All right, good morning everybody. Welcome back to wake up here on your
monday labor day and the forecast holly could not be better. Yes, it is a happy
holly forecast today for sure. So I hope you guys are able to get out and enjoy
yourself. This is like perfect grilling weather. If you were to ask me guys, I
mean the day is starting off nice and crisp. We have a lot of sunshine spread
across southeast Wisconsin here, but we do see that there are a little bit more
of those showers and storms just off to our southwest looks as if those will
stay to the southwest. Especially today we will be tracking nothing but
sunshine, maybe a couple of clouds that could kind of linger around as well.
Looking at temperatures, we have a lot of warming up to do today. We're at 68
right now in Milwaukee. We're seeing a little bit more of those warmer
temperatures to our west 70 in Des Moines, 73 in Kansas City, 70 in
Minneapolis, closer to home here. We're all in the sixties itself. We were
seeing they're right at 71 and guys, no worries. We will be getting to the
seventies as we head throughout the rest of this labor day. We'll be there
at least by nine o'clock right at that 70 degree mark and we just continue to
warm from there and then from there we're just tracking sunshine and we do
got more changes to come in the forecast and I'll highlight all of that
coming up next back to you. Thanks holly. All right, let's get a quick
check of the roads here on your holiday. The good news, there are no
crashes to report and the map is completely green. If your commute is
anything like mine, it's going to be a breeze.
Milwaukee Fire Department responds to a scene on North Avenue. This was the
scene when our crews arrived earlier this morning. Milwaukee Fire says the
fire hit the first two floors of this building. They said the fire was
extinguished and no one was hurt. The details about what caused the flames,
that's still under investigation and buyers beware after reports of a new
food contamination. Once again, we're talking about produce here. A recall
has been issued on frozen fruit that potentially could be contaminated with
E. Coli. So check your freezers. This impacts a great value organic triple
berry blend sold at walmart's and they have a best buy date of February 9th
of 2028. Shoppers are advised to throw the product away or return them to a
walmart for a full refund. Well, Wisconsin staple is making some major
changes as quick trip is ditching its roller grills. The gas station chain
says they made the decision after a case study found that their customers
prefer to grab their food to go. Items that were on the roller grill will be
put into the hot spot grab and go section. That switch is said to go into
effect on September 21st end of an era, a quick trip. All right, a new owner
for the former chill restaurant in themes ville, the restauranteurs
behind saffron in the third ward and I and downtown Milwaukee announced that
they have purchased this building. So you might remember that the chill had
a massive fire in 2020 that destroyed the previous 130 year old building.
It's unclear when this new restaurant will open for business, but I think if
it's like any of the Milwaukee locations, it's going to be very
successful. Okay, turning out to our big story this morning here at eight
o'clock, the setup is already underway this morning for one of Milwaukee's
long time labor day traditions. We're talking about labor fest. Yes, our
Stephanie cork is live downtown where that parade is set to step off later
this morning.
Hey, good morning. This is Zeidler Union Square where the parade is
actually set to step off at 11. But you'll see behind me, the work is
already underway and things are already happening. There's workers, volunteers
from a variety of labor unions here already getting set up and just
getting prepared to step off and make their way through downtown. Now, some
arrived as early as six a.m. This morning, we talked with the organizers
behind this tradition who say it's actually one of the largest free labor
day celebrations in the country. The parade alone has been a tradition since
1983. Now, Labor Fest 2026. That's the name of this whole celebration. They
say it serves as a celebration of worker achievements, a formal rally
focused on worker power, collective bargaining rights and solidarity. So
the parade again will step off here at Vell R. Phillips in Wisconsin at 11.
They'll make their way through downtown before heading to Henry Meyer Festival
Park for Labor Fest, where there's plenty to do. But take a listen to what
the Milwaukee area labor president says about what you can expect to see during
the parade. Well, today we'll be going down Wisconsin Avenue to Water Street
to Chicago and streaming right on into our free festival on the Summerfest
grounds. You'll see everything from iron workers to union symphony orchestra
musicians in our parade, firefighters, nurses. We've got the whole gamut. So
again, this parade, which steps off in just a few hours from now, is really
just the beginning of Labor Fest right at Henry Meyer Festival Park. You could
expect live music activities that are family friendly for kids, the whole
family food raffles, a car show and just so much more. Again, they'll be
making their way through downtown here and then heading straight to the gates
at Henry Meyer Festival Park for doors open, um, for Labor Fest. So you could
bring the friends, the family, the kids and go have fun, eat some food and also
celebrate Labor Labor Day and really the backbone of this holiday and one of
its longtime traditions. Back to you guys in studio stuff. Thank you. Yeah,
things are really picking up over there. Full day planned as well. Gonna be a
good time. All right. Well, still to come here on wake up, a new name is
floated for one of the 50 states and President Trump is weighing in on that
change. Okay, this is interesting. And after 10 days, a man is found in the
wreckage in Nepal, the latest in the rescue efforts following those
devastating floods and more cleanup underway this time in Mexico, the latest
after a firework explosion hits the country.
And, of course, we're taking a live look outside here in Milwaukee. Could
you be any more gorgeous on this Labor Day morning? Good weather in store for
today, and we're gonna want to enjoy it. Storms returned to the forecast
tomorrow. Fox six wake up news Milwaukee's most trusted morning news
show.
Good morning. Good morning. Taking a live look here at American Family Field
where the Brewers are taking on the Cubs today at home at one o'clock. And
then tomorrow we keep the party going with a brew crew Tuesday. That game is
at 6 30 p.m. And you can watch it right here on Fox six if you don't have
tickets to that one.
All right, turning out of some world news, we have miraculous rescues that
are coming out of Nepal. Survivors were pulled from a tunnel 10 days after the
devastating flash flooding. Rescue crews are still searching for more than
5000 people as that death toll has now reached more than 1300. Officials
believe the flooding was triggered by a glacier collapse. The U. S. Has
pledged $3.6 million in humanitarian aid and new video this morning out of
Mexico. You can see the damage from a fireworks explosion at a church festival
in the central part of the country. 10 people were killed. More than 60 others
were hurt. The force of the blast brought down a nearby wall. The cause
of the blast is still under investigation. Authorities continue to
search for the missing after two massive explosions at a western
Bolivia army base. At least two people died and 81 are hurt after those
explosions. The second of the two explosions damaged roofs and houses
within a two block radius. Bolivia's government says an investigation into
what caused those explosions is underway. Well, yesterday marked a
tragic scene out of Miami. At least five people were killed and five more
were hurt after a cargo plane overran the runway at Miami International
Airport. Fox's Amy Gallo is joining us live from Miami and Amy, what's the
latest with this investigation?
Haley, I can tell you the roads are still closed leading up to that crash
site. You can see those cones and the flashing lights behind me. Investigators
still actively looking into what happened yesterday. We're learning from
reporting by the Fox local affiliate here in Miami that three of those five
injured people are in critical condition and still no word from the
N. C. S. B. Or from Miami Dade County officials as to what could have led to
this crash. Right now, our focus is on the families, those who are injured and
the ongoing response at Miami International Airport and the
investigation. We're learning more about what happened and we'll continue
to update you. This area is still very active scene. So if everyone at home, if
you do not need to be in this area, please, uh, we ask that you refrain
from coming into the area.
The cargo plane, which departed from San Juan, overran the runway around two
p.m. Yesterday, slamming through the airport perimeter fence and onto the
road, hitting several cars, more than 60 fire units and about 200 first
responders raced to put out the fiery crash and save people who were left
trapped, including the pilots and co pilots, which were stuck inside the
Boeing 7 67 aircraft. Officials haven't revealed whether the two survived. Fire
officials tell Fox News Digital that the fire started in the plane's engine and
hazmat units were able to safely shut down the engine while also addressing
the plane's fuel leak. Those who live near the airport called it a scary
site.
I was nearby and I came right here and I looked and I saw the tail and there
was a lot of emergency vehicles that said in this direction, it's crazy in
here and I saw the plane. I was like, wow, it's like crazy. I hope everyone's
okay. The initial ground stop lasted several hours after the crash. Two of
the airport's four runways eventually reopened, but operations are still
limited, leading to hundreds of delayed or canceled flights during one
of the busiest travel periods of the year. The National Transportation
Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Association are both now charged with
looking into the cause of this crash. Back to you, Haley. Obviously a sad
story and something we're gonna stay on top of. Thanks so much.
Well, meanwhile, Iran's Supreme National Council plans to announce an
exclusion zone outside of the Strait of Hormuz aimed at ships attempting to go
through that waterway. Now, this all comes just a day after the U. S.
Military says it struck three Iranian oil tankers in response to a missile
attack on Navy warships. They say all ships entering the zone will be placed
on Iran's sanction list. Well, the trump administration is asking the
nation's highest court to intervene on mail and ballot restrictions for the
third time. This comes after a federal judge blocked new restrictions on mail
ballots ahead of the midterms. The legal wrangling comes as states start
sending out mail and ballots, leaving the administration little time to make
big changes. A new name for New Mexico. Well, President Trump suggests in a true
social post that the state be renamed to New America instead of New Mexico.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham was quick to disagree with that suggestion,
saying that it is not up for debate. Trump's push for another name change
comes just days after he signed an executive order to rename Lake Ontario
to Lake America. All right. Lake Michigan is looking gorgeous today. It
is like today. Honestly, even with temperatures still a little bit on the
lower side, I do believe that once it warms up, it's gonna be even better. But
I kind of like it right now. Like that, Chris. Yeah, it's not cold, but it's not
hot yet. It's my favorite kind of way. I'm looking at you because I'm like, I
know Haley likes the 60 65 range. Yeah, I think it's comfy out there, and I
believe it's going to be that way as we head throughout the rest of today. Now
we will warm up a little bit more. Yesterday we only got to 74. However, we
could get just a touch warmer today, maybe closer to 80. But don't forget, we
have a lake breeze that is going to kick in by the lake. So expect
temperatures by the lake to be a little bit cooler. Otherwise, though, such a
beautiful day on the way. It's a happy holly forecast for certain. We look at
those conditions right now. I mean, I don't even want to show you this
graphic because I wanted you to just see how beautiful Lake Michigan
actually look. That's exactly what they were talking about just a few moments
ago. How beautiful it looks out there, and it feels great to 68 degrees. Dew
points are pretty low. We're at 63 for our dew points and nice and calm wind
as well. Now, looking at those current dew points across southeast Wisconsin
here, we're all trending a little bit lower, so it is a little sticky still
out there. So a little bit of humidity does exist, but it is not unbearable. So
that is the great news of it all. So very nice dew points. And then we look
at temperatures even better here. We do see some areas in the sixties and
further inland is still a little bit cooler, but they will warm up
eventually be warmer than the areas that are lakeside. Our warmest spot
right now is Racine. Now we look at those temperatures and how they'll
trend throughout the day. You see all the colors that kind of come into
there. That means they're going to warm up, guys, and this is gonna be after
lunchtime, where we could hit 80 degrees before temperatures start to
drop. So expect a little bit of heat today, but it's gonna be perfect
grilling. Whether it's not gonna be scolding or scorching hot, I should say
outdoors, but definitely still want to make sure you're staying hydrated and
don't forget the sunscreen because we will get plenty of sunshine today. But
overall, a perfect Labor Day lines up for us compared to what we saw last
week, where it was waking up in the morning with a bunch of storms. Not the
case for us this time. We look at our satellite and radar nice and quiet
across the entire state here. We look off to our southwest there. There are a
few of those showers and storms that we're tracking, but that looks to stay
to our south as it continues to get closer. We won't really track any rain
until late tomorrow. This is a look at our sky vision plus. So throughout
today, it is gonna stay nice outside. We could get a little bit more of
those clouds to build into the area. And as we head into Tuesday's forecast, we
will start the morning off with a little bit of cloud cover, a little bit
of sunshine, so it'll be a mixture of sunshine and clouds, but mainly clouds
to stick around. As we get towards the afternoon, we will be dry, but we'll
start to see in track a little bit more of that rain. That rain comes in as
early as about five o'clock. It lasts through the rest of the evening of
Tuesday. And then as we head into early Wednesday morning, that is where we
finish off with the rain. That's gonna be where another front to another
frontal boundary comes in. So we'll be warm in the eighties today and
Wednesday is looking to be in the eighties as well. And then from there we
are going to be taking it down a notch as that cold front moves through. It is
gonna drop those temperatures just a little bit, but more sunshine to come.
We're just tracking a little bit of rain today tomorrow into Wednesday and
then again on Saturday. Our homes hold the story of our lives and renewal by
Anderson windows. They're built to be there with you through every chapter.
They treasure the small moments,
the ups and downs life gives us.
They're there through it all. Start your next chapter with windows that last
Fox six wake up news Milwaukee's most trusted morning news show. All right.
Well, if you're looking for something fun to do today, uh, you should head
down to Franklin. Yeah, they've got a festival going on today. There's also
labor fest downtown. I think other folks are maybe out on the boats today.
Whatever you have planned, your weather for it is going to be near perfect.
Well, there's a fun day planned for folks in Franklin this morning. The ST
martin's fair is happening right now, and with it, they're showing off their
swag. Yes, there's all kinds of vendors and shopping that you can get into down
there in Franklin and wiki wears has ST martin's fair clothing owner Laurie
Domzell is joining us now live with a look at some of her creations. You know,
you always have the most creative stuff. Laurie, walk us through some of your
fun t shirts that you have.
Sure, absolutely. Well, the main reason we're here is for the ST martin's fair
koozies and t shirts because you know where it's all about giving back to the
community. So we give a big chunk of the profits back to the fair for to offset
some of the costs. And yes, we have so koozies three different kinds. We've
got six different kinds of shirts. And then, of course, we have all of our other
fun stuff here. If you can't make it out to the fair, we have a shop in
Greendale and we're located at 56 76 Broad Street. But we have butter
everything. What's not to love about butter? You know, a butter onesie. Come
on. That's adorable. So yeah, so we've been lucky enough to be vendors here at
the fair for over 20 years. We've been coming to the fair for 50. This is all
about food, family, fun and traditions. It's it's just it's the best time. Come
out and see us. There's so many great vendors up and down the streets. You can
get everything from soup to nuts here. Laurie, as a small business owner who's
local, why is it so important that people support you and other business
owners like you?
I'm sorry you cut out. I'm sorry. Oh, it's okay. Um, can you hear me now?
I do. Yes. Oh, great. I was just asking you, you know why it's so important for
people in the community to support small business owners like yourself.
Oh, it is so critical. My shop is based on all local small businesses were
about 95% made in Wisconsin. So a lot of my vendors that I have in my shop are
here. It's it just means so much. The money you spend at my shop stays in the
community. It goes back. We support things locally. We give back to the
community. It just means the world to a small business to support them for sure.
And you can get something too unique at your shop. I can imagine that you can't
find elsewhere. Can you walk us through some of your other items? Maybe
your best sellers, Laurie?
Sure, sure. We've got some. Of course, I'm gonna make Matt follow me around
the table, but we now have switched. So we do all of our own printing in the
store. So we invested in a direct to film printer so we can print stuff
pretty much almost on demand. But for the bourbon lover, we've got this great
shirt here. This has been really good for us. A fun one at the fun one at the
state fair. I almost wore this today. This has been super fun. Horrible idea.
What time? A lot of almost. Oh yeah. And for October fest coming up, we've got
our pretzel necklace with the mug of beer on the bottom. So we do a lot of
Wisconsin things. We try to, um, we don't do anything that copyright. So we
don't go down that route. But anything Wisconsin themed we love to have. We do
our Wisconsin license plate shirts. We do those custom for people if they want
their city or town listed. Um, we just try to have a lot of fun and keep
everything local. I love that. Laurie, thank you so much. We'll have to come
visit you at the same martin. Please do. Thank you so much.
We'll be right back. Fox six wake up news Milwaukee's most trusted morning
news show. Well, good morning and welcome back to wake up holly looking
gorgeous and sodas outside right now. Thank you. You ladies look beautiful as
well. We're all rocking these summer colors here, even though summer is
slowly coming to an end. I mean, it sure doesn't feel like it right now or
look like it. Beautiful sunshine out here, guys. And that's what you can
expect in your forecast for Labor Day today. And that's all across southeast
Wisconsin. We look at our satellite and radar, those showers and storms stay
out to our southwest. We don't have to worry about tracking any of that
madness today, but we could have a little bit more of the lousy weather
returning as we head into Tuesday's forecast, which I'll break that down in
the full forecast. But looking at our current temperatures right now, that's
what matters. We're at 68 degrees. We have plenty more of that warming up to
do. We'll get to at least 80 degrees today, a little cooler by the lake. I
must mention. So if you're gonna be by the lake today, do expect temperatures
to be just a tad bit cooler versus inland, but it is a beautiful day
overall. And we're really gonna say this way. How the morning starts is how
the day is actually going to end. But coming up next, we'll talk about the
rain that will be pretty much tracking for tomorrow and really giving you your
updates for the rest of the week. Back to you, ladies at the desk. All right,
Holly, thank you so much. Taking a very quick check at your roads. And I say
very quick because traffic, as you can see, is super light. Yeah, 43 41 at U.
S. 45 looking nice and quiet, quitting triple A. Things are gonna start to get
a little bit gnarly around two o'clock this afternoon. They say 2 to 5 p.m. Is
that three hour window that you should avoid if you are traveling home from a
Labor Day destination? Because that is when traffic is set to be the busiest.
So if you can get out before noon, I think you should be in pretty good
shape.
Well, Labor Day tradition returns today to Milwaukee. Organizers are gearing up
for the annual Labor Fest parade and celebration. And that is where we find
our Stephanie Quirk. She's live where the parade is about to step off in just
a couple of hours and stuff. I can really see behind you. Things are
starting to pick up. There's people who are kind of getting their places to
watch the parade fill us in.
Absolutely. Yes, this is either Union Square, where we've been live
throughout the morning, but you could see just in the past hour or so how
many people are here. Now we've got a variety of workers, volunteers from
unions across our area starting to line up here, setting up tents and gearing
up for Labor Fest again. This is where the parade will step off at 11 here
from Seidler Union Square, and they'll make their way through downtown all the
way to Henry Meyer Festival Park for Labor Fest, where there will be plenty
of things to do. We actually spoke with the organizers of this year's Labor
Fest 2026, the president of the Milwaukee Area Labor Council, who says
this serves as a celebration of worker achievements while also, uh, serving as
a rally focused on worker power, collective bargaining rights and
solidarity. Now, this has been one of the largest free Labor Day
celebrations in the country for so many years. The parade alone has been a
tradition since 1983. Take a listen to what the president had to say about
what you could expect to see just during the parade part of this. Well,
today we'll be going down Wisconsin Avenue to Water Street to Chicago and
streaming right on into our free festival on the Summer Fest grounds.
You'll see everything from iron workers to union symphony orchestra musicians in
our parade, firefighters, nurses. We've got the whole gamut. So again, the
parade steps off at 11 marches through downtown all the way to Henry Meyer
Festival Park, where Labor Fest 2026 continues. Now there'll be live music,
there'll be food, there'll be raffles, a ton of family friendly activities, a
car show, you name it, it'll be there for folks to come out and spend the day
and just really celebrate Labor Day while also doing it. So alongside that,
one of the backbones really of the holiday itself back to you guys in
studio. Yeah, you're absolutely right stuff. You know, we call it the reason
for the season at Christmas and it's also important to remember the reason
behind this day today as well. All right, thank you stuff and some gorgeous
weather for all those activities. Yes. Well, all of you have started to kind of
map out your Labor Day plans. You may want to be mindful of what or who is on
the roadways. Our Donovan Long is joining us now from our live center
with how you will be impacted today for folks who are traveling. And Don, we
know that there are so many people who are going to be out on the roads. Oh,
you know it, Nicola. Good morning to you too, Haley. Good to see you too.
Yeah, I want to give you a live look now at our roads speaking of. So as you
can imagine, as Nick said earlier in the broadcast, things are pretty quiet
and for good reason because we are celebrating a federal holiday today,
meaning a lot of you don't have to be at work. But if you do have to get out
and about, you shouldn't have anything standing in your way until around
noon. Okay. According to Triple A, the worst times to hit the road today are
between two and five. So I surmise that you should probably get out and get
some groceries done or some last minute activities done for the remainder of
the week before that time period. Because once you're sitting in traffic,
you will start to regret it. Okay. Speaking of getting out there, you may
want to fill up before you hit the road. If you're like me. Yeah. Labor Day
weekend travelers are facing the highest gas prices ever for this time
of the year. In fact, the national average is excuse me, 4 14. According
to Triple A, the national average has never been above $4 a gallon on Labor
Day. But here in Wisconsin, it is 3 87. Now, this time last year, the
statewide average was 2 98. And I'm telling Nicola about this earlier. I
filled up over the weekend at a gas station near my home. I paid for what?
4 50 something a gallon. That's regular gas. I know whoever said that is right.
Well, that's up, you know, and I think for folks who drive far to go to work
or go see loved ones. Sure, it adds up in my wallet was hurting because of
it. Speaking of other things you may want to keep in mind as you plan the
rest of the day. Most D. B. W. Excuse me, you guys. Most D. P. W. And city
of Milwaukee offices will be closed today, meaning no garbage and recycling
pickup. But the services will resume tomorrow. Also, no parking meter or
hourly restriction enforcement today. Uh, not a freebie because you still
got to be parked illegally here. Also, no overnight enforcement tonight into
tomorrow morning. Nicola and Haley, I'll send it back to you all. Yeah,
just be mindful of all that stuff as you get out the door. Lots of good,
helpful advice right there. So some new details now. Thank you, Donovan. As the
block fallout continues, the Watoma Police Department in Washara County is
joining several departments across our area moving away from the license plate
readers. In a statement, the department said, in part quote, the effectiveness
of a law enforcement tool does not override the importance of following
the rules and agreements governing its use. Our responsibility is first and
foremost to the community we serve. And let's take a look at the other
agencies moving away from flock safety. The city of Sheboygan and its police
department are looking to end their contract with flock in Milwaukee County.
Both County Executive David Crowley and Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson have
put restrictions on the use of flock systems. One county supervisor is also
calling for the sheriff's office to end its contract altogether. In Racine
County, the sheriff's office went as far as taking their 10 cameras down
immediately on Friday. In Fond du Lac County, the sheriff's office and police
in Fond du Lac, North Fond du Lac, Rippon and Waupon all intend to end
their contracts with flock. And in Kenosha County, the police department is
canceling its contract with flock. However, the city did sign a 10 year
deal with Axon, another vendor for their version of license plate reading
cameras. And while some drivers are growing weary of flock, these riders
put caution to the wind during the big unit poker run. Hundreds of riders put
up their kickstands at the Harley Davidson Museum, riding from downtown
Milwaukee to Fiendsville. Funds from yesterday's event went to Fisher House,
Wisconsin, supporting veterans and their families. Well, they weren't the
only group supporting veterans. Yesterday, Explorium Brew Pub in
Greendale hosted its annual Burn Pit Barbecue Backyard Bash. It featured, of
course, a barbecue competition and a community tasting in the afternoon as
well. On top of trying out some tasty barbecue, visitors also got the chance
to enter raffles for prizes from local businesses and sports teams. Well, a
group of local and national artists took over the historic Third Ward this
weekend. The 14th annual Third Ward Art Festival brings together more than 130
juried artists. Visitors got the chance to browse original work across
ceramics, painting, glass, jewelry and sculpture, or even watch some live art
demonstrations. Inspired by Broadway musicals and her parents' musical
talents, this sophomore has released her own album, and she's also played on
the coolest stage. Let's revisit one exciting Fox six high school hot shots.
I'm Aubrey Marie. I'm a freshman at Key Watson High School, and I'm a singer
songwriter. I play piano is my main guitar, ukulele. I noodle on drums and
bass. My dad played guitar ever since he was little. My mom was an opera
singer. If I didn't have music in me, I think we would have had a problem. So my
first memory was my parents used to DJ, and as I'm watching them, I'm like,
that is so cool. I want to do something like that someday. Writing became a
thing three years ago. My album is called Where's My Wizard of Oz. I wanted
a boy with a heart, courage, and brains. I came home from school. My dad had this
really cool riff on guitar, and I was like, this thing is so cool. I took the
guitar, and then I wrote the song on it. There are songs that are happy, sad,
breakup songs, get-together songs.
I think the Aubrey on stage has more attitude. The girl on stage just kind of
turns into such a random person. I'm like, where did you come from?
We played the Briggs and Stratton Big Backyard stage at Summerfest. A couple
days later, one of my favorite artists played the biggest stage there, and I was
like, I've played Summerfest as well. We're both playing the same festival together. That's so cool.
My bass player, her name is Erica. My guitar player, his name is Brendan, and my drummer's name is Tyler.
Volleyball. It was very fun at the time, and then I picked up a pencil and a
guitar, and I was like, wait, this is more fun.
I'm Aubrey Murray. I'm a freshman at Kewoskum High School. I'm a singer-songwriter,
and my band just played Summerfest, and I'm this week's Box 6 High School
Hotshot. A very talented young woman there. All right, Aubrey will be playing
in a benefit concert this weekend called Rockin' for Heroes. That's in
Germantown. She was also able to play at Summerfest for the second year in a row.
Good for her. Okay, so it is time now to get you set up for Fox 6 Wake Up at
nine o'clock. It's migration season, and a Wisconsin sanctuary is giving people
the chance to track monarch butterflies on their long journey ahead. And as
they're headed out, a country music star came in. Kane Brown headlining a free
concert at the University of Wisconsin. That's a good one there. And one of the
biggest movie stars is getting ready for his latest appearance. Gino joins us
live to talk about Robert Pattinson in primetime. Oh, I'm jealous he got to talk
to Robert Pattinson. But of course, before all of that, we'll be taking you
out to Franklin for the Saint Martin Fair. That is the perfect way to spend
your Labor Day. And hey, getting a nice little snack and treat while we're at
it. Hey, thanks for sending yours. That's being your Labor Day with us right
here on Fox six. Wake up.
Good morning. Good morning. Taking a live look here at M. K. E. I think if
you're traveling to or from Milwaukee today flying in or out, I should say I
don't think the weather is gonna give you any issues at the airport. If you
are coming to town, you want to have the cops. The flavors today look so
good. They have the all American cherry, which is cherries, blueberries
and vanilla custard. Yum. They also have mint chip. So classic. Enjoy your
well, the first football game played this season at Lambeau Field did not
actually feature the Packers. Yeah, the Wisconsin Badgers and Notre Dame
fighting Irish met in Green Bay as Wisconsin looked to start their season
strong. Fox six is Lily Zhao has more from title town. The Wisconsin
Badgers kicked off their 2026 season here at Lambeau Field, taken on the
fourth ranked Notre Dame fighting Irish. It was a tale of two halves for
Wisconsin in the first half. They hung in there. It was. There was
electricity in the air defense special teams contributing. But again, they had
to play a clean game the entire way. They did not do that. There were missed
opportunities. They gave away points to Notre Dame, especially off a fumbled
kickoff return. Notre Dame scored right after that. There was a 55 yard pick
six via Colton Joseph and from there it was all downhill for Wisconsin. The
Badgers, though, just could not find an answer for Notre Dame in that second
half, and these guys no moving forward. That can't happen again. 100%. You know,
there's there's a lot of good to come out of this, but there's really a lot
of bad. You know, we can't come out in the second half like that. But you know,
that first half of that first half team can stay consistent throughout the
entire game.
This could be one of the best teams we've seen in a while. I mean, it's not
a one game season. I feel like there's so much hype and so much build up to
this game that, you know, obviously didn't go our way, but we've got a long
season ahead of us and, you know, we've got a great team that's gonna come out
and come out, come out firing next week. The Badgers were really hoping to
replicate that magic that they felt here a decade ago when the Badgers
stunned LSU at Lambeau Field again. That did not happen. But what this team
did learn is they can get back to the drawing board and start a new season
that begins week two against Western Illinois back at Camp Randall reporting
from inside Lambeau Field, Lily's out Fox exports. And don't forget that you
can tune into Fox six tomorrow for another brew crew Tuesday. The Brewers
host the Cubs on Fox six tomorrow and one of baseball's biggest rivalries.
The game starts at 6 30 right here on Fox six. But be sure to tune in early
for all of the pregame fun. Of course, you're still looking for some Labor
Day plans. You could go to am fam today as well to see that rivalry on the
clock. I feel like it's a roof open. Oh, you're going today. But my friends,
yeah, I'm going. I'm really excited about the rival game just to, like,
see the people. Oh, like, go ahead with the fans. I know. I mean, I'm still
going to be going for the Brewers. I think that's just very safe with me
being here in Milwaukee. But it's gonna be a roof open game. You're right,
Haley, because the weather is gonna be sunny now. I do believe it may be a
little toasty in am fam field even. Well, if the roof is open, I think it
will be okay. However, I do still believe it will get hot, especially if
you're gonna be sitting where the sun is kind of beaming on those seats. If
you if you sat in those seats, you know exactly what I'm talking about. But if
you're headed out today, definitely gonna be a good day for you to enjoy
yourself, have a brat, you know, have everything that makes you feel good on
the game day. And then as far as our temperatures go, they're gonna continue
to warm up to for the game day. We will be a little cooler by the lake. Just to
you. Not too bad, though. It actually will be really pleasant, but probably
closer to where am fam field is and further out west, we will start to warm
up closer to the eighties. We're at 68 degrees right now with our dew points
at 63. Our current dew points across southeast Wisconsin, though we're seeing
some spots where it is just a little bit more on the elevated side. So 67 in
Watertown, everybody else still looking to be on the lower side of things. So
we're we're still sticky. Of course, we're still sticky, a little muggy, but
is not oppressive. So that is the best news for us. Now, looking at our
temperatures here across southeast Wisconsin, we really haven't warmed up
that much over the past hour, but we will start warming up, especially now
that we have that sunshine that's pretty much hanging around and it will
be throughout the entire day. We'll see these numbers get to at least the mid
to upper seventies. Looking at our temperatures here as they trend. This
is specifically for Milwaukee. So you even see here at least by noon will be
in the mid seventies will be in the around 80 after noon. And then from
there we do stay pretty warm throughout the day. Now, as we head towards
tonight, that's when those temperatures will be dropping again. But honestly,
it's not something we've never felt before. Looking at our satellite and
radar here. Happy Holly forecast is on the way for sure. As you see here,
we're not tracking any rain or anything, just sunshine. And that's what we'll
be tracking all day today. Now we do have clouds that could increase,
especially as we head towards later on today. And you'll see that here on our
sky vision plus. So as we make it throughout the rest of this afternoon,
the afternoon, that's when you'll start to see clouds picking up, but no rain.
Okay, but clouds, that's gonna provide a lot of shade for us, but we will
still get those peaks of sunshine. Now, heading into Tuesday's forecast, we
start the morning off with overcast skies that sets us up for the rain
because we will be tracking rain Tuesday afternoon. And then from there,
even throughout the evening, we will have that chance for showers. But
mainly the bulk of the rain arrives overnight Tuesday into early Wednesday
morning. So your Wednesday morning commute could be a little soggy. You're
gonna be headed and getting back to work. So just keep that in mind. Looking
at our six day planner here after Wednesday, really, as we go towards the
later half of the day on Wednesday, we'll get some sunshine will be warming
up as well. We cool off for Thursday with sunshine and we stay dry for the
remainder of the week. But in the weekend, that's when we track another
chance for some rain. But we'll be back to the eighties.
In the meantime, we're gonna take you back out to Franklin as we celebrate
Labor Day for the ST Martin's Fair. Carrie's Crispy's is one of the vendors
out there and co owner Carrie C. Slack joins us to talk about this big day for
the Franklin community. Good morning, Carrie.
Good morning. Thank you for having me. I'm so excited that you're here and I
have a feeling we're all gonna be hungry after talking to you. Tell me
all about Carrie's Crispy.
Sure, sure. So we're Carrie's Crispy's. We have over 26 flavors here at the
fair. We have over 45 at our store. But so we specialize in a big variety of
rice, crispy treats and new this year. We actually brought eight flavors of
our puppy child. So we kind of branched out there. Um, added added puppy child
to the mix of things. Oh, delicious. And I know a lot of these rice crispy
treats are very allergy friendly. Walk me through some of your flavors.
Sure, sure. So yes, most of our flavors today, all but two are going to be
gluten free. We do have some gluten free and dairy free options as well. But to
highlight some of the flavors, obviously it's the fall. So we have our three
brand new fall flavors featuring this weekend. We do our pumpkin spice
obviously to the season, white chocolate, cranberry, caramel apple.
And then after that we have our favorites like peanut butter cup and
s'mores, blue moon, fruity rainbow coffee toffee just to name a few. Well,
you're talking to a pumpkin spice latte super fan over here. So I love that
you have a pumpkin spice rice crispy treat. What are some of the reactions
you get? Because these I mean, these aren't your typical flavors. These are
very creative.
Yes. Yeah. I mean, people are usually pretty impressed and when they're like,
wow, you have so many flavors. I'm like, we've got 27 today and we have more
than that. Everyone's just like, wow, I never knew you could do so much, which
is really cool for me because I'm like, that kind of inspires me to make new
flavors. Um, I know some people that never heard of us, they ask like, oh,
are they just colored differently? And I'm like, no, they're flavored
differently. And I don't want to forget about the puppy child because I know
you said that this is kind of the first year you brought that with you. What
are some of the flavors there?
Sure. So we do have our classic. So that's just the chocolate and peanut
butter puppy chow. We have some more's birthday cake, tiramisu dubai style.
That's kind of like a pretty big thing now with the pistachio and the
chocolate, a peanut butter brownie cookies and cream. And then we do have
a couple pumpkin spice left. If you can get here fast enough. Well, Carrie, I
knew I was going to be right. Suddenly I am very hungry because everything
looks delicious. We appreciate you so much joining us here at wake up. And of
course, everyone can find you today at ST martin's fair. Are you back with
more wake up right now? Come on down. Thank you so much for having me.
Fox six wake up news. Milwaukee's most trusted morning news show.
Hey, everybody. Welcome back to wake up here at 8 59. Take another gorgeous
look over Lake Michigan this morning. It's Labor Day. So perhaps you're
taking the boat out. And if you are, Holly and I would love to hitch a ride
as well. Well, today is the last day to visit the annual Lions Fest in Oak
Creek. The event features three live music venues, lots of great bands,
carnival rides, food and so much more. Proceeds from this weekend will go
toward the Oak Creek Lions Club. Lions Fest is their biggest annual fund
racer. Very cool.
