with stories that matter to you. This is Fox six wake up news. Now it ain't more
agency saying farewell to flock. The latest updates is more and more people
are turning away from the camera system and the building partially collapsed.
Now the long road to restoration is underway. What that looks like coming
up. Good morning Milwaukee. We're taking a live look outside on this Labor Day
weekend. Happy Sunday everybody. Lots of sunshine. This looks perfect for
grilling. Grilling, chilling outside, going to a park, you know, whatever you
can do to get outside and enjoy some of this. Do you know what today is? It's
Sunday. It's our one year anniversary. Oh, is it really? Oh my gosh. A whole
year. A whole year. Oh, I think you're putting me on the spot. Like, wait, what
am I missing here? Oh my gosh. I love you. I'm loving the sunshine in the
forecast.
Priya. I can't believe it because they say good times always go by too fast
and I think that's exactly what we've had. Um, well, you know what? We're
still going to reminisce on our one year together and we are having a
really great forecast outside today. Plenty of sunshine, just some minor
clouds, but the sun is going to be one of the great factors we'll have in
store for today and tomorrow. The second is going to be the temperature is a
little cooler, which we are noticing statewide. We have a range of the sixties.
The warmer and more and more stairs off to our west and to our south. And while
we are currently sitting in the sixties and already 70 degrees in Milwaukee and
Kenosha 71 and Racine, our dew points are going to get lower throughout the
day today and tomorrow. So today and tomorrow it will be very similar
forecast wise tomorrow. It is going to be just a couple degrees warmer and
especially cooler near the lake. But it looks to be great if you have any
outdoor festivities for your Labor Day weekend. We're going to talk more about
the comfortable dew points on the way forward today and how long they'll last
coming up. All right, thanks. We're following breaking news this morning. A
large police presence at 37th and Biller. This was the scene around six
this morning. You can see the intersection is blocked off for photo
journalists on the scene since he saw multiple evidence markers that were in
a lot of the gas station. Of course, we've reached out to police to learn
more. And of course, we'll bring you those updates as we get them.
A big story this morning after covering their flock cameras with trash bags,
Sheboygan goes one step further as they look to fully pull the plug on his
flock contract. Now the city signed a deal with the company at the end of
2023 in a letter to Sheboygan Public Works in March, flock offered to sell
the city years worth of traffic volume, vehicle types and speed data. The
cameras were collecting. Now the city of Sheboygan didn't know that kind of
data was being collected and the common council plans to vote on terminating
the contract at a meeting this week. Now we spoke with one resident who says
she's hoping the cameras come down.
I hope that they will defund the flock cameras that they will approve that.
But then I also hope that they don't go with another service. And if we just
switch to another company, we still don't have that guarantee that our data
isn't going to be used for something else. The Sheboygan Common Council
meeting will be Tuesday night at six o'clock right now. It's unclear how
much the city will have to pay if at all to end its contract. We did reach
out to flock and as of right now have not heard back. City of Manitowoc is
the latest to announce it will be shutting down their flock cams. This
happened yesterday after agencies and Racine and Fond du Lac counties made
similar announcements. Friday, the city is blaming the company and not the
technology for the conclusion. In yesterday's statement, the city writes
this technology has undeniably been helpful in solving crime, supporting
investigations, recovering property and keeping our community safe. However,
it is also clear that block safety as a company is currently facing challenges
that require careful review. It goes on to say we want to assure residents that
this decision does not stand from any known local misuse, malfunction or
policy failure in Milwaukee. Officials are split on this issue. While police
have said they believe the flock system is useful, a Milwaukee County
supervisor said he wants to cut ties with flock entirely.
The demolition of a building that collapsed could take several weeks. The
wall of a seven story building at water and Bruce owned by National Warehouse
Corporation partially collapsed earlier this week. Demolition began
thursday and continued friday after the city issued an emergency raise order.
City records show the brick building dates back to at least the 18 nineties
and M. S. O. E. Professor says while we may never know what caused the building
to collapse, water was likely involved. The expected completion date is later
this month.
A new chapter for the former chill restaurant in themes ville. The
property now has a new owner. The restaurant tours behind saffron and in
the third ward in Aya and downtown Milwaukee announced they purchased the
building. The property had been listed for just under $2 million. The chill
had a massive fire back in 2020 that destroyed the previous 130 year old
building after starting from scratch and building this new restaurant. They
closed unexpectedly in November 2024 without an official reason. It's unclear
when this new restaurant will open for business. It's still to come on. Wake
up. A new show will soon make its premiere in Milwaukee. The next act
theater will be joining us in the studio to talk about their latest
production and taking you back out to the big unit poker run a new look
inside the event is bikers are getting closer to putting their kickstands up.
Well, and it's a great day to maybe have some coffee or breakfast out in the
trying to eat my breakfast right now. So excuse me, but it is going to be
beautiful today to spend a lot of time outdoors. We'll talk more about it
coming up.
You're watching weather first with meteorologist lisa michaels.
Well, while yesterday we had a lot of cloud cover and it was muggy, at least
temperatures were a little bit cool. We had a high of 75 in Milwaukee that was
two degrees below normal for this time of year. But today, while temperatures
will be very comparable to that, especially on monday as well. The
difference is we bring back the sunshine and we turn down the dew point.
So it is going to be feeling a lot more comfortable over the next few days. We
get back above average into the eighties by Tuesday and Wednesday. That
is going to show you that we have a front coming in and ahead of that front,
our temperatures typically warm, which is what's going to happen. Then behind
it, we will cool again by the end of the week. So nothing extreme in terms
of warm temperatures or super high dew points. But we are at least going to
have a fluctuation in both of those departments. I'll break down more of
your forecast coming up. All right, see you soon. Lisa, a decision reverse.
The Milwaukee County judge tosses out a ticket issued to a man for walking
along Lake Michigan. Police said he was trespassing. Fox six is Ashley Sears
explains why judge says he wasn't
Paul Florsheim never thought a stroll along Lake Michigan would end up in
court. I have walked on that beach, you know, thousands of times. But for
the last year, it's a legal battle. He's been fighting. I was angry, you
know, not just with the property owner, but really with the village that they
were, they were doing this. Police ticketed Florsheim for trespassing on
private property when he was out for a walk with his dogs just north of
Atwater Beach. I was just exercising, you know what, what's my right and
and everybody's right. Florsheim fought the ticket, but a municipal
court ordered him to pay the $313. He decided to appeal this time backed by
the Midwest environmental advocates. Paul was within his public trust
rights to be walking along the shore of Lake Michigan below the ordinary high
watermark. His attorneys argued Florsheim was protected by the public
trust doctrine and state constitution explaining the land below the high
watermark isn't owned by anyone. Thursday, a judge agreed they shouldn't
issue tickets for taking a walk on the beach. Florsheim hopes the ruling on
his walk is a step in the right direction for other cases just like
this. The beach in general along Lake Michigan should be open to all of us.
He wanted this case to go to the state Supreme Court so it would create law.
And while that didn't happen, he wants this ruling to encourage people to
pursue the issue either with legislation or at the state's highest
court reporting along Lake Michigan. Ashley Sears, Fox six News.
Time now, 8 13 in just a few hours, bikers will be putting up their
kickstands for the 19th big unit poker run. The ride goes from the Harley
Davidson Museum to Suburban Harley Davidson in Thamesville and joining us
live is the events coordinator for Suburban Harley Davidson, Aaron hoops.
Good morning.
Good morning. Thank you so much for having me. Yeah, what a wonderful day
after the last couple of days of Milwaukee weather in Wisconsin, whether
in general the sun is out, this is gorgeous weather to go riding. So let's
bring on the day. I know you got your shades on. We love to see it. What is
in store as the events coordinator? What fun? The weather is on your side.
What fun do you have planned for people?
Yeah, so we've been going thursday, friday, saturday and now today for
sunday for the big unit poker run with the ride home. Um, we've had live music,
food vendors, parts vendors out on our lot. We're gonna have premium parking
for all the ride members that come in. And if you just want to enjoy the
festivities after the fact, so it's gonna be a great time. We look forward
to it and yeah, it should be good. And can people who obviously it's for the
riders, the people who don't ride, are they still allowed to join in on the
festivities?
Yes, we encourage it. Um, I know they want to just raise as much money as
they can to help out as many people as they can because all the money stays in
Wisconsin. That's the biggest part. We get to help people that could be your
neighbors, um, friends, family members. It's, it's what, what more would you
want to do? And how did you guys all end? How did you end up teaming up with
the foundation?
Yeah. So it happened about a year ago that we had talked to bill michaels. He
had laid out this envision of a plan and he had said at that time it was
years away from his 20th anniversary of the big unit poker run. Um, and we
were just ecstatic. We wanted to jump on board. Um, my grandpa Wayne and my
grandma joan who started the dealership 51 years ago have always had a chance
to give back to the community. So when he, when bill came to us about this
and wanting to help, um, we jumped on it immediately and we, we couldn't say
no. Uh, it's, it's just an awesome opportunity, um, to help out. Um, bill
is a great person, a character in the sense of he's always happy, willing to
talk to people. Even if you may have a different opinion, he wants to hear it
and have that conversation. You can't say no to a great call. Thank you so
much Aaron for joining us live this morning on the weekend. Wake up. We're
gonna check back in with you guys around 8 45 or so have an absolutely
fantastic time. I can hear those engines roaring already. Have fun. Yeah,
they're rolling in. So thank you so much for having me and yeah, have a
wonderful weekend. You too. Have fun. Hey, he pretty much gave us the
forecast spot on after everything we've experienced. Yeah, they know thursday
friday. I know you were working, I was sleeping in because yeah, you were
definitely not up when I was away. Tom and I were up at the same time to cross
shifts because we had severe storms, which rarely happens. Um, but a lot of
people were without power that had damage and they might still be
recovering. Yeah, I will say that with the good weather though, you will have
great conditions. Maybe if you are going to be recovering from some of the
storm damage that we had wrapping up the week, we will look to be calm and
not have storms in the forecast really for the next several days and maybe you
want to take a break, enjoy the nice weather while we have it. I certainly
think everyone should do so because while the sun is out, we have a few
clouds, it is going to be cooler this morning, cooler overall today and less
humid for the rest of your labor day weekend. Satellite radar isn't showing
much again. Yes, we will still have a few hit or miss clouds out there, but
picture this across really the Great Lakes region. We don't have much
activity, really the activity that we're mainly tracking is going to be
well off to the west of us in Minnesota where temperatures are a little warmer,
the moisture is a little higher and that's where there's some showers and
storms. We aren't going to have too much of a concern if you're traveling,
let's say to door county north or south towards Illinois, things are going to
remain calm because of the high pressure. Now, as we dig further into
sky vision plus, we're going to notice that even if we have a few clouds,
we're not going to see any rain today and our temperatures will be cooler in
part because with that high pressure where it's located, we are seeing
easterly winds coming off of the lake so that will keep it cooler for our
lakeshore areas today, slightly warmer inland, but overall it is still going to
be a very comfortable afternoon and especially evening to where maybe you
want to get out and do any kind of grilling, barbecuing evening party, you
won't have any impacts to worry about as we head into tomorrow, which might
be an extended weekend. For most, we still will have really pleasant
weather winds will be shifting a little bit out of the south southeast, so that
could help warm our temperatures slightly and we will have a few more
mid to upper level clouds moving in, but we are not expected to be completely
overcast and we are not looking at tracking any rain on monday. So really
today, tomorrow, both good days to go. The change will come as we head into
Tuesday, winds then shift back out of the south to maybe southwest in a few
spots that really starts to bring the eighties back that increases that muggy
air mass ahead of our next front and then we'll be tracking some showers and
storms. There's still going to be some uncertainty on the exact timing, but we
could be watching some activity moving in late morning, if not late morning,
potentially the afternoon and evening. But it's Tuesday and Wednesday that
looks to be the main time frame for some showers and thunderstorms in the
forecast. Well, we'll be tracking that closely. We aren't looking at widespread
severe weather or anything. It's all going to be about the calm conditions
today, tomorrow and the temperatures were already 70 Milwaukee and Kenosha
71 in Racine and inland areas still a little bit cooler in the low to mid
sixties. But enjoy it because today are highs looking to be right where
they should be. A range of the seventies again, low to mid seventies
near the lakefront because of that lake breeze will also have the lake breeze
in effect tomorrow for Labor Day. Then we heat things up watching the active
weather Tuesday, Wednesday and then looking to have more cool and
comfortable conditions by thursday and friday. Think of her time now is 8 22.
You see the sunshine there. Happy Labor Day weekend folks. It's gonna be
in the mid to low seventies today. And Lisa says more of the same tomorrow,
which is a good thing. If we want to get out, grill, maybe walk the dog,
just enjoy our three day weekend. Some of us are here though. And all for the
reason that exec theater, they're also here. They're kicking off their new
season with a delightful comedy between two orthodox jewish teens. It's called
Trey. I'm doing that right, right? Yes, right. Correct. And it's making its
Wisconsin premier later this month. I'm here to join us as the director,
at least Edelman and marketing director A. J. Magoon, who is making his debut
on the main, I'm usually over, I'm usually sitting right off. I'm so
excited. And today I'm actually on camera. Yeah. So this is, I knew you
weren't that speed. Look at me. I've, I've been, I've been working at next
act for six years. Um, and they, and I, and I mean, I've, I've, I've been an
actor as well. Yeah, they've allowed me to audition. Uh, and, and this time it
worked out. So I'm also, I'm making my on stage debut after, after six years
behind the scenes, you're like, you're just shining so bright. Tell me how
does that feel? Because I honestly, A. J. You guys don't know he, you always
reach out, you're, you're letting us know what you guys are producing,
what's coming up the next production. And now here you are starring in the
latest production. So tell us about trade, tell us about your character.
Absolutely. So, so trey is a wonderful play by Lindsay joel. It's a sort of
buddy comedy between two orthodox jewish teenagers in 1990s new york,
their hub odd specifically and, and they're very focused on outreach. So
they're driving a hertz rental RV around, around brooklyn and manhattan
in the nineties called the mitzvah tank. Oh wow. And they're trying to get other
jewish people in new york to do mitzvahs to do good deeds. Um, and I play zalmi
who's one of the, one of the two. And uh, he is, uh, he's, he's, he's, he's
driving around new york with his best friend. He's having a great time, but
he's also, he's starting to get a little bit more interested in the secular
world and rock and roll and roller skating and things that are, that are
creating a kind of tension between his, his faith and his, and his friendships
and the things that he's interested in, in exploring in life. And you know,
at least I want to talk to you about this production too. I've been to at
least two or three now. The thing that I love is it's so intimate. What is it
like directing this? Because this is your directing debut as well. So
congratulations to you too. Thank you. Yeah, it's my directing debut at next
act theater. I've directed all over the city and nationally too, but I'm so
happy to be directing um, on a stage that I've acted a lot and to have aj in
the cast. I love this play. It's, it's trace which uh, in yiddish translates
to on kosher or sort of outside the boundaries of what is allowed. Um, and
I have never in my life, in my professional career laughed more than
in this rehearsal rehearsal hall. Yeah. Yeah. It's a funny play. It is such a
funny play, but it's not like a sticky or slapstick comedy. It's funny because
these two boys are out in the world for the first time growing up, learning new
things, discovering what they want to be and also what they don't want to be. We
cast a really wide net for casting. We look, we look across the country, but we
also look locally and I kept looking over at A. J. Magoon. I kept going, I
kept going next to each other. I'm also associate artistic director. Okay, wow.
You do it all. Yeah, I kept going. I kept going. I'm looking for an A. J.
Magoon. I'm looking for a puppy dog. I'm looking for someone who is in a
wonderful, charming way, earnest and honest and won't make fun of of these
boys who are learning new things for the first time. I'm literally on the edge
of my seat. Okay, you're gonna love this. Give us the details. When can people go
see Trave? Yeah. And where can they get their ticket? Absolutely. So first preview is
September 16th. It opens officially on the 18th of September and then it runs
through October 4th. Yeah. And people can go to nextact.org. That's the website
where they can call the ticket office and they can get their tickets that way.
And I always ask, how do you want people to feel when they leave this? I want them
to be charmed. I want them to see these Orthodox Jewish boys and go, if at first,
you know, the beards and the yarmulkes and the presentation of them feel like
they are the other by the end, I want them to see themselves in these, in this
play about growing up, learning new things and learning what you want to be
in the world. The big thing that we talk about, the big thing in the script and
that we've been talking about a lot in the rehearsal room is acts of love. This
play is about people even, even in their hardest circumstances, choosing to
express love, choosing to try to find the kind thing, the right thing to do. And so
I mean, I think that it's really nice right now, especially when the world can
feel hard. It's really nice to see a play about even when people are struggling,
they're trying so hard to be kind to each other. And I just, I just think
that's really nice. Okay, you found the perfect puffy dog. Thank you both for
being here with us. We really appreciate it. Trace, go see it now. You can find
this video to watch it back for all the details on Fox six now dot com. We'll be
right back after the break with stories that matter to you. This is Fox six
wake up news.
Well, it's sunday morning. Thanks for waking up with us on what really is a
great start to the day today. Lots of sunshine looks very different than
yesterday and our temperatures are already hitting the 70 degree mark now.
Areas that are in the seventies is Milwaukee down the racine in Kenosha
southeast wind at seven miles an hour. Areas inland are still a little bit
cooler in the low to mid sixties. But what we are seeing change today is our
dew points that are going to be going down. Our pressure is going to be going
up. High pressure and control is changing our winds. That overall is
also going to be changing our temperatures and our dew points. So as
we head through the upcoming hours, it's just going to feel better and
better. We'll start to see our dew points go into a more comfortable range
and we'll hang on to that today and even monday. But we really start to
bring some of that added moisture back Tuesday and Wednesday as a frontal
boundary heads our way. Then behind it, we will look to see some more
comfortable conditions returned by the end of the week. So the heat, the
humidity that's on the way is only here for the short term. We'll break down
more details coming up shortly for you. All right, see you soon. Lisa. One
Iranian oil tanker is destroyed and two more are disabled following new U. S.
military strikes. The Pentagon says the strikes are in response to Iran
targeting U. S. Navy warships and aircraft carrier and a destroyer evaded
multiple Iranian attacks while patrolling in the region. No U. S.
personnel were heard. Experts call this a dangerous escalation and Iran is
warning that strikes will be more severe if the U. S. Continues
interfering with Iranian shipping to the war in Ukraine. Russian Ukraine
both agreeing to pause strikes on Kiev in Moscow as U. S. Envoys meet for
peace talks this weekend. Steve Whitcoff and Jerry Kushner met with
Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow yesterday. These are the invoice
first known talks with Putin since January. Today, the two will travel to
Kiev to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Peace efforts have
been a deadlock for months as both countries wrap up attacks. After decades
of colonialism, a new generation of interest around African languages is
emerging, with many Africans aiming for a deeper understanding of their
identities. In Nigeria, the television show called must so involved, meaning
do not speak English promotes using native African mother tongues. If you
slip and use English, you lose some cash prices. The idea is to encourage
use of African languages, often overtaken by English.
If massively were started in maybe like 10 years ago, it wouldn't have been
what it is now. But when the age of cultural resurgence, people want to go
back to the root. The first generation, second generation, third generation,
everyone want to know why, uh, where they're from. And so it's timely. The
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization says Africa
is home to between 1500 and 3000 languages across 54 countries. A new
item on Chipotle is menu inspired by food hacks on social media. Chili lime
chips are now available in Chipotle restaurants. Chipotle says it's chili
lime chips were inspired by seeing guests online, taking their Chipotle
orders and dumping them into the package chips. The chips became
available to all on September 4th. It's a hit or miss for me. I may try it
again, though. Let me know what you think. Send me a message on Facebook,
perhaps. Meanwhile, Wisconsin is one of 16 states impacted by a new food
recall. Frozen mixes of strawberries, blackberries and blueberries sold at
Walmart have been recalled due to concerns over E. Coli contamination.
The great value organic triple berry blend have a best by date of February
9th, 2028. Shoppers should throw away the berries or return them to Walmart
for a refund. And Quick Trip is saying so long to its roller grills. The
Wisconsin based gas station chain says they made the decision after a case
study found that their customers prefer to grab their food to go instead of
taking it off the rollers. Items that were on the roller grill will be put in
the hot spot, grab and go section. The section is said to go into effect or
the switch rather on September 21st. And after the break, looking to improve
your Labor Day spread while the cooking mom will teach you a quick, easy and
delicious recipe that will have you going back for seconds. We'll be right
back.
You're watching weather first with meteorologist Lisa Michaels.
Well, we are continuing to talk about the rain because, well, we've had a lot
of it the past month, especially the past week. We've now at least seen a
half an inch this month, and we are not anywhere above or below average. We stay
dry today. We should stay dry tomorrow. Chances, though, of showers and
thunderstorms pick up again Tuesday and Wednesday. Now, we're not looking
at hanging on to those rain chances by the end of the week. But when we start
to see rain chances back in the forecast for us, that's also going to
mean we could be talking about changes in other departments, and that will
mean warmer temperatures will be back. Our dew points look to get back into
more of a tropical feeling. So while we have some of the relief from the rain
and high dew points today and tomorrow, you want to enjoy it, we're going to
break down more on the storm chances in the forecast coming up in just a
couple minutes. All right. See you there, Lisa. Time now. 8 40. Last
weekend, the Milwaukee mile hosted a pair of IndyCar races where locally
based company Snap-on was the title sponsor, and the company's CEO had a
blast to Van Voren goes beyond the game with him.
This is Snap-on Tools weekend. Is this your baby? Well, it's one of our
weekends. You know, we're here in Milwaukee, and who wouldn't be? This is
pulse pounding out here, huh? The fastest race cars in the world going
around the fastest track in the world. You know, so it's a special thing. I
mean, if your pulse doesn't get up while watching this race, I don't know
you're not going to do very well in the world of vehicle repair. Is there
anything more essential than repairing a race car? We love to see him use Snap-on
Tools. This is a trophy that goes to the pit crew of the winning car,
because if you follow racing, you see that lots of times the pit crews can
screw up, and the faster the pit crew is, probably at the sides race as
often. And this is the trophy to honor that, but it's made from Snap-on
products. This box from Iowa, the wrench or the ratchet from Tennessee and
those sockets from right here in Milwaukee. You mentioned Milwaukee.
There's such a history with your company and Milwaukee, which you're
extending with the Milwaukee Mile. There's a power of place. So Milwaukee,
southeast Wisconsin, I think you could say, has been the wellspring of our
energy and capability over time. You know, we say it started with a spark
and the spark was in Milwaukee and that spark forged a dream and it reached
across the country in a world and the basis of it was right here.
Fastest cars. Well, Snap-on is the most celebrated tools, and then they're on
the fastest track. Exciting. And it's in our backyard, so it has to be. And
we've, you know, we're extended for multiple years from now and just
recently with both the Milwaukee Mile IndyCar. And, you know, so we want to
keep this position because we we believe it's tremendously consistent
with who we are. You've been in this for four decades. Yeah, not with Snap-on,
but two decades in the industry. Two decades with Snap-on. Okay, and running
companies. I wasn't here 105 years ago. I want to tell you that, you know, but
you're energized, Nick. I don't know if it's this. I don't know if it's your
business. I don't know if it's the future. Where's that energy come from?
Who wouldn't want to be energized if you were the CEO of Snap-on or a member
of the Snap-on team? We are the bringers of prosperity and satisfaction. We help
people keep their families warm and safe and dry. We're the bearers of pride
and dignity. We are the deliverers of dreams, and we are the shapers of lives,
and I can bring up examples that mean that. So wouldn't you be happy to be in
a company like that? Meanwhile, the Laplacian Badgers are playing at Lambeau
Field later today in their Shamrock series against the fighting Notre Dame
Fighting Irish. It's the Badgers' season opener, but as Badgers radio
announcer Matt LaPay says, it's not going to feel like one. Sometimes with
season openers, you play teams that maybe are not, you know, power
conference opponents, and you don't have the juice in the building. I think
there's gonna be a lot of energy. So, you know, how much that affects either
team remains to be seen, but it will definitely be a big game
field. You're in an iconic venue like Lambeau Field. How can you not love
that? Kickoff against Notre Dame is tonight at 6 30, and the Brewers will
be taking on the Cubs next week at American Family Field, which means it's
almost time for another Brew Crew Tuesday here on Fox 6. The game is at
6 30, but be sure and tune in to Fox News leading up to the game for all
sorts of pregame fun. And we're taking you out to the big unit poker run one
final time. The motorcycle ride will get started at the Harley Davidson
Museum in just a few hours, and the proceeds will support veterans through
the Fisher House, Wisconsin. The vice president of the Harley Davidson Museum,
Bill Davidson joins us live to talk about why it was important for him to
bring this event to the museum. Good morning and thank you for joining us.
Thank you, Bria. It's great to be here. And what a beautiful morning. It's
exciting. The bikes are rolling in and we're getting ready. And I know
obviously you played an instrumental part of bringing this event to the
museum. Why was that so important for you?
Well, the museum is a treasure chest of our history. Since 1903, we've been
based in Milwaukee, and I couldn't be more proud to have this great
fundraising event for the Fisher House located here at the museum.
And obviously you have a long standing friendship with Bill Michaels. Tell us
about that.
Well, Bill and I go back quite a ways. We he interviewed me several years ago.
He's an avid rider. He's active in the Harley owners group, and he does
wonderful things for the motorcycling community like this big unit poker run
to raise money for the Fisher House. He's just a wonderful person. And what
does it mean for Harley to be able to support veterans?
Well, it means a ton to us. You know, when you think of Harley Davidson, it's
synonymous with freedom and without our veterans, both active and retired.
You know, it's it's about freedom, and they did a lot for our freedom. So we
are very proud of our veterans, and we support them in a big way wherever we
can. Have you been a part of this event before just as a participant?
I have ridden in it before. Yes, and it's a wonderful ride to the Lake
country, and we're gonna end today at suburban Harley Davidson and many stops
along the way. Okay, what's in store for the riders? I know you guys have a
very scenic route for you. That's going to end at the suburban Harley
Davidson. When you think about just really the community connection,
obviously, Harley Davidson known all over the world. But here in Milwaukee,
really the heart of the biker community. What's in store for those who are
coming out to celebrate for you with you all for the veterans?
Well, they're lining up right now. There's a bike going by us. A couple of
bikes going by us right now, and they're excited to be here. The weather
is beautiful. We've got full slate of things happening at the museum with
custom bike shows. We've got breakfast happening, and then we go out on a ride.
We have many stops will be out in the Lake Country area, Holy Hill area, and
then we end up at suburban Harley Davidson. It's gonna be really fun
today. All right. Thank you so much for joining us alive here on weekend. Wake
up. Have fun.
All for a good cause. Enjoy that weather. Be safe, Lisa. The sun just
shining down all morning long. I love to see the smiles because they're so
happy. They're obviously doing this for a great cause for the veterans, and
the weather could be better. I know. And you know what? Kudos to these
riders, because even when there's rain, I see them out. Even when it's
scorching hot, they are covered, you know, in their letter for protection
out there, but they're just gonna be able to enjoy a nice ride for a good
cause. Today we really are dealing with beautiful skies right now. Winds
obviously calm from our live camera here, but just some very fair weather
cumulus clouds. And this is gonna be the star of the weekend. It's today and
tomorrow, both having picturesque forecast. If you're planning on heading
out, we really don't have much to talk about here on satellite and radar, but
zooming out to where the heat, the moisture is focused. That's off to our
west, causing some showers and a couple of thunderstorms in Minnesota. High
pressure has been in the vicinity, and that's going to stick with us today and
give us winds off of the lake. So that's going to keep our conditions,
especially for eastern Wisconsin, feeling a little cooler and a little
more comfortable as we dig further into that on sky vision plus again. Can't
rule out some clouds that will be with us at times today, but our winds will
be about 5 to 10 miles an hour. That is going to again keep things low to
mid seventies near the lakefront, mid to upper seventies inland, but no rain,
no storms and our dew points, in fact, are looking to decrease today, hitting
a more comfortable feeling. So as we head through your forecast today, you
should be good to go for any kind of weather events that you have or outdoor
events because the weather is going to be so calm. Now we'll still continue a
really nice forecast on Monday. Notice we have a little more cloud cover with
us. Winds will be more of a southerly direction, so that could heat up our
temperatures a few more degrees tomorrow and also gradually increase
our dew points a little bit. I still think, though, that Monday is going to
be very great and comfortable to get outside. But that changes as we head
into Tuesday. That's when our winds will move back out of the south ahead of
our next frontal system, and there is still going to be a little bit of
uncertainty in the timing, which we're going to watch. But we are watching and
talking about showers and thunderstorms moving back in as we head into Tuesday
and Wednesday could be earlier in the morning on Tuesday. If not, it could be
later in the day. But right now, Tuesday and early Wednesday is the main
timeframe we're gonna be watching for our next round of precipitation. Then
we look to dry things out and get a little cooler by the end of the week.
So for today, right now, in particular, we have mid upper sixties inland, more
areas starting to reach the seventies and temperatures will be warming today
into the low to mid seventies near the lakefront, mid to upper seventies for
our inland areas. Temperatures will fall again tonight, looking to be even
cooler, feeling that crisp air by the time you might be waking up Monday
morning. If you're an early riser will end up having again some of the fifties
and maybe some sixties with us, but looking to feel very comfortable. So
your Labor Day forecast. Perfect. We are going to have the chance again of
those storms Tuesday, Wednesday. Then more nice weather comes in by the end
of the week. All right, thanks. Looking for a quick, easy and tasty Labor Day
meal. Perhaps the cooking mom, Amy Hanson. She's got just the recipe for
you. She's here with a creamy cucumber salad recipe that will have everybody
at your celebration going back for seconds. Good morning, Amy. Good
morning. Good morning, everybody. I think everybody's gonna be grilling
today. We've got the big game at Lambo today and tomorrow, looking to do
something a little bit different than the potato salad, the pasta salad.
Maybe you've got to bring a dish to pass. This is one of my favorites.
This is a recipe near and dear to my heart. When I was growing up, there
used to be a big church dinner every summer. It was actually a Thanksgiving
dinner that they did in the summer and on the table at the long tables in the
church basement was this cucumber salad. When I was a kid, I just I couldn't
stop eating it and I still make it today. So it's so quick, so easy. What
use a little bit of salt. I went to the farmers market yesterday and got a huge
thing of those wonderful summer cucumbers. I peel them, but you don't
have to peel them. You can also use the English cucumbers that you get at the
grocery store. So this is real simple. If you've got cucumbers, you probably
have everything to make this. So I'm gonna start out with some sour cream
and then I'm gonna season my cucumbers with a little bit of salt. This is just
gonna bring out the flavor. And boy, those this the summer cucumbers right
now are at their peak and they won't be here that much longer. So I'm telling
you, you need to make this. Then I'm gonna do a little bit of white wine
vinegar to thin out that sour cream. You could also use apple cider vinegar. You
could even just use white distilled vinegar. But if you use the white
distilled, you might want to use a touch more sugar. Speaking of sugar,
we're just gonna add a touch. I don't want this to be sweet. This is a very
savory. Not too much. You know? Yeah. Unless you want it sweet. I'm not a you
know, I like sweets for dessert. Not a big fan of, you know. So basically,
we're just sending this out. I can tell I need just a touch more vinegar. Just
so it kind of is more like a dressing. By the way, lots of great recipes like
this on my website. Google the cooking mom or go to the cooking mom dot com. I
also make a really light cucumber mint salad, which doesn't have any mayo in
it. Um, if you're looking for something like that, great german potato salad.
If you're grilling broth this weekend, I'm telling you, I have a secret way to
do rots. Go to my website, the cooking mom dot com. Sign up for my newsletter.
I actually have free recipes in my newsletter every week. So then I'm gonna
take these cucumbers and I'm just gonna gently toss them. We're actually having
this for dinner tonight. We're making burgers tonight. So if this is, you
know, in the refrigerator for a few hours, the flavors really come together
and are even better. Adding a little bit of red onion just for a little
color. But any kind of onion you have will work. That's just gonna bring out
the flavor. Very, very simple. And then the star of the show besides the
cucumbers is some fresh deal. Also picked up some fresh deal at the
farmer's market. You can also get it at the grocery store and just a little
bit of fresh deal on top. By the way, I'm leaving next week for my annual
trip to Italy. If you've always dreamed of going to Italy, join me here. Oh,
it's gonna be so great. Follow me on instagram and facebook at the cooking
mom and you can watch our trip. I do annual trips to Italy, Greece, Port of
Ireland, Mexico for a winter getaway. Got a few spots left on my Christmas
market trip to Europe in December. But my trips are very special and very
different from the rest. I'd love to have you, but I cannot wait to dive
into this cucumber deal salad tonight. Hope you all have a wonderful Labor
Day weekend. Thank you. Two things. Never seen anybody chopped that fast.
Okay. And then the second thing that shaker, they have that little pepper
shaker that is gigantic from Italy. I bought this in Italy. It's my favorite.
So, yeah. Oh, wow. Well, thank you so much, Amy. We appreciate you for always
joining us. Be safe on your travels. Lisa's got a final look at your
forecast right after the break.
Well, taking another look here. Six day planner. Really beautiful today and
tomorrow. Cooler temperatures and cooler by the lake. Our dew points will
be in a comfortable range. So you should get out and enjoy our dew points to go
back up with our temperatures Tuesday, Wednesday. That's when we could watch
some storms in the forecast due to a frontal moving through. But once that
front passes, we will return to some comfortable conditions by the end of
the week.
Well, I hate to say this, but it's a sad day for our weekend wake up crew.
Okay, this is real. Now, a member of our team is stepping down from Fox six
to start the next chapter in his career. Andrew Sparrow is our newscast
director and maintenance engineer. Lots of time with this here on weekend
wake up. He has just really been an instrumental part of this crew. Today
is his final show with Fox six weekend wake up. Yeah, I'm there with the
Girl Scout. And it's so sad because Andrew does way more than just
directing. He helps, you know, with engineering aspect. He's a true friend.
He's just brings a joy to the weekend wake up crew and really during the week.
So there he is. He's a fixer. Yes, wave us off way. We'll miss you. We're gonna
miss you, Sparrow. Go sewer.
