More than 1,300 arrests across France as protesters clashed with police

Here in Paris we can hear helicopters swirling above us, that's just one of the many measures which was implemented today as part of the demonstrations which took place as the interior ministry and government said that they wanted to avoid any of the scenes of violence which occurred last weekend. Protests which took place in France, in Paris and across the country today were largely peaceful and there were some clashes which broke out here in the Porte de Vincennes located on the eastern border of the Paris suburbs, where protesters and some individuals clashed with the police. There were also some clashes in other French cities, including in places where protests had in fact been banned, such as the city of Lyon. According to the interior minister, what happened was later in the day, groups which he described as linked to the ultra-left came and caused chaos. Of course, we are waiting for the finer details to be able to decipher what actually happened and to gather testimony from those here. And at present, the police has arrested nearly 1,000 people, according to the Interior Minister as well. And he said that this number will only go up. That's far above the figures of those who were arrested last weekend. It's worth also noting that separately, although some clashes did occur here, many protesters have, over the course of this movement, called out what they qualify as disproportionate measures used by the police. as rights groups have accused the police of using brutal methods.
