This is absolutely UNREAL... Dodgers give multiple HUGE updates
Oct 26, 2026
This right here is absolutely unreal.
Major report.
Talking Shohei.
And you can argue this is not absolutely unreal in your mind.
But in my mind, this is absolutely unreal for the Dodgers.
Couldn't have happened at a better time
with what's going on with starting pitching.
But I want to break down the Shohei update on his pitching.
What's happening with that.

We're building towards that 8,000 mark.
Almost a full year.
I'm doing this, man.
Having a lot of fun doing it.
All right, let's get into that story.
This is absolutely unreal.
It's a major report.
And the reason, look, argue with me if you want.
Brad, that's not absolutely unreal.
I don't care.
Because to me it is.
When starting pitching has been doing what it's doing for the Dodgers
and losing four straight, the most we've lost in a row, okay,
that we've now come back and we've won two games.
So the fact is there could be an opportunity, if you will,
to get Shohei back on the mound sooner than later.
Yep, throwing, breaking pitches is what he's been doing.
Now, that's something he hasn't done.
Just think, he hasn't pitched basically
in two years to live hitters at all.
And so with this report now,
it looks like Shohei could be facing live hitters,
and he could be doing it as soon as this weekend.
Here's what he's done so far.
Ohtani mixed in sliders, curveballs in the bullpen for the first time.
He had a Wednesday series finale.
That was, of course, yesterday.
Dodgers took the win.
Since the regular season began, he's been on schedule
during a lighter bullpen session midweek
before heavier throwing days on Saturday.
Most recently, throwing 50 pitches up and down.
Hey, that's some solid stuff.
To me, that is awesome.
That is unreal.
We need him.
With waiting for pitchers to come back that are injured
is not exactly what we need.
We need another quality guy who can come in and start a game
and eat up like six innings or possibly seven.
So Ohtani moving in the right direction
or trending in the right direction.
And here's what Roberts said.
Okay, so let's take this with a grain of salt.
I'm a huge Roberts fan.
You guys know that.
Doc is the man.
He was spinning it a little bit more, talking about his pitching.
In touch and feel, said Dave Roberts.
I'm not sure what's to come.
Hopefully he comes out of it well.
and what as we heard was fine which is what he would expect
and then we'll see what he does at
Citi Field on Saturday it might be a little more progression increase
so we'll see what that means
the question was asked could that mean facing hitters
that was the big question that's what
everyone wants to know
and what Roberts basically said could be did not come out and say it's
happening but look the signs are there the signs are on the wall
and it looks like uh good news to
Shohei and remember the Dodgers were saying straight up
and down they're like nope not till
after all-star break would we bring him out
so then you start thinking all right all-star break
right do you realize what the Dodgers face
in the next four weeks they face six against the Mets
right seven against the Padres oh I'm sorry I mean
Padres uh three versus the Yankees this is in the
the next four weeks for the Dodgers.
And they start things off facing the Mets coming up tomorrow night,
and then you've got to look at that game.
It's at Citi Field.
And Kershaw is going to make the start.
How do you feel about Kershaw making
the start after his first start did not go so well?
What's his ERA?
11.25 after one outing.
Got rocked in the first inning.
Tends to happen to him.
But do you feel good about Kershaw?
I've seen a lot of negative on it.
I think you've got to run him out there and give him a few more chances
of what he means to the team.
Like, Brad Jay, well, how long?
I mean, I don't know how long.
I mean, three or four times, let's run
him out there and see what he does.
I mean, if he gets absolutely shelled four times in a row, four starts,
well, okay, then we can talk about it.
But there's no need to even talk about it until then
because he's going to be sent out there at least three or four times.
Whether they get tired of that and use him
as bullpen, we'll see what happens.
But he is going to get the start tomorrow night.
This is going to be awesome.
him. It's not not going to be awesome. That's
all I'm saying. All right. Let's talk
about what went down last night.
Well, Dalton Rushing, he got
in there, man. Got to play
a full game. Well, it didn't quite go
as well for him. You see
what he did. I think he struck out three
times. I think he had the hat trick. But you
know what? Look, he's a young
dude. He's just come up.
You can't harsh the dude. You know
that they're going to figure him out and how to pitch to
him. And he's just got to
make adjustments. And if that's
Not a big welcoming to the big leagues.
Well, that's a good one right there, the hat trick three strikeouts.
Tommy Edman, he was getting pulled.
He had a few strikeouts, too, as well.
Max Muncy, always a clutch with a walk when needed for the Dodgers.
But Teoscar, how about Teoscar just cracking that home run in the sixth inning
with a three-run shot.
Dodgers didn't have much offense up until that spot,
but, you know, it was just good to see him get that done.
And then let's talk about the pitching, shall we?
How did the pitching go?
Dustin May.
Remember what I said?
I was saying the other day about Dustin May.
I wasn't trying to rhyme that.
It kind of worked out.
I was saying that Dustin May needed
to kind of take from the Yamamoto start
and build from that.
Get pumped up from a fellow teammate.
Having a great, you know, no-hitter through seven innings.
And then now you're going to go out and take the mound.
And he did good.
He gave up five hits.
But in his defense, only one earned run
and had eight strikeouts for Dustin May.
I like that.
He looked more solid on the mound.
It looked like he was in control 100%.
So I'd like to see that.
Jack Flaherty came in.
He gave up two hits.
No runs to the bat.
And Lou Trevino, who's kind of gone under the radar a little bit,
he comes in and pitches a little bit over an inning.
Does get a strikeout.
And then Tanner Scott, you've got to like Tanner Scott,
responding back after getting rocked.
Came back and pitched a closeout inning.
That was one inning, and I got two strikeouts on the day for that.
So Dodgers nicely done, 11 total strikeouts, including the bullpen.
But Dustin May looked solid for sure.
Now, that is the big question, though.
What is going to happen with Kershaw?
Can Kershaw come out and represent
and do something good for the Dodgers tomorrow night?
And you've got to hope so.
I want to hear your thoughts below because, man,
sometimes I feel there's a lot of negativity in there.
and I think Kershaw needs a little positivity from Dodger faithful.
All right, congratulations to Dodger broadcaster.
He wins an Emmy.
Broadcaster Joe Davis, he won the 2025 Sports Emmy
for Outstanding Play-by-Play Personality on Tuesday night.
That's so awesome.
His work, and he calls national games, not just Dodger.
Fox calling MLB, NFL games.
They had a bunch of other nominees,
but he was the one who took the win.
And look, he's also the one that took over for Vin Scully.
So, mad respect, mad respect for Joe Davis
and what he brings to the game.
Here's what he said.
I honestly spent no time on a speech
because I generally thought I had no chance of winning.
I told a few people it's an honor just
to be on the list with these guys.
And that's the kind of guy he is, selfless,
completely, and didn't think he had a chance.
And, of course, the dude goes out and takes the big win.
So, congratulations, Joe Davis.
All right, three against the Mets.
That kicks off tomorrow.
Kershaw versus Canning, that is the first matchup,
Kershaw needs to bounce back from a very rough first start,
then Gonsolin versus Peterson, Gonsolin 4.05,
he needs to bring that down, Peterson a 2.86 ERA,
he's been good, lots of K's for that guy,
Knack is supposed to pitch on the Sunday.
Needs to bring that ERA down 6.17.
Looking for him to bounce back.
He's going against Senga.
He's got a 1.43.
So those are your three matchups.
Citi Field versus the Mets starting tomorrow.
And I'm Brad Jay.
I want to thank you for tuning in to Dodger Digest.
And always remember, as you go through your most awesome day,
to think Dodger blue.
And let's go Dodgers.
