraging to see him play sort of the way he hasn't passed and
then still produced.
He just looked comfortable,
he looked like the player that I know he is.
He handled the game like the quarterback I know he is.
And again, everybody around him is helping us
and just making great plays.
Doing their job, a lot of stuff turned into today,
guys just doing their job.
And then whenever things sputtered off,
maybe we weren't doing our job too great.
But I'm, again, just proud of Jordan.
Coach, to get Michael Fasucci back today
and for him to play the way he did,
especially at a time where you have
so many other guys banged up on the offensive line,
how good was that to see?
I think it speaks to the investment
that Michael Fasucci has in his teammates
and in this program.
Guys, I know he kind of played during Utah,
but he wasn't really healthy.
He hadn't really done much the last seven, eight weeks, if you would.
I just think it speaks to his investment of how he came out
and how he played today.
Was it perfect?
Absolutely not.
Did he play his butt off and did he do some incredible things?
You bet.
And, again, it means a lot to this offense.
It means a lot to this team.
It means a lot to that offensive line.
I'm in awe of that kid every day.
He gets tangled involved in a lot of good ways.
What was the key to that?
Shoot, I don't know.
Just give him the ball, you know.
Wanted to start that early.
Ran the reverse to him on play one.
Just wanted to get him in the game immediately.
he's a special player and the more
and more you can get him involved the more and more you can
get him into the game the better
and better he plays like a lot of really good players the more
the more he gets into it the better he plays
and i thought that showed today so i think the
second touchdown was 195 yards today what
was important we attribute most of that to
a run game as us being back chemistry
on the offensive line running backs getting healthy
what do you think i'm sure it's all of the above
but at the end of the day i i mean y'all watch
the game those guys came out
and um our guys had it things up our runners ran hard uh they were
tough to tackle and i think that was a lot that a lot
that went into it if i'm being honest with
you but um sure there's probably a lot of things
but i think it was the main things that y'all saw
just in between the lines today Ben John
was a big part of that too is that the most decisive
he's run the football this year yeah i thought
so you know i actually do i thought he did a good
job of getting downhill. I think he made the wrong read on one.
So get on to him about that
tomorrow. But didn't make the wrong read a lot.
And yeah, but he got his foot down, went north
and south. Thought he should have scored on that one short yardage one.
I got to go back and watch
it. I don't know why. I thought it had
the potential to be a touchdown. But that's not on
him. I just run it and play it through my head.
But yeah. And were you surprised they didn't review
the pass to Robbie where it looked like
you might have had the touchdown and
kind of knocked loose at the end there.
Don't even give them that.
Don't even put them in the situation for that to be reviewable.
Just, you know, I ain't mad at them.
Just hold on to the ball.
You know, just finish the whole play.
Finish the catch.
You know, always assume that somebody's coming somewhere.
But I ain't mad at them.
