A man is dead after a crash with a Georgia State Patrol car in Tucker.
It started early this morning near Killman Drive in Bibb Boulevard.
State troopers responded to reports of stunt driving in the area
and it ended up with a trooper colliding with a pickup truck on Stone Mountain
Industrial Boulevard. The passenger of the pickup died.
Fox 5's Christopher King has the details.
It happened right here at Mountain Industrial Boulevard and Hugh Howell
Road. Skid marks and incident markers still
on the street after the deadly crash. It begins with
stunt driving. It ends with a young man losing his
life. I'm sorry to hit it. Georgia State Patrol says troopers
responded to reports of numerous vehicles involved in illegal
stunt driving near Killman Drive and Bibb Boulevard.
They be drag racing up through here all the time you know for
no reason. A spokesperson says the drivers had been moving around to
different locations throughout Sunday night
into Monday morning. They took off when troopers arrived.
The spokesperson says troopers were initially chasing
a white Chrysler 300. A GSP K9 unit was driving through Mountain
Industrial Boulevard and Hugh Howell Road. His vehicle
collided with a GMC pickup truck they say had
been involved with the stunt driving earlier.
Both vehicles caught fire. The trooper escaped through a window.
GSP says the trooper tried to help the people inside the truck.
Anthony Angeles was a passenger in the pickup. He died at the
hospital. He was 19. Man that's that's heartbreaking.
Saxon Jennings works at a gas station nearby. He was saddened
to hear the news. I feel you know for his family and everything
man I'm just sorry that happened. State Patrol says
Emilio De Jesus was the driver of the pickup truck. He was
taken to a hospital. He's expected to be okay.
Jennings says drag racers pull up and challenge him
all too often. If they want to do that they need to go to a
racetrack area somewhere and do it not out here in public putting
other people and their lives in danger. The GSP
collision reconstruction team is investigating.
The agency's office of professional standards is reviewing its own response
and the actions of the trooper. In Tucker, Christopher King, Fox 5 News.
