Well, the South Forsyth High School football team is preparing to take on
Centennial Nights tomorrow. But before the war eagles hit the field, they're
getting ready to be crowned our high five sports team of the week, the first
of the season. So this is huge and good days. Buck Lanford isn't coming to do
the honors. Hey, buck, good morning.
Good morning to you, Lisa. And this is this crowd of students and athletes is
incredible because when it's time to be quiet and pay attention, they do that.
But when it's time to go nuts, they do that as well. And that's what time it
is. Let's bring them out the first team of the week of 20 over this program.
Two years ago, it was not in a great place and just learning from everybody
here. But really, it's about the kids and about the community. This place is
fantastic and lucky to be here. What's been the key, though? What's been the
key? What have you brought in? You know, sometimes you have to change a
culture and there have been a few seasons. And in fact, if you guys I
think if you guys you've already surpassed last year's win total in three
weeks, you win this weekend. You're tying two years win total from the
last two seasons. What is it about changing the culture? How do you do
that? I'm not concerned with wins, but I am just proud of this. I think we
created a family atmosphere and I've been proud of the kids and how they
play together. So there's no secret recipe. It's just us doing the same
thing every day. You guys are road tested to you haven't had a home game
yet this year. Looked at your schedule. You only have four home games this
season unless you host a playoff game, right? But what's that been like? I
mean, you get you road tough already and you finally get to play in front of
your hometown crowd tomorrow night. It's about time to protect this house and
bring it back home. Yeah, no doubt. A. J. Come on over here, man. All right.
One of the team captains, A. J. Shaw, senior linebacker. What's been the key
for you? You've seen this program at a lower point and you've seen it heading
in the right direction. What's been the big difference? So the biggest
difference I would say from my freshman year to now is that bringing the new
coaches has definitely changed the culture. And even compared to last year,
even our team chemistry wasn't as close as it is this year. And just the amount
of work that everybody's put in leading up to this season, I'm ready to see it
pay it off. How proud of you of yourself and of all those gentlemen
standing behind you on what you've already accomplished with much more to
come. I'm so proud of all the boys and everybody here and the amount of work
that we've put in leading up to this and just want to see the success at the
end of the season. And you've been fighting your own battle to off the
field. You want to tell us about that? Yes, sir. So I just got out of the
hospital two weeks ago from getting a bone marrow transplant because I have a
rare blood disorder and basically just it's just been a long road. And you
know, having all the boys and the coaches behind my back has been so
helpful. I was gonna ask you what's that meant to you to keep you motivated
because you wanted to get back out and put this jersey on and be a part of
this team. Whether you can participate on the field or not. Yes, sir. So I mean
having the coaches and just some amazing family behind me and amazing friends
and family and just all the people here just sending me videos and just to
bring me a bunch of stuff has just been very helpful throughout the path of
this. Incredible. Thank you. Congratulations to you. We wish you the
best. Congratulations on a fantastic start to the season. The three, you
know, that sounds good. Undefeated as we send it back, you know, to our good
day. Latin studios. Look out Centennial, right? All right. Congratulations.
Your first team of the week of 2 26. What a fantastic start. I love it.
Don't show Paul Millick in the side. He's gonna lose it. What a great time
out there at our high five sports game of the week is the Tigers versus the
Bulldogs. A daresville will take on Cedartown tomorrow. Kickoff is at 7 30
p.m. And we'll have all your game day highlights right here on Fox five.
