Don and Melinda Boyer discuss the spiritual nature of prosperity, arguing that true wealth encompasses happiness and contentment rather than just financial gain. They emphasize the importance of heart condition, the biblical principle of sowing and reaping, and the belief that prosperity is an internal spiritual reality that must be manifested on earth.
Hey everyone, we want to welcome you to our podcast today. I'm your host Don Boyer,
and I'm Melinda Boyer, and we've got a show for you because we're going to be talking about
prosperity. Money, money, money. What it's all about. We're going to deep dive again on that
subject. We'll be right back. Okay, so we're coming back. We're going to talk a little bit
more about prosperity and how people, I think, have it all confused. Right. I mean, everybody
always thinks prosperity, wealth, it's money. Right. And I don't think that it's just about
money. No, it's a whole spectrum. Right? It's about happiness. It's about what are you feeling
in your heart? Are you content? And I think most people aren't content because they don't see that
in their bank account. The first thing that I think that we need to look at when we're talking
about the subject of money in the Bible is to, first of all, examine the condition of our heart.
Amen for that. Where is our heart concerning the truth of what the Bible talks about? Money.
Because a lot of people that criticize, quote, the prosperity message, they're coming from a
position in their heart of bitterness, of lack, of mad. They're mad that other people have it and
they don't. So it's very easy to criticize that. There are others that believe in it, talk about
it, preach about it, but they're doing it from a position of fear because they don't have it
either. Right. So we have to examine the condition of our heart. That's very, very important. Well,
you know, you said something very interesting about the bitterness, right? And I've told you
this story, but I don't think anybody else knows this story. So before we met, I had went to church
and I was out of work. I was living with my parents and I was very bitter. I was very mad
and I didn't have any money. Right. And I remember being in church and there was an
offering coming and I was like, all I have is change. I don't have any cash in my wallet,
you know, and all I could think of was I was so angry. And I remember just digging at the bottom
of my purse for the rest of the change that I had and saying, okay, okay, God, if you're for real,
you're going to really change my life. You are going to find me, help me find a job and bring
your angels, because they've been taught, they were talking about angels, bring your angels,
bring whatever with you and just help me find a job and maybe even help me find somebody that
I'm compatible with. He brought you a good job. It was called D.O.N.
So this was on a Wednesday night, right? Yep. And I went out Thursday and I met you.
That's right. And it changed my life forever. So when people say that, you know, I can't give God
whatever I have left, but it was at that bottom, the bottom of the bottom of the pit, right? Yeah.
And sometimes I think people are at their bottom of their pit and they won't turn to God. Yeah.
They will not turn to God and they get worse and they get worse and then they get bitter and they
get mad at God. And, you know, and sometimes I think sometimes we just got to release that
and say, okay, God, I'm giving you everything and I'm giving you my heart and I'm giving you
everything and I'm believing and I'm having faith in you that you are going to change my life.
It absolutely has been that way too. I mean, God has given us a great life. Absolutely. You know,
for the past 25 years, it has been a great, great life. Yes. You know, if we would just take
principle, let's just take principle by itself, okay? Let's take for a second God out of the
equation and we just talk about a principle. So when you look at a field and you put a farmer
there and the field is what it is, it's soil. And we ask, does God want to that field to produce
a harvest? Well, it's not up to God, it's up to that farmer. Absolutely. Because if that farmer
doesn't plant any seed, there's not going to be a harvest in that field. Well, and not only is it
just planting the seed, it's actually caring about it, right? Where's the heart at?
Exactly. You know, you got to care for it too. Yeah, you have to. Teal, you have to take care
of that. You have to water it. So we water with the word, we water with our faith. But, you know,
sometimes God, maybe not you, but he has dropped some bombs on me. And one of the bombs he dropped
on me one time, he said, when are you going to stop robbing the people? I was shocked. When am
I going to stop robbing the people? I said, Lord, I've never, I've never robbed anybody.
You know, and I referred it automatically to our ministry. I said, Lord, our ministry is debt-free,
we don't ask for offerings, we don't promote offerings, we don't take offerings, we support
nine different ministries and charities. How am I robbing the people? And that's when he took me
back to where Paul talked about it. He said, I don't desire a gift from you. He's talking now
to the church in Galatia. And he said, I'm desiring fruit on for you, on your end. That's
why I'm taking up an offering, so that you can be blessed, so that you can have a harvest,
so that you can financially increase. And he said, that's how you are robbing people,
because you never give them an opportunity to sow into your ministry. That is very true.
Yeah, yeah. If I had a wig, I would have had to straighten it out.
That is very true, and I think, you know, I'm a giver. I love to give, right? But it's really
hard for me to receive, and I think it's hard for you to receive, too. Well, yeah, the Bible talks
about giving and receiving. Yes, and I think sometimes when we're giving so much and we're
not receiving, we're not robbing ourselves. We're robbing that other person from their blessing.
Yeah, and you know, I asked the Lord about this. I said, Lord, I said, okay, then show me why
I was like that. And you know, the first thought was, okay, is it pride? Probably was some.
Yeah. Okay, it probably was some. But as I began to listen to God, He said,
you have been so wounded in the past from people talking negative about ministries
on prosperity and calling them thieves and calling them all the same. He said, that wounded you
in your heart so that you never wanted to have that reputation. Yeah. You never wanted to have
that experience of anyone accusing you in your ministry for taking money. And He said, because
of that, you put yourself in a position where you start robbing my people because you didn't
give them that opportunity. And then I realized that's true. Wow. Yeah. That's really interesting,
you know. So I want to remind everybody, you know, be sure that if somebody's giving to you,
and I see, I try to change this because one of the things that I do is all the time is I'm
constantly giving. I love to give to people. It just, it fills my heart. And you always tell me,
stop, stop opening our cupboards and showing them everything we got and then giving it all away.
Well, well, here's an interesting, here's an interesting part. One day we're at church
and during praise and worship, and I'm, you know, we're praising worship and have our eyes closed,
and she tells me, she taps me and says, hey, I feel like the Lord is telling me to give a special
offering. I said, well, okay, well, the Lord's telling you to give a special offering, you better
obey. Now, in our household, we have numerous check-ins accounts. We have our business accounts,
we have different accounts. She has her account, I have my account. So we're praising God,
and all of a sudden I open my eyes and she's writing the offering for my checking account.
I said, hey, God didn't tell me nothing about no special offering.
That's because you have to give, you know, you have to give.
I said, the next time God tells you to give a special offering, He's telling you to take it
out of your checking account, not mine. Well, I'll pay you back. Okay.
Well, at the time when I gave you $20. Oh, yeah, so I didn't know that he got into my purse
for $20, or I think it was more like $60. Well, no, you had gave me $100 to hold for you.
Oh, yes, that's true. And I said, go ahead. She was going into Home Depot, and I said, get me some
rags, they're $20, and I'll pay you back. So she comes in, she says, here's your rags. So I gave
her $20. And then she asked me, hey, where'd you get that $20 from? I said, the $100 you gave me.
She says, you took the $20 out of my money that I gave you? See, but this is the fun part of money.
Yeah, it's really interesting about how people have that perspective of what's mine and yours.
I go with my grandkids sometimes, and we sell little odds and ends, like little trinkets that
they make, like key chains or whatever. Because I want to teach them, I want to teach them how
important it is to work. And it doesn't have to be hard work. No, not labor, work.
Yeah, but I want to teach them that they don't have to work for somebody else. They can
use their mind and go out there and be an entrepreneur on themselves. When I get the
money and everything, I'll tell them, well, you know, I'll treat you. He goes, don't tell me that.
I said, why? I want to go out, I want to treat you to dinner or something. He goes, yeah, but
that sounds like it's just your money. Yeah, let's mingle.
Let's mingle the money. Let's mingle the pot.
Well, I heard one time where people had told us, you know, you got to circulate the money, right?
Yeah.
So I think about circulating the money a lot, a lot of times. And Don tells me, stop circulating
your money so much. Yeah, exactly, you know. But the truth of the matter, when it comes to
Bible prosperity, you know, the fact is that the kingdom of God is on the inside of us.
Yes. We were born again wealthy. Yes. And if you're going to have prosperity, you're going
to have to release it on this earth, just like Jesus did. We're going to have to release it.
Circulate. Yeah, we're going to have to circulate it. We're going to have to manifest it
because it's not out there, it's already in here. And as we speak it, as we sow seed,
as we meditate on it, as we see it, people get all messed up because they look at their checking
account when they should be looking at their heavenly account that's on the inside. That's
where we're drawing the prosperity is. And the people who don't believe in prosperity,
then they don't have to draw on that account. They will just sit there. They'll go to heaven
and they'll still be there for them. It just means that they didn't take advantage of here on earth
to make those withdrawals that's already inside of them. So the devil wants us to go out there
and chase money because he wants us to believe the money's out there. The money's not out there,
the money's on the inside of you. So we're about at the end of the show. What are your last comments
and thoughts? Well, you know, I just want everybody to remember, you know, remember that
the kingdom is in you. It's not on the outside. And keep that, keep that and know that the kingdom
is in us to prosper us. We already have God in us. We're designed to bring heaven here on earth. So
