Breaking Down EVERY Jets Practice Squad Player (Part 3️⃣)
Sep 4, 2026
Part three of breaking down every player on the Jets practice squad. We've already talked about
nine players. Those videos are already up. We're going to talk about four more today.
Let's not waste any time. Let's get into it. First player we're going to talk about is
quarterback Bailey Zappi. I think a lot of Jets fans were surprised when the Jets brought back
Zappi on their practice squad after the terrible preseason and overall summer that he had, but
the Jets needed a practice squad quarterback and Brady Cook was inexplicably claimed off
waivers by the Dolphins. So the Jets just stuck with Zappi. I get it. And honestly,
I agree. Zappi is a wholly uninspiring choice as QB3. He was definitively outplayed by Brady
Cook in the summer, but this is a guy who has started nine NFL games and won basically half
of them. So I guess there's something there. He knows the playbook. He knows the system. He was
here in the summer. I would prefer the Jets look for other options as like a veteran backup on the
practice squad, but for now Zappi's here, whatever. Next, and this is a super interesting one. It's
running back Al J. Henderson. Henderson was not in camp with any NFL team this summer. In fact,
the first time he signed a professional contract was literally this week when he signed a practice
squad contract with the Jets. He actually was a rookie mini camp tryout back in May and did not
ultimately sign with the Jets, but every young undrafted running back the Jets had on the roster
this summer got hurt. So they called up Al J. Henderson and now he's their practice squad
running back. I remember Henderson at Buffalo too. I have watched more than my fair share,
probably more than what is a healthy recommendation amount of Mac football over the last few years,
but Henderson rushed for over 1,800 yards combined over the last two years. He's a former
all Mac selection. He's a smaller compact runner, and it's just cool that he's gotten this NFL
opportunity after he literally wasn't in camp with any NFL team. Like you don't see that very often.
Next up is Xavier Newman, who is one of the veterans on this Jets practice squad. Newman
worked as the second team center for the entire summer, but he struggled with snapping and the
Jets wisely went out there and acquired Jordan Meredith, who appears to be the new backup center.
Newman has been with the Jets for the last three years. He's appeared in something like 25 NFL
games, and honestly, he's perfectly fine backup guard depth, especially on the practice squad.
He's just not a center, and the Jets should not play him there. The last guy we're talking about
in this video, it's second year defensive tackle Peyton Page. Page originally signed with the Jets
as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson last year, and he made a handful of appearances late
in the season, and I thought he actually impressed a bit in the preseason, finishing second on the
team with five total pressures, and that was enough to warrant a practice squad spot again
this year. He spent all four years of his college career at Clemson, eventually becoming a full-time
starter in 2024, where he would go on to earn third-team All-ACC honors, and if you're starting
defensive lineman at Clemson, you're doing something right. I'm glad the Jets were able
to bring him back as young developmental defensive tackle depth on the practice squad.
