This is a live picture at 424.
You just heard producers sat there.
Explain where this is.
This is right near the Getty Center.
So in the Sepulveda Pass,
you see the 405 there down below.
Traffic moving along just fine,
but this is not what you wanna see
on a day like today.
With the high heat,
the humidity is a good thing,
ultimately, when it comes to the firefight.
And I see, Adam, you're looking up
some of the conditions there.
Yeah, so this is literally just breaking now.
I'm trying to find,
it's gonna take me a second on my phone here
to look up exactly what the winds
and humidity are in this specific area.
So I'm gonna have that coming up
in about a minute or so,
if you just stay with me.
Yeah, we're sitting, we're hanging with you.
So I don't see any fire crews on scene.
Seth, do we know the response from LAFD?
Yeah, there are none there just yet,
but I know they are on the way.
We know that it's a 405 brush fire,
and we just got a little more information via Slack.
It is a northbound 405 freeway near there,
near the Getty Center, of course.
A vegetation fire, and LAFD is still en route.
Okay, so I think now with that vantage point
we were able to see, and we see a chopper,
that looks like a law enforcement chopper,
the Getty Center there.
And yes, this vegetation fire,
Adam is looking up, his microphone is still with us.
So Adam, just beware, you can talk at any point
if you get that information.
Yeah, sure, just the place I'm gonna go
to look at some of the data here.
It's a little clumsy to do on the phone,
so I'm off on the side on a computer here.
Oh yeah, no problem.
And again, that's just gonna,
I just need a second to focus on this,
and then I'll be right with you.
But it is, that data is coming, it's on the way.
I just need a moment here.
Yeah, so we're seeing the flames there
and the white smoke, not too big so far,
and we hope that it stays that way.
LAFD on the way, so we got there
before fire crews even arrived,
and traffic is not impacted.
Let's hope, again, that it stays that way.
We know how much these fires are driven by wind,
or they can be anyway, so Adam is checking
the wind speeds in the area as the fire races uphill,
and those are those active flames right there at the top,
vegetation fire, very hot outside,
and very humid.
This is a part of the area that knows fire,
wildfires all too well, unfortunately.
There have been, previously beyond the Palisades Fire,
there have been plenty of fires in this particular area.
A little closer to those exclusive neighborhoods
there in Brentwood, so I don't see any homes within,
at least that are threatened at this point,
and that's wonderful to hear.
Let's just hope that it stays a quick vegetation fire,
and maybe to have those air resources up,
which would not surprise me,
and then they can make very, very quick work of this,
given that it's not too big right now.
Adam, what are you learning?
Yeah, so Marla, sorry,
the computer's falling apart on me here.
All right, so we've got, near that area,
so I'm looking at a weather station
that's pretty close to Brentwood,
so not far from the Sepulveda Pass here.
It's a temperature of 92.
We've got relative humidity around 40%,
which is not super low.
It's also not real high, kind of just in between,
and we've got winds sustained around nine
with gusts up to 14, which I would describe
as a light breeze, not overly concerning.
Good.
So, you know, it's not extremely low humidity.
It's not very strong winds,
but it's not like the winds are calm either,
so we can, and you know,
just looking at the smoke from the aerials here,
that kind of gives you a sense of what the wind is doing.
The wind is from the southwest,
so blowing from southwest to northeast,
which in this spot would be kind of towards the 405,
which we see the smoke doing, right?
It's drifting over the 405.
So, and you know, fires can go in different directions
other than just where the wind is blowing.
It depends, of course, a lot on the terrain
and things of that nature.
So, again, as far as the weather goes,
you know, the heat alone, though,
is just enough to kind of zap the vegetation
and would make it combust a little easier,
and obviously it's very hot today.
So, and then you think about the challenges
of the crews out there and their gear in the heat,
you know, temperature is there in the 90s right now.
Very uncomfortable.
So, there's the human element there
of just the people that are trying to work on this
have to deal with the heat as well.
Yeah, absolutely.
We had breaking news of an apartment fire
in Beverly Hills,
and those crews were dealing with heat issues.
Of course, no surprise.
So, again, this is right near Getty Center Drive.
This is the Xtreme Nav technology
where you see Sepulveda Boulevard.
Oh, we're measuring.
I love this.
So, less than 1,000 feet, it looks like, to the Getty.
No homes that I can see that are directly threatened.
LAFD is the responding agency.
What I'm looking forward to is seeing those air resources
drop some quick water drops.
There's the reservoir, the basin right over there.
That would be amazing because I know that
that could ultimately help put this out
in a very quick manner.
And northbound 405 right now is starting to slow,
but no problem there given that, or no surprise,
I should say, it's 429.
So, this is when it gets busy,
especially in the northbound direction.
Who am I kidding?
In any direction in the 405.
And you know what's kind of interesting,
going back to the weather element here,
is a normal September, we're usually,
it's very difficult to have any rain around here.
And just going back to this past weekend,
thanks to Hurricane Marie,
we had all that rain streaming through here on Sunday.
There was some on Monday,
but I mean, Sunday it was widespread.
Everyone got it.
We got a good dose.
So, the vegetation not as dry as it otherwise would be
in a normal year, a normal September,
when usually rain is very hard to come by.
Not sure if that, I would imagine that helps a little.
Obviously, it's still dry enough to burn
and burn substantially.
So, you know, we'll watch it.
It could be worse is what I'm getting at.
The vegetation could be drier,
but the fact that we got some rain just a few days ago,
at least I would imagine helps a little bit.
I'm glad you brought that up
because I have a short-term memory when it comes to that.
And given it's so hot and humid,
I forgot that we had that rain.
So yeah, that was just over the weekend.
So yeah, some of that moisture perhaps lingering there
in the soil and the vegetation.
This is just west of the 405.
Traffic not impacted by the firefight,
which not necessarily even a firefight just yet
because we haven't seen any of those units on scene.
Oh, there we go.
Just as I say it, I see air resources up
and hopefully we can,
hopefully we can see a water drop.
That's what we want.
That's what we wanna see.
So we'll stick with the picture, of course.
We're not going anywhere.
We've got you covered here on Fox Local
as we're now beyond the 430, mark 431.
And this is breaking news.
If you're just joining us,
this is just west of the 405 and north of the Getty.
The Getty is less than 1,000 feet.
We were able to measure that.
So less than 1,000 feet away.
No immediate structures are threatened.
I will say this, and I'm just getting this
from our Kevin Takumi who is an engineer here
and also flies in SkyFox.
He knows the system well.
He points out that the nearest structures
are Mount St. Mary College.
And if you're a local, you know where that is.
That is all within this vicinity,
within this neighborhood, ultimately,
in the Brentwood area.
So did you get some information?
Well, just another thing to keep in mind too
as we watch the aircraft, the helicopters, et cetera.
Some of them are dedicated to simply spotting the fire
and choosing the points
where the water drops will be coming, right?
So if people are watching and wondering
why didn't that helicopter or aircraft drop something,
they're all used for different reasons.
So some will just be spotters
or kind of surveilling the area.
Yep, so we just saw the air resources on scene
and now we see the engines that have pulled up there
right there at Getty Center Drive.
More of that smoke is billowing across the northbound
and southbound 405.
Traffic is still moving along.
It doesn't seem to be impacted.
Obviously, there's gonna be some looky-loos
and a lot of people who may have experienced
the Palisades fire or any of the recent fires
near the Getty and think, oh my goodness.
So the good news is, and we're so happy to report
that LAFD is now on scene.
They have ground units, they have air units up.
That's exactly what we want to see.
No immediate structures are threatened.
The Mount St. Mary's College
is ultimately the closest venue here.
Getty, the Getty itself is 720 feet away.
We were able to measure that very precise around here
thanks to our technology up there in SkyFox.
So that's helpful to note.
And we're seeing these active flames up and over.
