A little look into a normal day in my life as an ultra runner, dad of 3 and business owner.
Life is pretty hectic trying to fit everything in — training for 100km+ ultras, running a business, being a dad and somehow finding time for everything else that comes with everyday life.
I wanted to start documenting the reality of it all. The training, the early mornings, the family life, the work, the good days, the tough days and everything in between.
This isn't about pretending I have it all figured out. It's just me trying to become the best version of myself while balancing all the different parts of my life.

Good morning and this is a day in the life of an amateur trail runner, dad of three kids,
business owner and someone that is just trying to grow in all areas of their life.
So it's currently six in the morning, we've got baby Huddy with us.
He's just having some milk because he demanded milk this morning for some reason.
We are on the sofa, the weather is not looking good but we are going to follow him.
If you're going to bring the camera along and you're going to follow me throughout the day
of what I do on a typical day where I'm working, training, being a dad and just trying to make
movements, the background of this video today because we've just moved in here a couple of
weeks ago and we are still in the process of trying to get things sorted, trying to move
things around. So you've got like half painted walls and lots of rubbish kind of everywhere
but it's literally like, it's literally like six in the morning,
it's like six in the morning, been up for about, been up for about 20 minutes.
Little man's going to play with his toys for a bit and then we'll be getting ready.
Nursery drop-offs, school drop-offs. For those of you that haven't watched my videos before,
I have three kids, one who's about to be eight, that little man's about to be three in January
and the other one is one, just turned one in August. So yeah, three kids. I also run a business
which is a hospitality recruitment business. I'll tell you a little bit more about that
later because we're trying to pivot, we're trying to change that business a little bit.
Are you having a poo? You're doing a poo? You've done a poo?
All right, let's go because it's raining. Let's go. Okay, so this is morning routine,
we'll be dropping this one off first. He goes in nursery about eight, it is about 10 past eight
and then this one off. So let's get on the road.
Rain is torrential, it's like a big storm at the moment. Hudson's got scared and got out his seat
and now I've got to find somewhere to stop to put him back in his seat. Now the
dad's going to get soaked. I swear, this time in the morning is just so difficult.
Okay, so the kids have been dropped off, obviously still got one at home, but I am
now going to have some breakfast before I head over to the gym where I work from the gym
in the cafe and then I just jump on and do some exercises as in when I can.
So for breakfast this morning, I'll be having a organic banana, I'll be having some maple syrup
pancakes, I'll be having a defence ginger shot. So these are just some of the supplements I'm
taking at the moment as well. I've got clean Boswelly, I've got Shilajit, I've got magnesium,
I've got multivitamin, turmeric, creatine and then that is a good night's sleep blend which
sometimes I take just to help with recovery as well. So that is what I'm going to be having now
for my breakfast and then we'll be heading over to the gym. All right, so here we are,
Nuffield in St Albans. This is the gym that I go to. I used to actually work here as a lifeguard
when I was, it's like one of my first ever jobs. I actually opened the gym when they'd done a
refurb so yeah, here we are. I'm now at the gym, Sarah's just going to go do a workout.
I've got my computer, I'm just going to start doing some work now for the next
probably hour. I've got some work to do on the recruitment business and then I will be
getting out there and doing my workout shortly. We're going to try and do 2000 steps on this,
kind of feel the legs too much, so not too quick just because I've got to run a bit later as well.
So this is more just for the elevation. Okay, we are at 1402 steps, 18 minutes,
so now just time to push on. 25 minutes, 2000, onto the treadmill. Okay, so now when it's on the
treadmill, we've got it at 8% incline. I'm going to get that all the way up to 15,
5 kilometers per hour and then it's going to go for a little hike. Okay, so that was a nice
little gym session. We didn't have a lot of time and Sarah wanted to obviously do a workout as well
so I sat, done some work in the coffee shop as you saw and then when she was done, I smashed
out 2000 steps on the climber and then done 10 minutes at 15% incline on the treadmill and done
about 1k in 10 minutes just sort of hiking more than anything. But no rest for the wicked so now
I've just sat down and done a little bit more work. I'm now going to go back to the nursery
and pick up the little man, the middle man should I call him, and then when he gets back
he might go for a nap, he might not but I've got to go out for a run when he gets back anyway.
Okay, so we are out on our run now and I've run out of time a little bit so it's not going to be
as long as I want it to be but we'll still get an hour. Okay, so now the breathing's
slightly under control. I'll let you know what I'm wearing. So I've got my Vega hat,
I've got my Ciccone Exodus trail I think they're called and Adidas t-shirt from TK Maxx,
shorts and vest. It's from Teemu and yeah watch a MazeFit T-Rex 3 Pro. What a watch that is.
And yeah I'm recording on the GoPro 13 black. 57, as I say,
tapering time so just trying to take it nice and easy. Oh, oh my god, oh I just twisted my ankle
so bad. Oh my god. Okay, it's fine now. Oh, the hamstring might not be though.
I love this little downhill section. Let's get all loose and just let the body flow.
Right, so two and a bit K in, heart rate's come back down
and yeah, just enjoy these trails. It's only a little small section
through the middle of St Albans but it does the trick. Minimally, slightly technical,
but not really, but enjoyable. So yeah, my hamstring's got a little bit of a pull in it
so I'm not sure I'm gonna go for the full distance. Let's just see how I feel.
Up to my favourite bit on this trail. Here we go, all the way down, all the way back up.
Here we go, get that done and dusted. I know I said that I was gonna go out for eight
but I just feel a little twinge in my hamstring and I just don't think it's wise to push it.
Tapering, as I said, so what's the point? I want to at least get to the race feeling
100% fresh. So I've got to drop 3K on a run, so be it. But yeah, that's all the exercise
that I'll be doing for today. I will be chilling tonight. I'm gonna go do park run tomorrow morning
with one of my clients. It's his first ever park run and I know that he's just gonna love it.
So yeah, gonna go do that with him tomorrow morning and yeah, so tonight I think I'm just
gonna chill out. Maybe I'll bring the camera out to show you what I'm gonna do tonight,
show you what I'm gonna have for dinner. It's like carb central at the moment,
eating and drinking kind of what I want. So yeah, to an extent. Yeah, it's a nice little,
if anyone is local and they're from St Albans, this is a nice little hidden trail. I mean,
it's only about probably a kilometre long with a little road crossing, but it's cool.
I like it. It's on my doorstep, so trail running practice 2.0. I'll catch you guys in a bit.
That is a day in the life of an amateur trail runner who wants to be, I don't know,
some sort of vlogger, runner, running vlogger, someone that reviews races, goes around the
country doing stuff like that, all the world hopefully. And yeah, that's just what I want to
do. I love it. I'm so addicted to trail running. I'm running and I just love everything about it.
So there'll be an episode two coming out, which is going to be more about me getting ready for
my 100k race, which is on the 12th of September. A little bit of what kit I'm taking,
then maybe, yeah, and then we will be moving on to episode three, which will be the actual run
and the race on the day. So yeah, I hope you enjoyed episode one. Please like, share,
subscribe, turn on the bell so you don't miss a thing and wait for episode two. Cheers.
