New Details Revealed on MAJOR Texans Move...

There's been some new details revealed regarding major Texans moves as a new article has Texans fans seeing the CJ Stroud contract situation in a new light. What does this mean for our franchise quarterback as he heads into the biggest year of his NFL career and what does this mean as we are officially at the start of the 2026 NFL season. I'm excited to be here today because we got some new updates regarding the CJ Stroud contract negotiations but before we do that I got a real quick question to ask you guys. So I want to start off let's jog your memory just a little bit which I'm sure most of you still remember is still hot on a lot of your guys's minds. CJ Stroud got a contract offer apparently sometime this offseason exceeding 50 million dollars which he turned down. I want to take a look here this is the last time I'm gonna bring this up. I've brung this up literally every single day on the videos this is the last time I'm gonna bring it up I swear. CJ Stroud will now be signing an extension with the Houston Texans before the season begins per ESPN. Houston offered Stroud a contract exceeding 50 million annually but he's betting on himself to hopefully reach near 60 million dollars per year. So that was some big news coming out last week from the NFL and I've seen a lot of your guys's comments there was some people dude literally saying dude just let CJ walk it's not worth it anymore just let CJ walk. A lot of us do not want to go through another QB controversy another QB contract negotiation situation like we did in the past but we got some news yesterday coming out of Yahoo Sports via Athlon Sports. Texans QB CJ Stroud could be facing could land in a fascinating extension tier with Baker Mayfield and I know what you're thinking how in the world is CJ Stroud anywhere near Baker Mayfield or should I say how is Baker Mayfield anywhere near CJ Stroud but this article really dives deep on comparing Baker to CJ and why they're so hesitant to give CJ that contract that he wants that one exceeding 60 million dollars but right before we dive into this contract I want to take a look at a quote that came out yesterday via X this is from DJ Bien Ami this is a guy who's a reporter for the Houston Texans why CJ Stroud is confident ahead of the biggest season of his life now how he's handling the noise I focus on me I can't control social media so why would I care of course I'm human I learned if people had the opportunity to be me they would so that's some pretty pretty interesting news to kind of digest here it for one thing I can for certain say CJ Stroud is headed into the season with the chip on his shoulder he's blocking out the outside nose noise from what it seems like and he's just focusing on getting himself that contract and hopefully leading this team to a Super Bowl he wants something upwards of 60 million dollars he wants that contract the same way Lamar Jackson Josh Allen guys we look at like Patrick Mahomes he wants that kind of cheddar and a lot of people don't think he's earned it especially with his stats continuously dropping off every single season I mean this guy is a three-year vet when it comes to playoff experience we've gone to the playoffs every single year with CJ Stroud under center that's something to be really happy about here but unless he can take us to that new level there's still a lot of questions there's still a lot of questions and Yahoo Sports talks about that we're gonna dive right into it so the Houston Texans have built a team where CJ Stroud doesn't need to carry everything he has the defense to protect him now he needs the offense to elevate Will Anderson Jr. Daniil Hunter Derek Steenley Kamari Lassiter Azeel Alshier give Houston impact players at every level that changes the job for Stroud who does not need to throw 35 times every single Sunday I completely agree with that first that first part the reason why is because we talked about it yesterday this defense is the best defense in the league hands down I don't care what anybody else says this is the best defense in and I think when you have the best defense in the league obviously a strong offense compliments that but unless that offense excuse me if that offense is not top 10 it's not the worst thing in the world I think that it'll be okay CJ Stroud doesn't need to throw the ball 35 times every single Sunday I think it'll be fine he needs to rely on some of his playmakers we've boosted up that offensive line a little bit we got David Montgomery in the offseason we took him away from the Detroit Lions I know my sister and her husband are Detroit Lions fans I know you are watching this he's better with us let's be honest Naomi and we have a really exciting offense to look forward to we have a really excited offense to look forward to and I think the defense just needs to carry that heavy load for CJ Stroud I think headed into this year where he's looking for upwards of 60 million dollars a year having the best defense in the league is going to do you a lot of favors it's going to cause you not to have to put up 35 points a game or in this instance throw 35 times every Sunday I want to take a look here now at the second part of this paragraph the Baker Mayfield situation is so interesting because he is not viewed in quite the same category as the league's unquestionable 60 million dollar quarterbacks but he is much more than a quarterback a team simply plugs in and hopes to survive he has already shown he had he can take a good roster deep into the postseason and has established himself as a starter in Tampa Bay now this is where things get really really interesting Baker Mayfield is entering the final year of his three-year 100 million dollar contract and extension talks with Tampa Bay have stalled he will play 2026 without a new deal unless something changes Stroud has a much different resume than Mayfield he has won offensive rookie of the year in 2023 he's already led Houston to three straight playoff experiences like we just talked about but in the 2025 season left enough questions for the Texans to hesitate before handing him a massive extension Stroud now has the same opportunity as Mayfield and Sam Darnold had at different points prove that the talent that everyone saw earlier in your career is still the version worth paying for that's why I wanted to bring this article to light is because CJ Stroud needs to prove that after his rookie year you guys remember his rookie year I think it was around week eight or nine we were sitting here saying holy crap CJ Stroud could genuinely be the MVP in his rookie year it didn't end up happening that way but we had a lot of optimism coming into year two we were super we were one of the teams that were Super Bowl favorites heading into year two because of how great of a year CJ Stroud had because of how great he was in his but since then the numbers have steadily steadily steadily dropped we're going to take a look here at CJ Stroud's stats we're going to put it oh my bad put it on the big screen here so we were talking about that MVP caliber season in 2023 4 000 yards 23 touchdowns five interceptions for a rookie is insane that's the way he was playing in 15 games 2024 he played all games obviously the numbers went down a little bit we've seen it with Baker Mayfield the sophomore slump is a real thing his numbers decreased 3700 yards 20 touchdowns 12 interceptions 2025 what many consider to be the worst season of his NFL career he played the least amount of games obviously so that means his numbers are going to drop just a little bit but just a little over 3 000 passing yards didn't even crack 20 touchdowns had eight picks on the season so when we look at things like this when we look at statistics like that and then you see that CJ Stroud is coming out saying hey I want a contract that's I want that 60 million a year I want that Lamar Jackson Josh Allen kind of money we sit here and we scratch our heads saying CJ are you serious are you serious CJ we don't see him right now as the same caliber that we see Lamar Jackson because he still needs to prove that obviously in the divisional round last year against the New England Patriots CJ Stroud threw four interceptions in a losing effort that was the last time we saw CJ play an NFL game if unless you're including the preseason four interceptions in a loss and then comes out and says hey I want that big money deal I want that big money contract I think that right now the Houston Texans are doing a very smart idea and that being by holding off on giving him this huge extension and saying hey prove it prove that you can still be that quarterback that you were in year one where people were saying holy crap this is a super bowl caliber team because CJ Stroud in not only if you can activate that but if we have that super bowl caliber defense that we all know we are going to have headed into this next season that I don't think we have anything to worry about it falls on the shoulders of CJ Stroud yet at the same time because CJ Stroud has such an amazing defense it's not even going to be like he doesn't need to throw 35 times every Sunday he doesn't need to be the best player in the world he just needs to be consistent he just needs to be smart he just needs to rely on that offensive line that I think is going to be a lot better this year he just needs to rely on those guys Woody Marks David Montgomery in the backfield to get the job done to the new trade Kayshawn Booty to the now going to be healthy Nico Collins hopefully Tank Dell returns sometime after the first month of the season but that's what we need out of him that's what we need out of him and lastly I want to take a look at what they said at the end Stroud's 2025 numbers explain why the Texans are waiting his QBR 61.7 ranked 11 11th which shows the season was not a collapse the bigger concern came in the playoffs he threw 462 yards two touchdowns five interceptions across two games finishing with a 51.8 passer rating the contract deadline gives Stroud a reason to bet on himself general manager Nick Casario said the Texans will negotiate until the start of the season but if there's no agreement talks will move into the offseason and I think we're there we're at the first week of the NFL season it's officially Monday happy Labor Day by the way we play this Sunday I'm pretty sure he's not going to get a with the quarterback market already reaching roughly excuse me yeah with the quarterback market already reaching roughly 60 million dollars per year waiting could be financially smart if Stroud has a breakout year we need to rely on our guy CJ Stroud we need to have a little bit of faith in CJ and hope that he has the best year of his career because that is what we are going to need and maybe not even the best year of his career maybe he doesn't need to have 30 touchdowns plus maybe he doesn't need to have less than five interceptions like he had in his rookie year but this is definitely the biggest year of his career if he wants that money contract that is what we talked about here today on Texans Digest thank you
