Video Summary
AI GeneratedSony has terminated *Wheel of Fortune* announcer Jim Thornton following evidence of his participation in a pedophilia-related chat room. The video also covers the mistrial of Lindsay Clancy, erratic behavior by Brian Hickerson, Kanye West's Chicago concert, a feud between influencers Alex Earle and Alex Cooper, the projected economic impact of GTA 6, and various lighthearted segments.
Welcome to TMZ Live.
We just got word Sony has fired Jim Thornton, the announcer for Wheel of Fortune, after
we obtained photos of screenshots of Jim on a pedophile chat room.
These were messages that he was typing and others were typing in a chat room while Jim
was on an American Airlines flight.
There's a passenger across the aisle who saw his screen and became so alarmed she started
taking pictures.
She started taking photos.
She also reported this to the flight crew.
But what she saw that was so concerning to her were messages that she felt were related
to pedophilia, that there were people in this chat room saying things that were untoward.
So when you look at these screenshots, the person with the handle NicholasB77 appears
to be Jim Thornton.
We know that because there's a message that he typed at the bottom while he's in this
chat room and it appears later as NicholasB77.
So with that knowledge, one of the messages that NicholasB77 wrote said something about
going to a restaurant, I believe it was a Golden Corral, with his family.
And while he was there, he saw a couple of cute boys and a hot little girl.
And then also refers to it as an all-you-can-eat boyfay, like buffet.
So again, that is the NicholasB77.
It goes on from there.
Right.
And then there were also references to another site called Boy- I don't even want to say
it, but we've looked it up.
It is another pedophilia site, but this one has photos.
And in fact, NicholasB77 says, I'm going to go to that site so I can start looking at
galleries.
Now, in the chat, there were people who said, NicholasB77, who we believe to be Jim Thornton,
says, this is wild being in Lifeline.
Lifeline chat is the chat room.
This is wild being in Lifeline while I'm in the sky.
And another user says, are you concerned?
What if someone else sees?
And he said, yes, exactly.
What if someone sees a random sequence of lines on a screen?
I love it.
And he also said that he had hidden the title of the chat room so they wouldn't know.
So Jim clearly thinks, no one's going to know what I'm actually doing.
So the woman who is sitting across the aisle does see the screen and alerts a flight attendant
who then talks to the captain.
And when the plane lands at LAX, Jim Thornton gets off the plane and is met by law enforcement.
They talk to him for a few minutes and he is let go.
He is never arrested.
This happened back in May.
And so given that months have passed, we don't know if they're doing any follow-up.
But so far, we know of no follow-up at all.
No.
Now, something else happened on that flight after the passenger talked to the flight attendant.
The flight attendant was very disturbed by this information.
In fact, the passenger shared the photos with the flight attendant.
The flight attendant walked up to Jim Thornton and said, you need to close your laptop.
And we're told that Jim responded saying something like, oh, I was just doing some work.
And the flight attendant again said, close your laptop.
He closes the laptop.
And according to the passenger that we spoke to, Jim then got nervous that someone had
actually seen what was on his laptop and started searching on his phone in an AI search asking,
what if someone sees me in a chat room and he is trying to find out if there is any illegal,
if he's done anything illegal?
That all doesn't look very good.
Now, we did speak to Jim's attorney.
Right.
And this is where it gets really interesting.
So the lawyer, you actually have the card.
His lawyer said that this is the explanation for how he ended up in this chat room.
Jim had been working with for some time now has been working in suicide prevention advocacy
and that he got into this because he lost a family member years ago to suicide.
Now, that chat room that he goes into to help
suicide people who have suicidal thoughts is called 988lifeline.org.
It's a chat forum to help people who have suicidal thoughts.
But he was, according to his attorney, he was sent a link to a different chat room,
lifeline.chat, from an acquaintance at the suicide prevention group.
He went into lifeline, hit the link, went into it.
And now they say once he realized that lifeline.chat is for people with pedophilic thoughts,
he immediately got out of that room and never went back to it again.
That's according to Jim Thornton's attorney.
So here's the rub that there are timestamps on the screen grabs that we got.
And based on that, he was in that chat room for a minimum of 57 minutes.
Yeah, the 57 minutes is not someone immediately leaving
once they realize what that chat room is about.
The other problem with that explanation, if you want to sort of question it,
is his awareness in the things he was typing about being in the air and being on such a website.
You wouldn't have those thoughts about a suicide prevention
hotline or suicide prevention chat line.
And you also wouldn't go into an AI app and ask what the legal repercussions are of someone
seeing you're in a pedophilia chat room.
So these are the problems with this explanation.
It's fine to take that space.
There are similar URLs.
Well, the 57 minutes defies the lawyer's explanation.
Yeah, because you realize it within seconds.
It's crazy.
Now, we should say, again, as you said, law enforcement met him.
They spoke to him.
They did not arrest him.
He has not been charged with anything.
And as far as we know, there's not even an investigation.
We don't know.
His lawyer adds, it is the chat room he was in, lifeline.chat.
The lawyer says, it is not unlawful.
There is no unlawful child pornography or other pedophilic content.
My client never viewed, downloaded, or consumed any child pornography,
whether on that commercial flight in May or at any other time.
I think the lawyer is right about that.
The lawyer is absolutely right that this is not downloading child pornography.
This is not an overt act to meet a young person or anything of that nature.
Obviously, Wheel of Fortune has a different standard, and that's why
they dropped the hammer and fired Jim after just a couple of days.
Well, the handwriting was on the wall.
They had already scrubbed him from the episodes they've already shot.
Yeah, they have about a month worth of episodes from this new season,
and they are taking him off of those immediately.
He's been on Wheel for a long, long time.
Yeah, he's a well-known guy.
He's the voice, the announcer.
And so people really-
Was a big radio guy here in LA also.
Yes, has a very distinct Wheel of Fortune voice.
If you watch the show, you know Jim.
Yeah, the chat is asking why he hasn't been arrested yet.
And if he does-
Because of what Charles just said.
Right.
I'm just guessing here because, and by the way,
we've reached out to law enforcement to find out what happened.
We are not getting any word back.
But if all they saw was that chat room, it is clearly untoward.
You can call it creepy, obviously.
But it's not illegal for him to have that conversation.
And conversations are not crimes.
Hi, it's Anthony here in London.
And look, guys, I fully agree with you.
I definitely think the user on that chat room was Jim.
And I think if you want to look into it even further,
he mentioned something about having acres of land behind his house and poison ivy.
And he lives in Jacob Proctor's old house, which is in Ohio, in Proctorville.
And you can see it on Google Maps, like there are tons of land behind it.
If we needed any more evidence to know it was him.
Yeah, there's a lot of-
And by the way, on the site, we have a full gallery of all the photos,
of the images of that chat room.
There's a lot of information in there.
But again, we have to stress he has not been arrested or charged with any crime.
However, he is looking for a job and-
Coming up.
It is now official.
The jury in the Lindsay Clancy murder case is deadlocked.
There is drama behind that ruling because the jury was split 11 to 1.
And that one holdout created enormous drama today.
Be right back.
It is now official.
The jury in the Lindsay Clancy murder case is deadlocked.
But man, there is drama behind that ruling.
That there is a mistrial and the jury is hopelessly deadlocked
because the jury was split 11 to 1.
And that one holdout created enormous drama today.
Yes, it was a long, strange trip to get to this mistrial because
when the judge announced that it was going to be a mistrial,
that they were still after-
Remember, yesterday, they came back and said that it was 11 to 1.
The judge gave them instructions, talked about reasonable doubt, defined it,
sent them back into deliberations.
And when they came back this morning, they said,
we are still deadlocked.
That's it.
The judge says, mistrial.
And you think, all right, that's it.
It's mistrial.
Well, but the thing is that what came out was the foreman told the judge
that this holdout, this 12th person,
had doubt about his position or her position, we don't know which,
but still was just rooted in whatever they wanted to do
and presumably find guilt where the other people didn't.
And the defense lawyer said, look, this person is not following the law.
And the judge said, well, I've talked to all of them.
I believe they are.
Well, the defense lawyer, beg to differ, runs to the Supreme Court of Massachusetts
and gets one of the justices to hear the case,
hoping that this Supreme Court justice would order this trial judge
to set aside this mistrial and presumably knock off this-
And it was an emergency hearing.
They actually, they did it on a live stream.
We could watch the arguments being made and the state Supreme Court justice
ended up rejecting that motion to overturn the mistrial.
Which is something that was so apparent was going to happen.
It was done pretty quickly.
Trial judges have enormous discretion in what they do.
So look, the person that I wanted so badly and Charles as well to bring in
is somebody who has had a parallel experience.
Yes.
And that is attorney Alan Jackson, one of the best criminal defense lawyers in the country.
He is the man who was defending Karen Reed in Massachusetts twice,
once resulting in a mistrial, the second time where she was found not guilty.
And there may be a similar playbook here.
Right.
So joining us right now is Alan Jackson.
Alan, welcome back to TMZ Live.
Nice to see you guys.
Nice to see you.
Did it feel like-
We're kind of learning that.
Did it feel like deja vu watching this this morning?
And what happens now?
Do you think they will retry Lindsay Clancy?
I think so.
It did feel a little bit like deja vu.
It was very, very odd, the circumstances.
I thought, let me say first that I thought that Kevin Reddington pulling that rabbit
out of a hat and asking for a 211.3 conference with the SJC, the single justice with an emergency
stay concomitant to it was a point of brilliance.
It was just legal brilliance.
I don't know that anybody would have really thought of that in the moment, but he did.
It was very, very smart for him to do.
He took the alley-oop and tried to make the basket.
It obviously didn't work.
I think the judge had, as you said, Harvey, a few minutes ago, the judge had in his mind,
this is going to be a mistrial.
He's not going to inquire any further.
And I think that's the failing of the system as it's the precedent in Massachusetts.
I think what the judge should have done was say, I'm going to independently inquire of
each juror.
I'm going to do it one at a time outside the presence of the media, outside the presence
of the cameras and outside the presence of any of the other jurors and ask each one of
them, the 11 and the one, is everybody deliberating?
If there's one person that's not, explain that failure of deliberation to me.
And that would have given him the predicate to remove that juror if, in fact, it turns
out that 11 people said that the juror's just not following the law.
He or she, I think in this case a he, is just not deliberating.
And then we would have gotten to a point where either, this would be extraordinary and very,
very rare, but there is some law in Massachusetts that allows 11 people to come to the verdict.
I think he would have installed one of the alternates and said, start deliberations over.
And then that's where we go.
So Charles and I were talking about this earlier, that, look, it's 11 to one.
My guess, and we don't know yet, but it sure seems to me like they bought the not guilty
by reason of insanity defense.
That's what it sounds like.
Yeah.
And so if the prosecution decides to do it again, they have the backdrop of Karen Reid,
your case.
Right.
And it didn't make the DA look great in that case.
And if Massachusetts repeats it again and they get an Alan Jackson result in the retrial,
that's not a great look for Massachusetts.
Well, that's a serious black eye to the justice system in Massachusetts.
Yet again, I thought it was a travesty that we had to try the case a second time because
the judge never pulled, Judge Kenoni never pulled the jurors to find out if there was,
in fact, a verdict of the other counts.
If she had done that, we would have found that, in fact, she had been acquitted.
Karen had been acquitted originally.
I don't know why the judge didn't do that in this case as well.
Mr. Reddington was asking for that.
We've got some precedent.
It just happened two years ago that this debacle happened again or happened previously.
And we don't want it to happen again.
So that would have been an easy thing for the judge to do.
And I think he should have done it.
I've been impressed with this judge, actually.
But I think that was a failure on his part.
I think he could have and should have at least engaged in that query.
Is there a verdict on any of the charges that all 12 could agree on?
And are you hung on something subordinate?
So if they do come back and retry her, which it seems like they will,
what should the prosecutors, do they go for a lesser charge?
They try her for strictly just manslaughter because they had the option this time of
first-degree murder, second-degree murder, manslaughter, or not guilty by reason of insanity.
You'd still have, I think, the insanity as the not guilty option.
Well, that's the defense's option.
Yeah, that's what the defense would want.
But do they go for both manslaughter and murder?
To try and get a conviction.
I can't imagine that they would prosecute this case for manslaughter.
To me, it doesn't make any sense.
I wasn't sure why manslaughter was on the verdict form in this case.
Either she intentionally killed the children or she was acting under the influence of psychosis,
of a mental health break, in which she killed the children.
But I don't believe that there is any factual room for a reasonable argument
that this was negligence.
I don't think it was negligence on her part.
I understand why they argued it.
I understand why Kevin argued it, that a jury could come back with some sort of negligence
on her part, that she wasn't taking her medication, that she wasn't following doctor's orders,
et cetera, that led to the death.
But I think that's a legal stretch and a factual stretch.
And I don't think this prosecution is going to give one inch.
I think they're going to come back just like they did in Karen's case.
They're going to come back full tilt with an eye toward convicting her of murder,
which I think is also a travesty, personally.
I was thinking this morning that I think you're probably right.
But if you're wrong, and if they think, well, do we really want another Karen Reid loss,
and they don't retry her, Kevin Reddington lost the battle but won the war.
Because had she been found not guilty by reason of insanity,
the judge would certainly keep her in a mental facility for years.
But if she's found, if there's a mistrial and they don't retry her, she's a free woman.
Immediately.
She's a free woman.
So if they'd make that decision, if they made that decision,
it would be a better result for Lindsay Clancy than a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity.
Yeah, it could be.
Obviously, that would inert to her benefit.
If she was, I believe, we'll find out.
I'm presuming that we will find out eventually, probably pretty quickly,
that this was going to be the 11 were not guilty by reason of insanity,
or what they say they're not criminally liable because of a mental breakdown or psychosis.
I think that that was going to be the verdict.
And she was not going home.
Look, she was going to be put into a state hospital, a mental institution,
and heavily evaluated, heavily medicated to figure out kind of what her malady is.
Unless and until that could ever be corrected to the satisfaction of the
psychiatrists that are attended to it,
then she was going to stay institutionalized for a long, long time, decades probably.
In this case, who knows what's going to happen if they decide to go after this again.
And let's say that public opinion has swayed so heavily in her favor,
which it really did in this case.
I mean, it is a divided case.
I will give you that.
It's as closely divided as I've ever seen.
But when it started, it was not closely divided.
When it started, it was anti-Lindsey, up one side and down the other.
And Kevin was able to establish a very, very thorough narrative that suggested otherwise.
And now public opinion is swaying in her direction.
So now they're going to be dealing with picking a jury in the future
that I think has heavily been influenced by this media coverage.
They're not going to find a Massachusetts jury
that doesn't know about the Lindsey Clancy case.
It was just like in Karen Reid's case.
We did not have a jury who had never heard of the case.
We just had to find a jury who said,
jurors who said, I won't be influenced by what I've read or what I've heard.
That's going to be a tough slog.
You're going to be getting a call from Kevin Reddington saying,
download me on this retrial thing.
Alan, we so appreciate you coming on.
Of course, of course.
Nice to see you guys.
All right.
Really good seeing you.
Take care.
It is even more apparent now that Hayden Panettiere's boyfriend,
Brian Hickerson, has been spiraling out of control.
We had this picture earlier in the week that we showed you
where he was hiding underneath the table.
But the video which we now have of this incident is even more off the rails.
Be right back.
It's TMZ.
It is even more apparent now that Hayden Panettiere's boyfriend,
Brian Hickerson, for at least a year has been spiraling out of control.
Off the rails.
The new evidence that we have is video of this incident
at a West Hollywood, a popular West Hollywood bar, Barney's Beanery.
We had this picture earlier in the week that we showed you where he was hiding
crazy, right?
But the video which we now have of this incident is even more off the rails.
He is, I don't know why his shoes are off, but in this you can see his sneakers are still there.
But he's pinned himself underneath this chair, underneath the table.
And when the deputies show up, because the bar tried to kick him out,
he obviously wasn't leaving.
That's why he, you know, locked himself underneath that table.
The deputies show some patience.
And they're standing there talking to him for a while
before they eventually convince him to get up.
They immediately cuff him.
And then you see him spit at something or someone right next to the deputy.
They take him outside and they arrest him.
Never gets charged, but four days later gets charged again.
All alcohol or substance related.
And look, the reason this is so relevant is
Hayden Panettiere had a long, long history of substance abuse.
And she was with Brian Hickerson for a long, long time.
And she was trying to get clean.
I guess you could argue maybe he was, but wasn't clean.
And she knew it was bad for her to be around him because she tried to hide it,
but she never left him, even after they had a domestic violence situation.
And it's relevant to whatever happened the day that she died in South Carolina,
because we know that there was Narcan there.
And we know that Brian and his brother and or his brother
gave her that Narcan trying to revive her.
And he and she is dead in the living room.
He is passed out in the living room or asleep.
And, you know, they're investigating this now.
But when you start connecting dots, they connect.
They totally connect.
And what's interesting about this video in West Hollywood at Barney's that we showed
is that we spoke to the owners.
They said he got removed that day, but he wasn't permanently banned from the bar,
which is a completely different story across the country in Greenville, where she did die.
There were bars there.
Brian was banned from three different bars.
I mean, think of that.
Three bars in South Carolina.
In the two to three months leading up to her death.
All substance related.
Correct.
And so he was off the rails and he was with her and he had Narcan and she was dead.
And he pointed to medication when the police came.
All the information that we've gathered about Brian Hickerson over the last year
makes it clear why he would have Narcan in, you know, traveling,
that he'd be traveling with Narcan.
But maybe her too.
But but maybe her too.
We don't know because what Hayden was doing publicly,
she was presenting one thing and she talked about it in a memoir.
And it certainly seemed like she was getting better.
That's what she was putting out.
So did Matthew Perry.
You know, it's like sometimes the image you present and, you know,
the toxicology has not come in yet.
So what was in her system is going to be highly relevant in this case.
Yeah.
But that may still take weeks.
Hi, I'm Selina Waterman-Smith.
I'm messaging you from Brisbane.
And I find this footage really disturbing
because Brian is really parading his dysfunction in front of us.
He's making no attempt to hide it.
And culturally, we have this extraordinary appetite for rehabilitating men through language.
He was troubled or distressed or fighting his demons.
But if the roles were reversed and Hayden was under a table barefoot spitting at someone,
she would be cancelled on the spot.
Yeah, well, he wasn't famous and she was.
Yeah.
Coming up.
Kanye West went home to Chicago and man, was it a huge homecoming.
Performed at Soldier Field, but he brought a special guest out.
Someone he has had a lot of bad blood with in the past.
Be right back.
Kanye West went home to Chicago and man, was it a huge homecoming.
Performed at Soldier Field.
That would have been special enough.
Just him being in Chicago.
Packed it, by the way.
Yes, packed out Soldier Field.
But he brought a special guest out.
Someone he has had a lot of bad blood with in the past.
Brought out the homie Big Sean, who was not a homie for a very long time.
Because when Kanye West was getting into politics,
he called out Big Sean and John Legend and a few others
for not supporting him.
That was a time when Kanye was kind of going off the rails and some of his
longtime friends didn't publicly support him.
Big Sean was on Kanye's label, Good Music, and that came to a bad end.
Kanye said, I made Big Sean.
Yes.
And in fact, when things went south, even said something to the effect of
my biggest mistake ever was signing Big Sean.
So the fact that they were back on stage together yesterday, last night.
We also failed to mention that Big Sean also said that Kanye West at a point in
time owed him $6 million.
So this reconciliation comes on the heels of Kanye calling him a sellout.
Big Sean saying he owes him a lot of money.
They sang the song Click together in the hometown.
And Big Sean even went as far as to give Kanye his flowers.
He said, I will forever love you.
I will always love you.
So it seems like they are genuinely like back in good terms.
And another thing a lot of people are pointing out is Kanye seems to be on the up and up.
They're saying that maybe they were able to reconcile because we haven't seen Kanye
having a mental outburst in a long time.
So maybe that may be why that may be why Big Sean is is back with him.
But I got to tell you, fans never left his fan.
It's like the things Kanye West said were so horrific.
But maybe because of the climate in the United States right now,
a lot of people aren't all that upset about what he said.
And he's filling stadiums.
But not just Chicago, which you could understand because it's his hometown and everything else.
Los Angeles, he built a stadium.
He just sold out New Orleans last week.
And Chicago, 72,000 people for two nights in a row.
So he's making a lot of money.
I think that says something.
I think that says something about the undercurrent of what's going on in the country.
Probably says something about that.
I think it also is just a testament to his catalog and how much people love his music.
I will say this, though, that Michael Jackson had an equally spectacular catalog.
And there are a lot of people who never left Michael Jackson to this day.
But there are also people who wouldn't listen to Michael Jackson
because of the allegations, even though he was found not guilty.
And with Kanye, what he said, he said, and we know he said it.
I think actually, I think that's a good example.
And I think they're very much the same.
That largely, Kanye's still packing out stadiums.
Michael Jackson would be selling out stadiums also if he were alive.
Yeah.
The number of people who aren't listening to their music is very small for both Michael and Kanye.
I don't know about Michael.
I don't know.
Hi, I'm Michelle from New York.
And I actually went to the Kanye concert last Friday in New Orleans.
I went with my daughter.
It was a phenomenal experience from the performance to the production.
It was unbelievable.
It was definitely a childhood dream come true.
And when Mercy came on, I was wishing that Big Sean and 2 Chainz were on stage with him,
which, you know, there weren't.
But when I saw the videos of the performance last night in Chicago,
it did make me happy to see them back on stage,
reunited despite the differences, you know, he had with him before.
This is an etch-a-sketch moment to me.
Well, Alex Earl held her tongue for quite some time now,
several months about this feud with Alex Cooper.
She promised that she would go back at her former co-worker at Barstool.
But the reason she was holding back is, of course, she has a Netflix show.
She hasn't.
Yes, she has a Netflix show.
And it's called Earl Meets World.
And she knew that this is where she was going to lay it out.
So it dropped last night on Netflix.
And yes, as promised, she went in on Alex Cooper.
I stayed quiet for so long because I am scared of Alex Cooper.
I found out that I was no longer working with Unwell through the media.
So I'm, like, just intimidated.
I don't know what she's going to do or how she's going to twist things.
From the start, I didn't realize things were going wrong because I was, like,
obsessed with her.
And I was like, this is my idol.
Like, I'm so happy to work with her.
And then constantly felt taken advantage of and used and mistreated and manipulated.
And things like we're filming her podcast and she's having a drink before and then asking
me really sexual questions I wasn't comfortable with.
But then I'm also answering because I'm drunk.
I'm imagining myself in her shoes to, like, take someone in college who's young,
impressionable, you know, looks up to you and then ask them these, like, raunchy questions,
which I was, like, definitely a little uncomfortable with.
OK, so I want to understand something.
She says she didn't speak up for a long time because she is scared of Alex Cooper,
but not scared to talk about it on the Netflix show, which made her a lot of money, presumably.
The scared thing is obviously her just deflecting.
I think, I mean, it's obvious, Harvey.
She waited because Netflix paid her a lot of money.
That's what I'm saying.
But she's trying to sell us.
I mean, I definitely do think she was somewhat scared of Alex Cooper.
She's trashing, listen, I'm not saying she's right or wrong,
but she's trashing Alex Cooper on Netflix.
So she can't be that scared.
It was, let's be real, it was kind of a lame payoff after we've been,
everyone's been waiting months to find out.
But it's what they had to promote.
No, I know.
But ultimately, she thought she was her idol and she took advantage of her.
By the way, that's basically what happened.
I said Barstool before.
It's Unwell, what I meant with Alex Cooper was at Barstool,
and then she started Unwell and hired Alex Earle.
They need storylines, Harvey.
Like, what do you want?
But this is six parts.
Yeah, I guess that's my point.
That's my point.
She hooked up with Brady.
What happens beyond this?
Like, you used Alex Cooper as the provo for your first episode.
What are they going to do for five more parts?
Well, yeah.
Yeah, I don't know.
Coming up.
The trailer dropped for Grand Theft Auto 6,
and economists predict that this game could cost the US $1 billion in lost productivity.
So we're going to follow the money here,
and our good buddy Damon John is here to help us out.
Be right back.
You know when they say that the video gaming industry is bigger than the movie industry now?
Well, it is.
It cannot be disputed.
The trailer dropped for GTA 6, Grand Theft Auto 6,
which is finally going to be released in November.
More than 31 million people have watched the trailer for a video game.
That's crazy.
There is so much anticipation for this game.
I've heard some of it walking around our office.
They were offering people in the army to play the game, but you have to re-enlist.
Yes, and there were people who took them up on that.
I know!
So there's a lot of excitement and anticipation, but there's a risk to the economy.
There have been studies done since this trailer came out,
and economists predict that this game being released could cost the US $1 billion
in lost productivity.
They're not talking about taking a day off.
They're talking about multiple days or a week.
I need to understand this.
Yes, so we're going to follow the money here.
There's a lot of it that could be lost, and our good buddy Damon John is here to help us out.
Damon, GTA 6, I know video games are popular, but a billion dollars in lost productivity?
We are sounding old, guys.
This is the way the world is going.
This is when, you know, when you start liking rock and roll, they say,
why don't those people bathe, right, the artists?
Or when I started liking rap, there's no music!
No, no, no, no, no.
There's a difference.
There's a difference between really getting into something and stopping working and just saying,
your whole life didn't stop when a new album came out.
I'll just slack off for a week and play Grand Theft Auto 6.
There is a huge difference between that and rock and roll.
No, when Run-D.M.C. first dropped, I took off for a week just to, you know, shine my Adidas.
Get out of here.
What a slacker you are.
All right, so let's go over some numbers.
Since 2013, it has done billions of dollars of business, and the last time they launched,
they did a billion dollars in three days in sales.
Three days?
In three days in sales.
And here's what we're talking about.
They're hitting people on their phone directly.
People, though, what can we learn from this?
We could laugh and shun people and stuff like that.
But, you know, what we're learning is people want to be interactive with their entertainment
and their sports, whether it is in TikTok or whether it is getting onto the field.
They're in the field right now.
They're taking a vacation because, you know what?
They want to put their headphones on and get into this thing for a week with other people
and become part of a world that they feel accepted in and they have a culture.
And this is where we're going in this world today.
I'm not saying it's the best thing, the smartest thing to do, but you know what?
It is what it is.
And, you know, we're getting into it right now.
We're seeing it in real time.
But what do you do if you're an employer and then suddenly you have a bunch of people who
are just like, you're just going to get flooded with vacation requests that week or just people
calling out sick?
No, that's the truth.
That's a true another issue, right?
We can we can dictate Thanksgiving.
We can dictate other holidays.
We can't dictate that some video game drop and my team is not here for a week.
Now, as an employer, you're going to have to deal with that.
If they took their own vacation, they took their own vacation.
They took their own personal days.
But this type of person who's going to do these type of things, I guess you're going
to have to make your adjustment.
But half of the people here, the bigger problem, half these people, they're just going to be
on Zoom acting like they're on Zoom.
There's probably going to be a mannequin there and they're going to be right behind the mannequin
playing, you know, Grand Theft Auto.
That's the big problem.
You're giving people ideas.
You're giving people ideas, Danny.
You're still paying for the person.
So, but I guess I don't quite understand it.
Like, for example, we have people in the room.
If somebody is sitting there playing Grand Theft Auto, we're going to see it.
I mean, how?
Yeah, I don't know that anyone would be so bold to play while they're at work, would they?
Is it?
That's what I'm saying.
No, they're saying they're not going to work.
So they just don't come to work.
No, they're calling out.
I mean, there's been reports of people who said a medical rep told a reporter that she's
taking off a full week just to play.
And that's a payroll walking out of the door.
But how many people take off because they're going to go to Coachella or they're going
to go to FIFA?
But if they have a vacation day, if you want to blow your vacation days on Grand Theft
Auto, more power to you.
Right.
But when your vacation days are up, you got to be at work.
Also, I just want to restate something.
Sick days are for illness.
Actual illness.
Not because this is a sick day.
Well, if you're not doing anything with your life and you're spending four days your time
that you need, you're not where you're at in life.
You're pretty sick already.
I think that's enough.
This is a guy thing, right?
No, no, no, no.
This is a cultural thing.
It is a lot of young men and women and older men and women.
Gaming is very big.
My buddy, I think, you know, Clinton Spark has a huge gaming league and you have some
of the biggest stars.
This is huge.
And so you have Grand Theft Auto and you have a lot of other things.
This is really big.
But we got to pay attention to it now.
Do we think that employees don't slack?
You think how much time you think they really are doing at work?
You know, they're on TikTok.
They're shopping.
They're doing various other things at work, too.
This is just another form of it that is happening at one time.
And we're all going to see the power of it with these sales.
Wow.
OK.
Yes, we will.
November 19th, it's going to be a big day.
By the way, I see someone lurking over here.
This feels like maybe we should have a conversation with him.
Oh.
Damien, I don't know if you want to help us have an intervention.
Oh, yeah.
Jackson, just want to be very clear.
Yeah.
The YouTube, TMZ's YouTube channel still needs to run on November 19th.
It'll run, but there is nothing else.
And there will not be.
You can't be doing GTA investigations.
I won't be doing GTA investigations.
I'll do my own personal investigation.
At home, after work.
Maybe.
Maybe after.
I have some people on my team that are already threatening to call off that day because it's
releasing.
So I'm going to have to be in.
Well, you've got to compartmentalize this, man, because I don't want them to get excited
from that game and then go knock over a 7-Eleven afterwards either.
So.
OK.
Well, stay in the game.
We'll be on the lookout for that.
Thank you, Damien.
Thanks, Damien.
So Beyonce turned 45 years old and she is marking the moment by a hawk in a box.
Very expensive box.
Be right back.
So Beyonce turned 45 years old.
Yeah.
Happy birthday to the Queen Bee.
And she is marking the moment by a hawk in a box.
So check this out.
A very expensive box.
This is a box where you presumably can store her records.
And you can buy it for the bargain basement price of $1,000.
There are, I believe, 500 of these.
Now, it's not an actual beehive, is it?
It's just made to look like a beehive.
It's a storage box for albums.
Right.
But they make it look, they put the bee on top of it.
It's a collector's item.
Has she ever done anything like this?
It's a collector's item.
Has she?
Yeah, she's done lots of collector's items that come out.
OK, she has?
They don't always sell that well.
But $1,000, that's always been the thing.
Her collectibles are really, really pricey.
So that's $500,000, I believe, if she sells them all?
That she would make if she sells them all?
And she will sell them all.
I guarantee she will sell them all.
Oh, my God.
What else do you guys want to talk about?
I'm Leeler Sims.
I'm from Houston.
And my topic is the guy, Mr. Thornton from Wheel of Fortune.
That is so crazy how he got caught on an airplane.
Whoever caught him definitely needs to work for law enforcement.
Because I know he was shocked when he got off of that plane.
And also, I feel like whoever was in that chat room with him should also be investigated.
Well, it's interesting that this woman or whoever,
the woman across the aisle had zeroed in on it and took those pictures.
Right, very much so.
And as far as Jim and other people in that chat room,
the police talked to him and felt there was nothing there to charge him with.
So that's why he's free.
One more.
Hi, this is Edith from New York.
And I just think that Alex Cooper is going to not win this feud with Alex Earl.
Alex Earl is representing this new stream of thought in influencer culture
where you don't have to be perfect.
And that people are really tired of this cookie cutter persona.
And I think that Alex Cooper is just waiting for Alex Earl to fail.
And she kind of can't because she's built her brand.
What was interesting about this thing that you saw with Alex Earl about the first episode?
What was interesting?
I didn't actually watch the first episode.
I was commenting more.
Watch it and get back to us.
Coming up, Babcock has never eaten the taco.
In his entire life.
And the look on your face, there's two there.
This is barely a taco.
It doesn't have lettuce.
No.
It's meat and cheese.
It's a L.A. street taco.
Take a bite.
Be right back.
Okay, so during the morning meeting today, food came up.
Yes.
What is this thing even called?
This is a matcha iced tea.
You've never had matcha?
I've never had a matcha iced tea.
He has never eaten a taco.
Babcock has never eaten a taco in his entire life.
And the look on your face, there's two there.
This is barely a taco.
It doesn't have lettuce.
No.
It's meat and cheese.
It's a L.A. street taco.
It's technically a taco.
Take a bite.
Babcock's first bite of a taco.
Take a bite, Babcock.
You gotta roll it up there.
There you go.
You got it.
Harvey, you take a sip of your matcha.
It's not a four.
You're getting off way easier than me.
No, he's not.
He's eating grass.
You're eating seasoning.
Take a bite.
Is that earthy?
You got this, dog.
You got this.
Oh, that's good.
See?
I told you.
I knew it.
I got free lunch now.
Do you like it?
Yeah.
You don't like the matcha?
Take a sip.
We didn't see you.
I did.
You wanted tacos.
You want to wash it down with some matcha?
Have a good Labor Day weekend, everybody.
