Everyone on this Friday, well,
a comic book villain makes his introduction and a magical
animated adventure awaits.
So it sounds like there's something for everyone. Fox's Ashley
Dvorkin is joining us now with a look at what's new in theaters
and streaming. So Ashley,
happy Friday to you as always.
It's good to have you with us today. Thank you. Happy Friday,
Elise. Great to see you.
And so much to discuss, including yet another Halloween themed option
from Hollywood now this one i tell you i love my horror movies
but i was even squeamish at times
in this but that's not a bad thing it's actually really fun
to see with an audience so we have
the DC Comics villain origin story Clayface
and now this story and it is set in Gotham in this
world with Tom Hiddleston
and it's about a movie star whose face is disfigured by a mob boss
leading him to take part in a terrifyingly transforming new experiment.
Now, again, you've got to brace yourself
if you're going in for this one,
as you can even tell from the trailer there.
But if you're looking for that kind of experience, then there you go.
I do actually recommend it.
Now, a transformed Alexander Skarsgård alongside Olivia Colman lead
the romantic fable Wicker.
Now, that's about a fisherwoman
who commissions the local basket maker to make her a husband
And it's a fairy tale which unravels as chaos
and jealousy spread throughout their small village.
This is the concept and the premise we've
been talking about since we even heard about it.
I'm sure you've seen it on TikTok or memes and all of that.
But it really is a very sweet love story.
And it has a lot of, we'll say, layers woven in.
A lot of themes explored in this.
So another recommendation.
And then look at this beautiful animation of Wildwood.
Now, this is a magical animated tale.
A young girl journeys to a creature-filled hidden forest
to rescue her younger brother.
And it just looks amazing.
Awkwafina, Jake Johnson, or Jacob Tremblay are among the voice cast.
And then Helen Mirren stars in A Talent for Murder
as crime thriller writer Patricia Highsmith.
And she's being persuaded by a young man
to pen one last installment of her Tom Ripley series.
and there's mysterious motives at play here.
I'm going to give you a little sidebar recommendation too.
I've been watching Helen Mirren in Mobland
and oh my gosh, she is just so great.
It's a diabolical role,
but you just love every delivery of every line there.
Okay, now Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams
are part of the bestseller-inspired Clara and the Sun.
This is directed by Taika Waititi
and this is about an artificial friend
who's taken into a new home
where she learns about the world
while she is also helping them learn a way to heal.
You see Amy Adams there.
And then one more, director
and star Sacha Baron Cohen reprises one of his most famous characters.
There it is, Ali G.
So Ali G, who is that character, now back after many years away,
and I'm sure that there are a lot of fans
who are very familiar with this
and can definitely expect what is in store.
So those are your theatrical options, Elyse.
Wow.
For the place, I guess, in the best way.
So there's that.
Okay, so we've got what's new in theaters.
And I've got to tell you, I zeroed in on what you said
because I know, Ashley, you enjoy a scary movie.
So for you to say that, what was it, Clayface has some moments in it,
that's saying something.
Yeah, it is.
So I will. But again, with the audience, I loved that part about it.
But there were some parts where I was like,
I even had my hands going up to almost cover my face.
Like what? What's about to happen? Oh, boy. That's a good thing.
If you're a horror movie fan, you love that. I just said that. Right.
That's the point. So that's that's
certainly good. OK, so a lot in theaters.
How about streaming options this week, Ashley? Streaming options.
We have a lot of series that are returning, so nobody wants this.
And that is with Kristen Bell and Adam Brody.
and that is back for season three and now Noah
and Joanne are moving in together and they take
the next step and they're experiencing many firsts
and there are a lot of laughs along the way and
then we also have Lupin on Netflix both of these shows
are on Netflix Lupin part four that is a
crime heist thriller and The Terminal List season two
the action packed show with Chris Pratt Elise
good options in theaters some good options uh streaming wise how about
your recommendations
because we trust you when it comes to what you're telling us
so are there any that really stick out
to you that you really recommend to us Ashley recommend
that variety since i know each of these
films is not for everybody but Clayface for the horror movie fans
and the DC Comics fans because
they're going to be really excited to see uh how it fits
into the world of Gotham and the DC
universe and comment on it whether they love it
or not and then i will also say Wicker for that
fantasy romance and Wildwood is just
so gorgeous as an animated film and i do want to put an
animated family-friendly option
in the mix too always appreciate those so i'm glad you did plus
Wicker so interesting i feel like that's one i've
been seeing a lot of buzz about just because of
of the movie but of course the the look as well the the costuming
and that certainly has folks
talking Ashley you had a chance to catch up
with the stars of uh the hit horror film Obsession so
you got to share some of the highlights
of that with us i did this indie horror hit that did so
well it was made on a reported budget of 750,000
and it went on to bank 522 million dollars
worldwide. It was this huge box office success story.
And also people just loved it and were
so floored by the performance, especially by Indie Navarrete as Nikki.
And I spoke with them
about making the film obviously on an indie budget
and just soaking up all of this and what it means
that it's part of pop culture now,
including Halloween with Halloween costumes. I'm very
excited that people are excited about Nikki,
but it's kind of cool because it's, I feel like Nikki's
no longer mine she's personified and she's her own
and i have her close to my heart in my way
i honestly never never imagined that people would
be wearing halloween costumes of Nikki and Bear
i remember when we made the One Wish Willow
my mom designed the box with me i remember
specifically being like man like if this movie
is something like this One Wish Willow could be
something that like that people could kind of buy them
or maybe like it could be a pop culture thing
like and it is like everyone's like what would
your one wish would be i saw you showing the
video i went to a happy hour with them afterwards
this event that they held and it was at Little
Tony's which is the restaurant from the film
in that booth where she says no no no i thought we
were having a nice day
and people go to this restaurant just to sit in that booth and take
a photo now the food's really good too yeah i bet they
do i mean that's something that you could be there
in person and in the middle of all that.
I can see why folks are doing that. Okay. I saw you on
TV yesterday, Ashley, you had a costume on, which was so fun.
And I, it's my first time seeing you
in costume. So that was, that was awesome.
But you sent out your 2026 Hollywood inspired Halloween
costume ideas this week. So you got to give us the top five.
Oh, it's one of my favorite things
to do each year. So I got dressed up
for our Hollywood inspired Halloween costumes. And I
actually was Nikki from Obsession
because that very much is trending you're going to see a lot
of Nikki's this year in addition it's cues from a lot of the hits
so the Odyssey you'll see a lot
of costumes a lot of wardrobe from of epic proportions
from that I think Spider-Man I
know Spider-Man's a classic but it was so big this summer
so you're going to see Spidey maybe MJ is a
couple's costume I want to see
and I'm just putting this out there Rocky and Ryland from
Project Hail Mary i think that's going to make such
an entrance at your halloween party yeah and
in addition the classics like mike myers
and Jason Voorhees from friday the 13th let's take
that a step further because this year we had crystal lake
which is pamela vorhees the prequel
series and that is a Linda Cardellini inspired costume
if you want to take your cue from that
so i feel like we're gonna those are my top five we have
a lot in there we are also minions and
k-pop demon hunters i think we're gonna see a lot
of pop culture still huge gonna be interesting to
see what the kids choose and what adults choose this year for halloween
but folks it's Ashley DeWorke
hanging with us ashley you we've gotten
our money's worth out of you today right you talked
about theater we did streaming the costumes this was a lot of fun
and we appreciate you as always
