Dallas shooting leaves 1 dead in Lake Highlands

Chaotic scene in the middle of the afternoon as a busy Dallas intersection, a shooter firing into a moving car, the driver crashing into a tree. It startled people working and living in the area. Fox source Peyton Yeager reports. The road here at Walnut Hill and Plano Road blocked off for hours this afternoon and this Family Dollar parking lot behind me taped off for the majority of Labor Day. The manager here at Family Dollar tells me off camera the victim was a customer. He came in around noon, purchased some items and then got back in his vehicle and that's when he was shot. It's around our tree in our yard. It's blocking off the street. Everybody's turning on our street, trying to detour. Cole Hassel and his wife coming home from Family Labor Day to a crime scene feet from their garage. She thought it was a wreck. A white Camry with a dozen bullet holes on the passenger side at Walnut Hill and Plano Road. Dallas police say the driver shot and killed. Yellow evidence markers scattered across the Family Dollar parking lot across the street. Blurry surveillance video shows an ambush in broad daylight Monday afternoon, 1220 p.m. Watch as a white SUV pulls into the Family Dollar. If you then zoom in, a figure in dark clothing emerges and appears to open fire. You can see smoke and glass breaking as an employee at an auto shop ducks in the foreground. The white Camry accelerates, shots are still being fired. A wider angle shows the Camry travel across the parking lot, pop over a curb and across Walnut Hill where it crashed into a tree. The driver pronounced dead on scene. Seconds later, a dark colored sedan pulls out of a spot and starts driving towards the auto shop. Meanwhile, the white SUV is also backing out and takes off. This surveillance video handed over to Dallas police as well. Meanwhile, investigators focused on figuring out why the driver of the white Camry was gunned down and by who. Crime happening right outside your door is a little uneasy for everybody. No motive has been released and in Dallas police's original press release, they said a suspect or suspects fired into a vehicle, so it's still unclear how many people police are looking for. Again, no arrests have been announced and the victim will be identified once family is notified. In Dallas, Peyton Yeager, Fox 4 News.
