Can you feel it? The NFL season is upon us. Of course, you can watch many of the
commanders games right here on Fox five, including the season opener. But
there's a lot of talk about how the NFL is trying to appeal to female fans. A
new ad getting a lot of controversy. We're gonna take a look at it and we'll
find out if we like it or not. Let's go.
Welcome to the show. We're ready to go here on a Friday. Thank you. Just see
if you guys happy to have you here with us tonight. As I sit down, I turn to my
right and say hello, Tisha. Hi. Welcome back. Good to see you again. I turn my
lips. Say hello, Sharon and intern. John is back here in the house. They had me
first off the John cast. Absolutely. Every now and then I get a shout out.
Sometimes it's nice and sometimes I'm like, why bring me into this? Why bring
me to your best? It's fun. Just make sure you're still listening. That's how
I hold my friends hostage in the podcast. The best part about is I was
listening to it one day in the car and he drops my name apparently announced
me as the new sponsor. I mistakenly asked, Did I get drunk one night and
called john and say how much would name your price? He did. I'm waiting for
the money to clear, but you're good for it. Uh, glad to have you all here. So
let's fire it up and get going.
We're gonna start with only fans. Americans are spending billions of
dollars every year and it turns out D. C. Spends more on the platform than any
other state in the country. According to only finder dot com, nearly $275,000
is spent yearly per 10,000 adults. But here's where it gets interesting. The
spending apparently tracks of the workday. Then it drops off once
commuters head home. So intern john, only fans on the clock. I mean, I like
it for the creators, but the air nets. What is that? Oh, that's a thumb. Thank
God. Okay.
Instagram is free to. It's about to be Halloween season. So that's like tons
of free. Basically the same thing. If you're paying for adult content in 2026,
there's better ways to spend money, friend, you know, but you're doing it at
work. Yeah. And did we not just discuss me? No, not you are. Yeah, I don't work.
That's called a loophole. Yeah. Yeah. Yikes. I don't like this at all. I
don't like this at all. Right. And it is. Is it all adult content? Don't judge
me. No. Um, there have been people. They've been like comedians. They've
been trying to find ways to monetize their content. They're trying to. They
try to pivot. But uh, it seems like people go back to the default, right?
And doesn't it happen to like the fetish world as well? Like people post
pictures of their feet or their hands and things of that sort. I haven't
heard that, but maybe, I don't know. I don't know. I don't like it. You're
doing it on the clock. Do it at home. I just, I feel bad that I pitched this
story to producer Charlotte and because you know, she is, you know, her father
is a man of God and I feel bad like, like making her put this in the, in the
show. And then when I asked her something about it, she goes, I
couldn't pull it up because it's at work. I'm like, do not come. What
people, she's only doing her job. You know, I think what strikes me is the
fact that Washington DC is ranked so high. What are we doing? Right. So it's
like, I don't know, to each their own, but at the same time, if you're
watching basically like porn while you're at work, shouldn't there be some
consequences there? I don't know. I suppose it's good for creators, but bad
for employers, right? Yeah. Yeah. It's for sure. The hill too. It's for sure.
The politicians. Yeah, exactly.
Where are the are really long. I'm sure they're doing a lot of things. They
should narrow down the location of the viewership specifically. We're in DC.
Yeah, there's that. It's the hell.
Let's move on. NFL season is back, but Netflix's newest promo isn't exactly
winning over football fans. Take a look. All right, ladies post on to ready a
post. That's more my speed. Do you want a tick tock or do you want a real? Get
me in it. This is like a solo ladies. Let's just finish the day off with a
little bit of conditioning conditioning. I think we're good.
Netflix. All right. So to help promote next week's Rams 49ers game in
Australia, Netflix tapped influencers Alex and Ashton Earl to drum up some
hype. The videos wrapped up billions of views, but plenty are asking what do
they have to do with football? Some call it tone, death and tasteless. Others
say it's about appealing to all demographics here. So, Sharon, what do
we think? Like it or not? I mean, listen, it's not gonna draw me in. I'm
basically watching football whenever my husband tells you we're watching
football. But, like, I feel like this is genius marketing, right? Because for
the for the diehard football fan who's like, What is this? Get these girls off
my screen. That's not who they're targeting, right? Like, those guys are
gonna be watching the game and they're targeting the generation, the young
generation that maybe doesn't like football, but they like these
influencers, and maybe they have a huge following. So even if it may, if it's
clickbait and we're sharing it because we're like, Oh, my God, I can't believe
this ad that it worked. I mean, we've seen celebrities get pulled into
promoting football. I mean, John Hamm was in a bunch of ads a number of years
ago. He's a big, big L. A. Rams fan. Well, I think maybe I'm presuming no
Kansas City fan. That's right. But I think in this regard, people think it's
almost pander. It's almost dumbing down the sport a little bit. It's sort of
like I think the best parallel I can give her the pink uniforms, you know,
the pink jerseys like, you know, they sell the pink jerseys to appeal to
female Ravens for matters fans when in reality that they just want they want
the same jersey. Yeah, you know, my thing about this is I think women who
like football are gonna watch football. This ad is not going to make women who
don't want to watch football. Watch football. I do think it's gonna tap into,
you know, a different audience that, you know, we're talking about the
influencer audience. I like it, but it just seems a little silly to me.
Completely honest. I think the guys that are complaining of the same guys
that complained there's male cheerleaders, but it's keep the game
the way it is. Who cares, dude? It's not changing the actual game itself.
You're still gonna watch football fans the worst because we'll complain about
things, but you still watch. You can play about how much it costs to watch.
You still watch. You still go to the game. This commercial be over by next
week and we'll move on. Yeah, you're still gonna watch the game. Yeah, you
never complained about Aaron Rodgers. That's your boy. That's your team, my
friend. I might have put that out there. Yeah, yeah. Steelers guy. It's
gonna give something something for john and I to talk about quite a bit over
the next couple of months. Uh, hey, here's a question. When you walk into
somebody else's house, do the shoes stay on or do they come off? Etiquette
experts say there's nothing rude about having a new shoes policy, but you
probably should give the guests a heads up before they arrive. They also
suggest making people comfortable by offering slippers or place to sit while
they take their shoes off. So Tisha asking guests to remove their shoes
like it or not. I love it. Not only do I like it, I love it. So here's the
deal. When I go to a home, I always ask, would you like me to take my shoes off
and I always take them off and it's very nice that they have some slippers
handy to put on when people come to my home. I asked them, especially
contractors, I asked them if they can take their shoes off because there's so
many germs outside that you're bringing inside the home. No, thank you. I like
you. You mentioned contractors, the companies that have a little booties
that they put, you know, the cable company comes on and they put them. I
mean, that's very considerate. Oh, you know, if you're a service worker,
you're someone coming to your, but even yes, family friends, please take your
shoes off. I just think like it depends on the occasion. Like if I'm invited to
your to my house for like a thanksgiving dinner, no, like like a
dinner or we're having drinks or something like keep your shoes on. I
don't know, like it feels a little awkward sometimes or like I got to make
sure like, oh, do I, do I look okay? Do I have socks on that look okay? It's a
little awkward sometimes. It also depends how clean their house is and
your house is a mess. Yes, me take my shoes off.
Came through leaving the shoes on for my own safety. If your house is very
type a clean, I'll take them off this carpet. But otherwise, yeah, slippers
though. I don't have slippers even for myself. That's what it's like. Like,
what do you buy? Disposable slippers? Is that what you're doing there? Are you
buying little like, like paper, paper booties for people? Not me. I still my
from hotels. Yeah, I was gonna say hotels give them away. My girlfriend
bought me actual sandals. I don't wear them. I ask for them. They're usually
complimentary and they'll give you like 23 and you just use one.
Right. I mean, I had people over and I had, I have slippers. I have like two
pairs of slippers that I keep around and I didn't care about what my friends
were doing. But I figured for me, I'm going to be comfortable walking around
my house. I wear my slippers. I like those. You like these? Yeah, these are
called just I wanted to be comfortable tonight. Absolutely. These are these
slippers. Yeah, they're just all birds. Uh, yeah, unsolicited advertisement
there. I will ask kids to take off their, that makes a lot of sense. Like
when the kids come from outside, I'll be like, hey kids, take off. No mud
allowed. Yeah, but it's really dependent on what the occasion is. If I asked you
to take off your shoes, but it's funny because our dogs go and pee outside and
walk the dogs up and we like, come on in dude, furniture, get on the bed,
wherever you want to go. This is like my mom. She, she has tried in vain for, I
don't know how many family dogs to always try to clean their paws off when
they come in the house. And she bought the, the, uh, the, the carpet, there's a
little mat that you're supposed to dog supposed to walk on. It's supposed to
magically clean their paws. It doesn't work. It does not work. I mean, it's a
noble effort, but yeah, but I mean, it's a call. Is it a cultural thing? I guess
is the question here. Is it a cultural thing? Uh, when you ask people to do
that, going into your house bachelor. So for me, you know, it's fine. I don't
care. The house is dirty. I'm dirty. It is something that I always do ask
though. Would you like me to take off my shoes? I'm hoping that they don't. I
don't know. Sometimes it's like uncomfortable. Uh, we want to know what
you do at home. That's creepy. Hey, only fans asking guests to remove their
shoes right now. 41% of you like it. 59% of you don't go to Fox five dc dot
com slash line or scan the QR code on your screen to cast your votes. We'll
check up on it coming up later on in the show. Stick around like it or not
back after this on this friday alongside Tisha Shirin and I. J. Back
after this.
Jimmy shake it. I see it in your face.
All right. A lot of people back to school right now. Some schools aren't
back yet. But if you live in Montgomery County, you could show off your school
pride and help pay off student lunch debt at the same time. M. C. P. S.
Launching an online merch store selling everything from sweatshirts and
quarter zips to button downs and baby onesies. The district says the proceeds
all of them will go to drive down more than a million dollars in unpaid
student meal debts. Prices range from 20 to 53 bucks. John, you're shaking
your head. There's a 0% chance anybody is buying. It looks horrendous. What in
the name of like chat G. P. T. Make us merges this. They should have the kids
design this stuff. I saw a teacher's post in moco had no air conditioning
this past week. Classrooms were 80 degrees. Nobody's buying a long sleeve
moco this week. Why have the kids makes it looks like trash. It looks
horrendous. Also Montgomery County. It's like the richest county in like the
state. Where's the money going for taxes? I never understood that moco. So
we talked about, we talked about this last night on the news at 10 and we
were talking about student lunch debt, which I think it's on the one hand, I
mean, you have to, it all comes from somewhere. I think it is obscene
sometimes when you deny kids of the ability to eat at school, whether it
be breakfast or lunch and because for some kids that's the only meal they
get. But it's just this whole idea that, you know, you have fundraisers to
paid on student lunch debt. It seems like it doesn't fit right credit to
M.C.P.S. I'll give them credit because I think they say this is what's going
to go towards. That's fantastic. But um, yeah, I think it sparks a bigger
question, right? Like to your point, it's not about buying a sweatshirt.
Like, sure, I'll buy the sweatshirt. You know, it's very plain and boring to
john's point. I get it. But if there's a bigger intention and motive here as a
parent, as somebody, absolutely I would pay into this. But I think we need to
talk about the bigger picture. We should not be denying Children any kind
of food. So if there's any kind of food debt, we need to come together as a
society and figure this out, not be printing like T shirts and sweatshirts
to maybe figure this out. This is like unacceptable in the wealthiest county.
Yeah, I 100% agree. I think the premise of the idea is well intended.
However, again, Children do not ask to be here. They come here a blank slate.
And so I think that we should be providing them with breakfast, lunch,
snack, whatever we can while they're under the umbrella of the school
district. And this idea for this kind of, you know, silly looking merch. I
didn't hate you were a little too harsh. I think I'll back up.
It's super plain. Yeah, they should do some type of fundraiser. But I don't
think this is it. You know who actually did some really cool moco merch was
Alex Aronis from the moco show, who used to be an M.C.P.S. Teacher. He's
been on. Yeah, he's been on the show many times before, and he always was
wearing his moco gear. But you know what? In the grand scheme of things,
I get. I mean, I don't like see this. This one makes sense. That's okay.
This looks like what the teachers would wear, though, right? Not what students
would wear. Yeah, use the traffic camera money.
Use that money, right? Okay. Okay. All right. Just make sure. Just make sure
the kids are getting fed. That's the important part. Influencer causing
quite the surf the U. S. Open. It's prompted discussions about etiquette
at the Grand Slam. One group went viral for disrupting Naomi Osaka's match at
Arthur Ashe Stadium. Others have been called out for using bright lights and
having photo shoots during play. Two influencers said their credentials were
revoked after they posted pictures of the passes online, which, by the way,
anybody who works in media knows you never post your credentials online.
That's just that's rule number one. But Tisha sports and influencers like it or
not. Listen, I don't know if I like this, and I'm treading very carefully
here because I have a friend who called me last night and said that they were
going to the U. S. Open. And I said, Oh, did you run into some money that I'm
unaware of? And they said, Oh, no, you know, whatever brand. I'm not going to
say with the name of the brand. It's a well known brand invited me, and I just
have to wear their outfit and take pictures and post. And I'm like, Oh, my
goodness. And something about it felt a little like to me, just a little. I
mean, listen, I'm not against influencers being part of the U. S. Open.
I actually, but I'm like really into tennis. My daughter plays competitive
U. S. T. A. Junior. I would love to go to the U. S. Open. The tickets are
outrageous. Maybe one day we'll go when she's older, and she can definitely
remember all of it. All of it. You know, actually, a couple years ago, I went to
the U. S. Open because my girlfriend she she knows, like as soon as like the
tickets go on sale, she went on and she got like pretty decently. I mean, we
didn't have great seats, but this was like the one of the most amazing
experiences for me. I think, like for influencers, though, to be there, you
can't disrupt the sport like you just have to have good manners. Like it was
a sport where you literally couldn't say a word while they were playing. I
can imagine, like people with their lights and they're taking pictures.
Like that's just disrespectful. You gotta kick those people out. Tennis is
a very strict sport. Even as a parent, when I go to Jordan's tournaments, we
are not allowed to speak to the player while they're playing. It's very quiet.
It's very silent. The opposite of what you were encouraged to do in the
influencer world. Take pictures, take video pose, you know, go viral. That is
frowned upon. I mean, the Capitals made me a win for Windsor, which is lovely
to go to the games. But even when I'm there, I try to clean up for myself, not
cause disturbance. Tony piece the best influence that we know because he is so
kind and generous. These guys like the pendulum is gonna swing the other way
with influencers. People are getting tired of it was cool for a while, but
that window is closing for people like this in your practicing dances as
adults. Yeah, and that's the whole thing. When you when you about the
equipment and you're distracting other people because you're trying to boost
your own personal brand. That's that's all that money for U. S. Open tickets.
And I had a group of influencers sitting next to me at the U. S. Open. I
would be upset. All right. Well, clearly this is a problem we don't
have. But America is at a loss for words. New research finds people are
talking a lot less than they used to. The average person speaks about 30%
fewer words a day than they did 20 years ago. The loss of language was
worst among people under age 25. Researchers say the plunge is likely
tied to what they call the convenience economy, where you can order pretty much
everything instead of going out and interacting with people. So sure, in
less small talk like it or not. Yeah, something we can't relate to it all. I
feel like sometimes at the end of the night, I just need to stop talking. I
think, you know, it's I blame technology, right? We don't have to go
and ask anybody anything anymore. You know, Hey, where's the nearest? Oh, you
know, where? How do I get here? GPS. I feel like everything is just on our
digital screens now on our phones. So that even little conversation you have
with people is not the door. Yeah, because we talk for a living. I don't
think this applies to us. But when you when you just said, Where's the nearest?
Yeah, I thought about what is the last time someone asked you for directions
or when is the last time you asked someone for directions? Just listen to
hip hop nowadays, like a little nut face and all these little guys. They're
not using. It sounds like it could be an out of Israel or not, but they're not
even using words anymore. That's just like mumbling where they speak
storytelling. It's not that because we've forgotten how to spell words. I
can't spell restaurant to be fair. So all this changes a place to eat at. But
words anymore. For real, you can spell restaurant. I can't. R. E. S. T. A. U. R.
A. N. T. Restaurant. Somebody's coming back. No, I see. I'm not a big fan of
small talk. I when I say words, I want them to mean something, which again why
this show is completely against my whole principles. But no, that said, I
think there's something to be said about making sure your words carry
weight and meaning. And sometimes I I think silence can tell the story more
than anything else. But you know, we're talking about under 25. We're social
media. So that applies to me texting, texting the fact that you know, the
fact that writing is so everybody's writing is so poor these days because
nobody's focusing on the fundamentals of being a good, efficient writer. It's
about how many words you can cram in on your phone and tap them out in a text
message, right? Yeah, I can't even write anymore. Actually, like letters. No,
thank you. Can't do that. Who writes with a pen anymore? I don't. I do. Okay,
I guess. But what I realized is I write all capital letters. That's what I'm
always writing. Yeah, only to Santa. That's why I do this stuff. At least the
younger generation. That's who I really feel bad for. It's like at least we had
the foundations of everything. We're choosing not to follow people that are
now. This is their holy grail. Yeah, we're sad. All right, coming up. Coke
or Pepsi. Why your favorite soda may have less to do with your taste buds
will explain after this. Are we talking about R. C. Cola to the whole coke
versus Pepsi discussion? It was was big in the eighties and nineties. I don't
think we talk about that much anymore, but the rivalry continues. But your
preferred choice may have to do less with your taste buds than you think.
Research suggests branding memories and even cultural connections shape which
soda we think tastes better. Coke is still the top selling soda, but Pepsi
says blind taste test can sometimes challenge people's loyalties. So
Sharon Coke, Pepsi or neither. You know, I haven't had like soda soda in so long.
So yes, this was a conversation for like over a decade ago, but I was always
team Coke. It definitely tasted different for me. Uh, and still hits
really good. Like once in a blue moon, like I'm like, Oh, I want like a, you
know, yeah, I'm indifferent. I just hate people. I do. I can only do caffeine
free because one can of coca pepsi must be nice. What a flex. If one can of
coca keeping up all night, I would need like a million of those. I just can't
stand those people where it's not actual cocaine anymore. I've heard I am
team Coca Cola, but I will say I know of someone who did a thesis on this and
apparently so does have the optimal taste at a certain temperature. So I
like my coca cola very, very, very, very cold. I don't mind a pepsi, but I
prefer a coke. This is this goes to my mother, who always prefers a fountain
coke for McDonald's. You know, they mother too, right? I wonder if it's
generational. Our moms are probably around the same. It's the way that they
they get the syrup, I believe, because it comes in. I think if I like metal
tanks as opposed to boxes, I know as a kid when I worked in my dad's bowling
alley and we would change out the we had pepsi there and the pepsi machine,
it was you had these boxes with the syrup and you have to put a little wow
knob on the on the box and it would mix with the and it's the perfect
temperature. My mother loves coca cola from McDonald's. Wow, that's my
girlfriend. I don't think it tastes any different. Yeah, but again, I'm an
idiot. So what do I know? Well, the whole debate now is like, okay, coke
zero or diet coke. And I find that people are very, very defensive about
their diet coke love versus coke zero. I'm a coke zero fan. We've established
on the show before. Uh, the taste really, they both have zero calories,
but I think it's just the way that they sweeten it. Coke zero with cherries
also good to get a little bit crazy. Come on now. All right, when we come
back, we're gonna take a look at our poll question. We asked what you think
about asking guests to remove their shoes. 55% of you like it. 45% of you
don't come back after this.
One more look at our poll. We asked what you think about asking guests to
remove their shoes. We saw a flip. 59% of you like it. 41% of you do not
stick around for. Do you like it or not? On fox local with producer chris
and shirin making her way over to the zoom room. You can talk with shirin
and chris by scanning that QR code and joining them in the zoom room as well
