We just got back to the track about 15 minutes ago. Rushing to get the car together and ready
for what's going to be qualifier one. We didn't know if we got more testing today. When we left
last night the run order put us at the very end which would have given us a couple more hours
minimum. Well I guess sometime this morning they changed it. Thankfully Cameron stayed here. Heard
the announcement. Called us and said you guys are going to be up at nine and this was at 7 45. We
had a 30 minute drive. So we rushed here getting ready. Jamie already sent us a tune-up. Not sure
exactly what changed. We'll figure that out here in a minute. We're going to load this tune-up in
and go up for our first ever qualifier with Eagle. Hopefully we can do good. Hopefully. Man I was
really wanting breakfast this morning too. We're gonna have to wait till after Q1. The way things
have been going we should have a little bit of time. I think I called this morning was like I
thought the call this morning was for like hey guys where you want to go to breakfast. Yeah exactly.
You got to get up there calling it. Yeah hey you got to be here right now. So right now we're
living off of a half a bottle of water and four ibuprofen. So yeah it's a rough one. We're gonna
have to eat after Q1. Yeah brunch. Yeah. All right well. That's not good. This one hurts but we got
to go up there in five minutes. Oh no. Last night we found a crack in the cow hood. Yeah. Things
vibrate a lot. That's a break. I mean the cow hood just got done. These front ends are rigid
but the vibration is it's tough and we don't want to come apart anymore so we've got to tape it.
This hurts. Yeah. Do you think there's a warranty on that? Nah this is racing. Yeah. There's no
warranty. Let's see this crack real fast. Oh it's starting to split. Like in the middle.
See you can see right here look. It's like in between like layers or something here.
That's crazy. It is what it is but we don't want to get worse. Oh. We'll put some custom
racing straps on it. Oh. Oh no. That's tough. First piece of duct tape and over the last one.
We went from zip ties to duct tape huh. Jamie just came over and looked at everything. Talked to us.
He said the run last night was gonna be a good run. So he didn't change a whole lot. Some fueling
and stuff like that. But he didn't want to change it. Just go down Q1. Get something on the board
and then maybe change the next pass. But the numbers he told me that it should have ran if
went all the way down. Pretty exciting numbers. So if we can run that. It will happen. So we'll see.
We'll see. We're about to find out if it works or not. Yeah. Alright guys so I don't know if we
have a transmission issue or something. It seemed like the tranny had an issue there. They said it
thought it had a dead hole but I see smoke over here from the transmission or something. It smells
like transmission. So I don't know if we have an issue with that. Thank you bro. But uh we'll get
back to the trailer and look at that and see what that was. But definitely I think something to do
with the transmission. We had the torque converter out. Everything looked good when we had it out but
definitely gonna check when we get back and see what's going on.
Boy said the car didn't run very well. So we'll see what we got. Hey we went down bud.
I think it's probably on a track control really bad. Definitely lost a bunch of mile an hour
horsepower. But he went down. Yeah he went down. Let's get it back and see what happens.
I just know the last time we ran a breech that smelled like that. I thought it was the brakes.
It's like a tranny smoke or something. It's smoke. Sounds like the transmission. Transmissions ain't
motioning. It's not transmitting to the back. That's what we got going on. Well that's no good.
We made it. So we know we got a transmission issue and I think it's been getting worse. Troy
said he thought it might have been brakes transmission but now it's getting worse.
Pretty obvious the transmission's just gone. Yeah no it stinks and those lines were like so
flexible because it's so freaking hot. Yeah the tranny's not happy but neither was the engine.
You guys probably see that it's spitting out of the passenger side a little bit going down the
racetrack and there's the difference between a cylinder that is not firing at all for the whole
pass and one that is but kind of making up for the other one that's not firing. So we've already
traced it back down to the number four spark plug wire at some point has been broken. Yeah. And
it just does not click in anymore. Like there's nothing there. Do we have spare plug wires? Oh
heck yeah. We just got to go and trim them so they're not hanging out.
Jamie said we got to check the coil because they're not firing the plug. It'll travel back
down the coil and actually hurt it. So we can test it in a pit so to make sure it's working right.
Yeah they saw a couple videos prior we did this because they were worried about another
plug not firing and we just kind of hold it here on the chassis and the fuel tech has an
output tester and then see if she sparks. All right so we went one flat. We still went 394.
We made it down just a handful of cars that did make it down and we got a non-firing cylinder and
a non-transmitting transmission. Right and but but we did get here early as early as we can be
and Troy went 20 on the tree. Yeah 26 on a tree. Yeah he finally got a couple hours of rest I
think is what happened. Yeah. Got Jamie over here on a laptop. Not doing a very good job right now.
I don't think this one was on you. So we took the transmission out like you guys saw. We took
it over to the guys at RPM. They got that thing apart and they said it looks brand new. Nothing
wrong with the transmission. Beating our heads against the wall. Can't figure out what it is.
Which even worse. I'd rather got over there and said Angel D whatever to fix this thing because
then we would have known there was a problem right. Well the last thing we decided. Oh yeah look at that.
Last thing we decided to check. So the drive shaft u-joint started to go bad. So what happens is
see this u-joint's good right here. This gives you this way. But you have you know u-joint
goes both ways that we have three-dimensional uh radius basically of the of the whole
yoke. So if the car moves anything moves. So uh this way it's locked up. Oh yeah she's she's real
close. And you can see here it's coming out. So originally the car when the boys pulled it out
this fell down on the on the you know on this side and they thought it was okay. We're looking
at the training because we've seen smoke from the transmission actually. So what was happening was
the drive shaft was smoking from the yoke and the and the smoke was coming out the tunnel and into
the car. It really wasn't from the transmission. Only thing we had to see from this was the video.
Which we really need to we're going to take we're going to move the camera. The camera that faces
out forward in the car. We're going to move it back towards the main hoop. So if we catch all
the inside of the car and the windshield of the car looking out. So you guys can see more. So we
can use this stuff to actually help. So actually filming for the channel today actually helped
aid in fixing the car. Yeah. There's no other reason. If not we wouldn't have video in there.
We thought Troy was just exaggerating. Yeah.
Lift in a little bit but make sure you know. Yeah. So now doing what I do now. I spoke a little bit
in the car and when everything happened you know I'm coming through there. I've got my hand on the
shifter because Tyler's last one with the tracks. It's all you're not getting clean neutral. So now
I got like I'll watch. I'm gonna put it in clean neutral for you. Make sure yeah. Make sure. So we
go through. I put it neutral. The smoke comes out and I'm just like I'm looking like what the
heck is that truck? Yeah. And I smelled a little something on our 384 run for Braketon. I just
thought it was the brakes. When I went through the tracks I kind of got on the brakes. I'm like oh
it's just a little faint smell. Like oh it's the brakes. Now we know what it was. It's this. So
well this is the car. With radials they get a lot of separation. So there's a lot of angles there.
And this right here. I'm not going to say one more run. It would have come apart. Yeah. This
would have taken a tunnel out. A little frame rail stuff where it tabs off the chassis. I have.
This is very very dangerous and I'm glad we found this. If they would have said hey this is wrong
with the training. That's what happened. Yeah. And we stuck this back in there and didn't see that.
Could have been bad. So I'm really glad we caught that. Yeah. Yeah. I've had one of these
completely break before. And what it does is basically it'll break this all off. Driveshaft
is hooked to the rear and it's flopping everywhere. That happened to me at 190 miles an hour. Yeah.
And it literally beat the tunnel off the frame rails. The transmission. We didn't have a tie
belt. We had to cast. I'm going to turn the transmission sideways. And when I got out of
the car. You know my feet are like this. The huge one is laying under my legs. So like this can
literally shoot the cap off of this. You shoot it through metal and it hits you in the leg. And
trap roll will tear your leg up. It's like you're in you know war or something. I've seen some people
getting really hurt from those. Yeah. It's not good. Yeah. I'm glad that we found this. You know.
That could have been bad. Yeah. Performance is one thing but safety is another. And that could
have been really bad. But thank gosh that I told Josh take me down there. Let's go to the other
shop. And we got to find our spare driveshaft. So we brought our spare driveshaft with us there. We
did good on that one. Most of the time when you bring a spare you don't need it. But if you left
it at home we didn't need it. But this time. Yeah. We actually. We got a spare driveshaft. We don't
have a spare transmission. No. So we may have. Yeah we may have. Look at that one. The way the
transmissions cost. That may be a little. Yeah. We do have a spare driveshaft. Right.
Technically the transmissions. We don't. There's not a lot of issues. No. The transmissions are
usually really good. We were just searching for this issue in the smell and in the smoke. And
I wanted to verify. I feel a lot better now having a partner. Putting my own eyes on looking at it
and knowing now. Yeah. So that makes me more comfortable in the car for driving. I mean I
can't tell you how much better I feel finding an issue. Because a lot of times you go through stuff
and you don't mind it. Yeah. And the car ran good. No it worked good. It went down. We went 183 mile
an hour to the eighth. Seven cylinders. Seven cylinders in the other night on eight. We only
went 180. Yeah. I'm just glad the boys over there from our team. Rodney Massingale and Jesse. They're
just great people. They were able to go through this training course. Even though it's not their
transmission. Somebody else's. They went through it for us. They're just racers like us. They're
willing to help anybody. When they get to the racetrack they don't see brand. You know. Even
if it's not their product they will work on it. I mean we do the same right. Somebody had a welder
and all their stuff was broke and somebody else built the car. We'd go over and we'd weld whatever
we have to weld. So like when you come to the racetrack it's a big race family and I'm just
glad those guys do that. Part four stop what they're doing. They're having issues with their
own car. It's not even run right. They looked at our transmission before they started even diagnosing
their own car. So those guys are great. They make a lot of awesome Corvette parts. I know.
So RPM transmission makes a ton of cool stuff. Yeah. The whole cradle with the carbon shafts
and everything in the back. Like fillet third member. Like it's awesome. So all right well
let's get this drive shaft in there. One more qualifier tonight. One more huh? One more. I
think tonight. There may be some more tomorrow and then race it. It's 10 30 at night. We're
going up for Q1 at 9 a.m. It's 10 30. We're going up for Q2 and I'm not sure if we're getting one
or two more qualifiers for us. They said we're getting one more. So this one's got to count.
There's 14 cars on the class. Coming out fourth pair right lane. Right lane is good. I think we
got a good choice in the right lane but we didn't pick that. I think last night and this morning
and what we just watched in the left lane seemed to be working. Which we've already been out of
left lane. Eagle goes down the left lane no problem even though it's been a little snuggly.
Yeah. Yeah yeah. So we should be good on right lane if it's what it looks like.
We just need to make it all the way down. Under power, all cylinders with a u-joint that's still
u-joint. U-joint that's u-jointing. We got the transmissions confirmed that it's good.
The torque converters confirmed that it's good. Driver's got a clean pair of underwear. We're
ready. Nice. We also had some wiring stuff going on which we we got a lot of stuff. We have a lot
of stuff. So thankfully with the driveshaft, the transmission, all the stuff we were putting the
tranny back in. Some of the ground wires and all of the outputs for the relays were like
coming loose. So just noticed that because the ecu was acting weird on the switch. So
went through tightened all that stuff up. That could have been a really bad deal. Yeah. And
let's go out there and see what we can do. We nut and bolt this car every time that we come back
and we've been struggling with a few of the certain items that just keep coming loose.
So we're gonna have to address those as we get home and make a couple little changes for some
stuff that's you know. The doors are on the car though. Yeah. Now that you said that. Yeah.
What do you mean? We went all the way down there. I think the little double nutted gimmicks on the
side. The little guards are helping. I really think they're helping a lot. So. Right. I don't
even see any issues with like the paint or anything. No. All right. Well we gotta go.
Cars are here. Tyler's like what are y'all doing? They're going with or without us.
John. We gotta go. We gotta go bud. So we're up here. I don't know what time it is. Gotta be
getting close to midnight. And the track looks pretty good. Jamie did spice it up to the 60
so. Oh did he? Yeah. How's right lane looking? Right lane looks good. Good. I mean Tom's watching
from home. He said it's better. So. Oh is it? I'm gonna trust what Tom said. He said the right
lane looks good. About to find out. But it's spiced up to 60. I told Jamie if we could just
go a 70 anything. Yeah. That would be. I'd be fired up. Yeah. I'd be good. He said it should
go 70 no problem. We'll see. Yeah. What's racing? Dead hole on the same side. We're gonna change
some stuff. Jamie wants to change the FT spark. He wants to change the coil. He wants to change.
Injector driver. Which I think we have all that stuff. It's fair. It's super frustrating. Yeah.
No. You're at the house and you're testing nothing. Nothing like that happens when you get
to the racer. They only got three qualifiers. It left good. I was fired up. But it's like
183. Frustrating. We're gonna go back to the trailer and get it changed. Look at some stuff.
See what we got. Yeah. All right. Well yesterday didn't go great but we got some more passes and
I think we figured out what's going on with this thing. So go to CJRaceCars.com. Every five dollars
