All right.
The story. I mean, this is like a freaking soap opera.
This thing continues.
I don't like one day he's going to come back.
Then he's not going to come back.
Then he's going to come back.
Then he's throwing up the mound and he's not going off the mound.
Then he's moved to this list.
Then he's off this list, back to this list.
What is going on with Roki Sasaki?
People are asking me, hey, what's wrong with him?
All right.
Well, he got shut down a while ago and then they transferred him to the 60 day ILS.
But now there's talk that he could come back.
This is a seesaw battle.
It's like one thing.
Another thing.
When is this going to be official?
The Roki transferred to the 60 day IL.
All right.
Here's the story on the whole thing.
I mean, this is cracking me up because I've been covering the story from the beginning.
All right.
And a lot of people are saying Roki is a bust.
He was not a good pick for the Dodgers.
They wasted their money on him.
I do not agree.
I think he's got a little stumbling.
He's got a learning curve to learn.
And that's it.
So as Roki Sasaki continues to work his way back from a right shoulder impingement,
he was transferred to the 60 day ILS on Friday in order to open a roster spot for left hander Zach Penrod.
But we don't know a lot about who's pitching in the independent league.
And some people harsh me for promoting this guy yesterday when I was talking about it was a perfect trade.
But, hey, look, at least the Dodgers aren't sitting on their butt not making moves.
All right.
And whether you think it's a good move or not, getting Penrod, he's a lefty.
Lefties are quite valuable in pitching.
And you know what?
We'll see what he can do.
I'm glad the Dodgers did it.
But with that 60 day injured list, that's what Roki Sasaki finds himself on.
And plus, the Zach pickup, that's not an expensive pickup at all for the Dodgers.
So that's not a bad deal right there at all.
So the Dodgers are doing the right thing.
The perfect storm is coming.
And Roberts had some positive news about Rokim.
And I'm happy to hear it.
All right.
Sasaki has been out since May 13th, meaning he now cannot officially be activated until just around the All-Star break.
At the time of his shutdown, the team was uncertain he'd be able to pitch again this season.
As of now, at least Sasaki is feeling good.
Okay.
But you're asking me right now, like, Brad, what did Robert say on the whole thing?
What has us believing again, Brad J.?
Why are we supposed to believe again?
Because this Roki thing is up and down and all over the place.
All right.
The news comes five days after Dodgers announced that Sasaki had been shut down from throwing.
So he was shut down.
Check.
I understand that.
He had yet to progress beyond playing like catch.
Okay.
Makes sense.
Are you going to shut him down?
Because he's not improving, right?
You're not helping the situation.
I get that.
However, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, here it is.
Here's what he said.
The move is more procedural, which I had to practice that word, not lying, like three times.
Procedural.
And doesn't imply, does not imply a further setback in Sasaki's rehab.
In fact, Sasaki resumed throwing on Thursday, playing catch out from 60 to 90 feet.
Wait a minute.
Is he coming back or is he not coming back?
That's what I want to know.
Well, he can't come back at least till the off start break.
But you know what this means for the Dodgers?
And here's the good part about this.
This means the perfect storm is going to get stronger.
If Sasaki is improving and there is a chance to get him after the all-star break, well, let's go over the numbers right now with Glassnow.
We got Glassnow, right?
He's been throwing bullpen sessions.
He could be going on a rehab before the all-star break.
What?
Are you kidding me?
No.
I'm not kidding you at all.
He could be.
And then you got Snell.
They talk about Snell coming back at all-star break.
So, let me do the math here again, even though I failed it in school.
You got Sasaki who could be coming back at all-star break or right after.
You got Glassnow who could be getting rehab starts before all-star break and come back at all-star break.
Then you got Snell who could come back at all-star break.
That is why I've called it the perfect storm from day one.
Day one, I've referred to it as the perfect storm because, literally, it's the perfect storm.
Because when the all-star break is over and you get your three top starters back into the mix, are you freaking kidding me?
That's a perfect storm.
I don't care how you slice that.
That, my friends, is a perfect storm.
What has Rokey done so far this season?
Well, not a mucho, okay?
He's pitched 34.1 innings for the Boys in Blue.
He's had 24 strikeouts, a 4-7-2 ERA.
That's not why we paid him, what was it, the $6 million bonus.
One win, one loss.
He's been part of eight games.
So, that is what he has been all about so far.
And Rokey could be coming back.
And I'll tell you what.
Moved to the 60-day, and they say it's not a setback because he's starting to throw again.
So, you know, strap on the gear because this dude could be coming back, and it could be coming back sooner than we think.
But not sooner than all-star break because he got moved to the 60-day.
Okay, so that's the story right there.
How about Kershaw getting another win yesterday?
Kershaw K's four and gets the win.
Eight to go to hit the immortal 3,000 strikeouts for the Kersh.
Happy about that.
Here's how it went.
Here's the numbers.
There's the line.
He pitched five innings.
He got into trouble.
He definitely got into trouble.
Walked a couple of guys.
Gave up five hits, two earned runs.
His ERA has now come up to 3-3-1.
But he is 3-0.
You know what that means?
Could Kershaw get ten wins in the regular season after being out as long as he was?
It could happen.
It also means he is only eight strikeouts away from getting 3,000.
Could it happen in one game?
More likely to happen in two games for Kersh.
But one big good game to get eight and that would put him at 3,000.
That would be absolutely amazing on that.
Kopek came in.
He gave up a hit.
Still zero on the ERA for him.
Vesius stumbled a bit.
He had two runs, two of them earned.
He's come up from the twos.
Now he's in the low threes on his ERA at 3-16.
Yates, well, he gave up a hit, 3-9-7.
That is his ERA.
Dreyer, he got one strikeout, 2-79.
That's the ERA for him.
And Tanner Scott gave up that bomb.
Now his ERA has came up to a 3-7-9.
So approaching the four mark for Tanner Scott who got back on track
but then kind of stumbled a little bit.
So we'll follow that story closely.
All right.
Let's talk hitting for yesterday's game.
Tawny, good to see him get in the mix.
Got a hit and also got two bases on ball.
So he reached base three different times.
He's still under the 300 mark, 2-92.
That's the batting average for Tawny.
You look at what Betts has done.
Betts got a run, a hit, and an RBI.
2-55, good to see him actually making some contact and getting a base hit.
I mean, he gets walks.
He's had walks.
He's reached base I don't know how many games in a row.
Will Smith, Will the Thrill Smith, we should say, one run for him.
He had two at bats, two bases, two walks for him.
Taylor had one hit out of four at bats.
He's at 2-59 right now.
The big dog, Pajes, four at bats, two hits for him,
almost at the 300 mark, 2-93 for Pajes.
Edmond, well, he had a strikeout, four at bats for him, went over.
And Conforto, man, I hate bringing it up again,
but Conforto gets two games off.
Kim fills in for him.
He comes in and plays last night, and what does he do?
He goes 0-4 and gets a strikeout.
And now he has lowered his batting average to 1-65.
I think he got to 1-70, and he hasn't really been able to do much since that.
Got to like what Kike did.
He came in, two runs, two hits, like that, making it happen in a big way,
Kike getting on base.
His batting average, 2-14.
He hadn't had a base hit since like the first June 6th or something like that,
so it's good to see him get on.
And Miggy Rowe.
We got Rowe Haas.
What about that?
Three at bats.
He gets two runs, two hits, two RBIs, and he's changed his average to 2-4-0
is the number for him right there.
So some good stuff out of him tonight.
The matchup is going to be Irvin versus May.
May comes to this with a 4.46 ERA.
Irvin comes in at a 4-2-3 ERA, so very evenly matched guys.
Irvin has a 5-3 win-to-loss ratio.
May is even at 500, four wins, four losses.
May does have him on the strikeout, 67 Ks to Irvin's 59 Ks.
And if you're looking at who's going to play tonight, I'll tell you right now,
Edmond bats 6-6-7 against Irvin.
Look for him to be in the game.
Betz will be in the game, obviously, batting 3-6-4.
Otani bats 500 against Irvin.
Muncy will be back.
I've got to say he'll start at third.
It's not official, but he bats 3-33.
Roberts is no secret how he picks him on that, but he'll put him in.
Tao, 300.
And here's the thing, with Conforto hitting 182 against Irvin,
I think Kim might get the start and Conforto might just hit,
but we'll see how that goes.
All right, that's going to do it.
