Good evening. I'm Officer Calzada with the Fort Worth Police Department. B-U-D-D-Y,
Calzada, C-A-L-Z-A-D-A. We are here at the 2100 block of Revolutionary Way. Officers responded
to a shooting here earlier this evening at approximately 7 45. When our officers got on
scene, they arrived with the Fort Worth Fire Department and immediately started rendering
aid to a young child with an apparent gunshot wound. Our detectives are on scene. Early details
into this call, it appears that a young child between the ages of three to five years of age
was able to gain access to an unsecured weapon and shot themselves. The child was transported
to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased. As of right now, keep in mind we have
detectives investigating here and at the hospital and so as further information becomes available,
we will release that. The report number for this call is 260067402. I will take a couple of
questions but keep in mind it is early in the investigation so if you have those, I'll take
them now. Do we know who the unsecured firearm belonged to? That's part of the investigation
that we're working on and as soon as detectives figure that out, we will be able to maybe share
further information or see what they come up with. Was the incident inside or outside of the apartment?
That's what we're trying to determine. We do believe it took place on the outside of the apartment
near a patio. Anybody else? Any adults present at the time? We did have one adult at least present
on the scene and we do believe we have another witness and again you know what we do every time
we investigate, we ask for the public's help. If there's anybody that may have surveillance video
in the area, please reach out to us at 817-392-4222. Reference this case number and we'll
take that information from you. You guys always talk about safety, gun safety, but once again...
Right, you know it's early in the investigation to determine exactly what took place. Again,
we released early details but as of right now, you know, we just finished a month
in partnership with Cook's Children about securing firearms and using
gun locks on these firearms. We continue to encourage that. We don't want anybody
injured in our city, not just a child, but anybody injured from an unsecured weapon.
