A teen boy dead in Loudoun County tonight.
Yeah, the sheriff's office says that he turned
a gun on himself right before a deputy opened fire.
Fox 5's Bob Barnard is in Percival tonight with the very latest.
He was a 15-year-old boy who Loudoun County Sheriff's investigators say
shot and killed himself just up this street this morning.
At the same time, a sheriff's deputy fired a shot at the boy,
apparently fearing for his life after seeing a gun in the teen's hand.
Now, we had Skyfox drone up over the scene today just
at the Percival Roundhill Town Line.
This is off West Main Street, which is Business Route 7.
Sheriff Mike Chapman is telling us the 15-year-old boy
was reported missing to Percival Police last night.
The boy's father this morning reported guns
were missing from their house.
Then Percival Police notified the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office
to be on the lookout for the teen.
One of our deputies spotted him walking westbound here
on this particular roadway here and stopped,
got out of his car, went to approach him.
And as he did, the individual in question displayed a gun
and from all indications took his own life.
Our deputy also fired a shot, but we don't believe
that had anything to do with the cause of death in this.
I am very sad. I don't know, you know, who this person could have
been at all, but my prayers are with their family.
And I just, you know, as a community,
I know that everyone will come together for whoever it is.
We have a great community here, very supportive.
The unidentified 15-year-old was a student
at Loudon Valley High School.
Its principal sent a statement to the school community today saying
the administration is deeply saddened by the news of the teen's death.
Sheriff Chapman says this teen was known to law enforcement
but wouldn't explain how.
As you see behind me,
busy Route 7 has been closed here most of the day.
If you or a loved one needs mental health support,
there is help out there.
