49ers Insider Grant Cohn Gives an Honest Assessment of Vegemite
Sep 9, 2026
All right, it's time for me to try Vegemite.
I've been putting this one off because I figured if it was really, really good, we'd have it
in America.
So the fact that we don't means it's probably an acquired taste.
And I just posted a picture on X saying that I'm going to try it, and I was just flooded
with hundreds of comments from Australians warning me not to put too much on my toast
and to put a lot of butter.
So I have followed your warnings.
Check it out.
So this is apparently a yeast extract.
It's not a vegetable.
I don't really know what that means.
Let me give it a shot and see if I like it.
It is pungent.
It's definitely not Nutella.
I like it.
I'm going to have another bite.
Hold on.
It's good.
Okay.
It reminds me of like bouillon or like chicken stock or MSG.
A lot of people think MSG is taboo, don't want it in their food.
I love MSG.
I can't get enough.
That's the flavor.
This is great.
We should have this in America.
It adds something to the toast and butter experience.
It gives a little, a lot of savoriness, savoritude.
That's a word in America.
If you really like this, it's great.
I would recommend it.
Come down to Australia.
You're going to love it.
