Here's some breaking news.
The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to make moves, but more importantly, we just got a huge update
surrounding Joey Porter Jr. that changes the entire outlook of the beginning of the regular
season just a little bit away.
We're going to break down that huge Joey Porter Jr. update, as well as discuss some interesting
reports that are starting to fly surrounding his extension and the situation there.
But not only that, we have an update surrounding DeSean Elliott that is very, very unfortunate
news.
They have made a move surrounding him that none of us wanted to see or hear a ton of
gore on this episode.
But before we get into it, a very quick reminder to hit that subscribe button.
You guys have been a beast of support and folks, there's going to be daily videos continuing
on this channel every single day.
We had like five videos yesterday, six videos.
You're enjoying the Daily Steelers content.
It's not going to stop.
Make sure to hit that subscribe button, folks.
Let's dive right in to it.
There is a lot to discuss today.
So let's start with this.
So let's start with DeSean Elliott before we dive into the Joey Porter Jr. stuff.
So the Steelers officially placed DeSean Elliott on the IR, which is actually a pretty shocking
move here because, I mean, I was hoping that that wouldn't be the case because now, of
course, he's going to miss the first four games of the season.
But you can see here the veteran safety suffered a season ending knee injury in week eight
of last season while he stated that he was 100 percent healthy and even participated
in a game in the preseason.
He is now on the IR and is required to miss at least four games to start the season, and
he will not be eligible to play against the Falcons, the Patriots, the Bengals or the
Browns, but could play against Indianapolis Colts on October 11th if all is healthy.
It's unclear at this time if this is directly related to his previous injury or something
else.
So this is where it's wild.
Right.
It's a pretty surprising move here.
A very unfortunate turn because all offseason we've heard about how DeSean Elliott is healthy.
DeSean Elliott's good to go.
Vibes are pretty high.
And then all of a sudden, within the plethora, like 30 plus moves they made yesterday, it
felt like the one that went under the radar was the fact that DeSean Elliott is is done,
like done for the first four games.
Him being placed on the injured list or I guess injured reserve is very, very unfortunate
news and quite surprising.
And we think back to the second preseason game of the preseason just a few weeks ago,
he played or a few whenever it was, he played 20 total snaps in that game for tackles, forced
a fumble, and he looked really, really good.
Now, I don't know if we covered in the channel or not, but after the game, of course, Mike
McCarthy came out and said that Elliott was feeling it a bit and would miss the next practice.
But then he did return to practice that he didn't participate in the final preseason
game.
Very strange, very strange stuff.
And obviously, DeSean Elliott is a very solid player when healthy, only played one game
last year, and his health has been the biggest problem, right?
Six games over the past two seasons, but prior to that has shown some flashes.
And I think when you look at this team and the way that they're kind of constructive
right now, they do have depth, kind of to be able to kind of sacrifice, you know, not
sacrifice, but to be able to kind of cushion the blow a little bit.
You can see here with Elliott out, the Steelers will need to lean on veteran safety Rashaun
Jenkins, who joined the team late in the process.
Obviously, Robert Spears Jennings is probably not going to get some meaningful playing playing
time alongside, obviously, signed Jaquan Brisker in the offseason.
I think they're going to be OK right now.
They could also, you know, go after a guy like Gino Stone, who's available.
There's a lot. I mean, there's offensive tackles that are available.
There are a lot of names that are available for this team.
And obviously, yeah, I don't know.
It's a little bit unfortunate, to be honest.
I was kind of excited to see him play.
And you can see here for more context from Nick Faribault, a bit of a shocking move for
the Steelers. Again, they placed him on the aisle and he was feeling it a bit.
So even reporters who were on scene and on site the entire preseason, like Nick
Faribault says that it's just shocking move.
And that's just kind of the way that it is, because it is a shocking move and one that
is extremely unfortunate, especially for somebody into Sean Elliott, who hasn't played a
ton of games this season.
And you can see here, I obviously said that he played one game played in twenty, twenty
four. He played 15 games, twenty, twenty five.
He only played five games.
So it's going to be interesting to see kind of what happens.
And obviously on this graphic, he played that one preseason game, which is where twenty
twenty six is.
So it's going to be interesting.
We'll kind of see what happens with him and where things go.
Had a very solid year in twenty, twenty four.
Hopefully he can continue that because amidst the craziness, which was the ton of moves
they made, they obviously waved a bunch of guys and Jack covered it yesterday.
I'm talking about most notably like Lou Nichols being a little bit surprising.
Danico Slaughter, it is interesting there.
Now, among that is great news surrounding Joey Porter Jr.
Now, you can see here, this is not the right thing.
I'll find it right now for you guys.
And you can see here the Steelers have officially activated Beast Joey Porter Jr.
So he's activated off the puff, which means he's going to be available for the first four
game or obviously beyond that.
But he is available for the first four games of the regular season
and kind of in opposite fashion to Deshaun Elliott.
He will be able to play starting the beginning of the regular season,
which is very, very good news.
Obviously, we're talking about his injury.
And you can see here on paper, he missed all of training camp
and the preseason because of a back injury.
He was placed on the physically unable to perform list.
Also was held out during OTAs and mini camp.
Talking about the contract situation, of course,
you have a Sunday Samuel Jr., you have Jamal Dean.
You still have a lot of guys who, again, a lot of the veterans,
they don't need a ton of reps anyway.
So we're going to see what happens when the actual regular season begins.
But it is very, very great news that he was activated off puff,
which means, of course, he passed his physical.
And him passing his physical is very important at a time now
where A, he's fighting for a contract with the Steelers and B,
they're going to need him to play well to help round out this defense
because obviously you lose the Sean Elliott.
You do have some, you know, you have to call him brisker.
You have Rayshon Jenkins now.
But Sean Elliott was Pennsylvania's kind of the starter for the cornerback room.
You have Jamal Dean.
You have Jalen Ramsey as the nickelback.
George Porter Jr. is your star guy.
And everyone's talking about when is an extension going to happen?
Are they getting closer to a potential actual extension?
Is it going to go through?
Is it not going to go through?
There are tons of conversations about it.
And guess what came out early this morning?
Jerry Dulac.
Now, probably another video later today on it, maybe tomorrow.
I'm just clicking wrong stuff everywhere here.
Here it is right here.
PPG's Jerry Dulac believes the Steelers and George Porter Jr.
will get a deal done by next week.
I still expect them to get a deal done before the end of next week.
We'll see.
I think some of that's going to have to be some more realistic negotiating
on maybe the other side.
I don't know the number,
but obviously the fact they've been nowhere near getting a deal done
means that somebody probably wants way too much money.
But I still believe because they want to sign him.
I still believe they'll get a deal done because we see this happen many,
many times.
So Jerry Dulac, whether you want to trust him or not,
he's pretty plugged in overall.
This is really, really good news.
I need and I want Joey Porter Jr. on this team.
We can talk about the contract situation.
We can talk about how much he wants.
I'm hoping he moves a little bit if the number that he's asking is outrageous.
We're not privy to that number.
We don't know how much he's actually actually asking for.
But what we do know is that, hey,
I would sure as hell love to have him on the season to start the team.
And there's been a lot of people calling out, you know, Joey Porter Jr.
And the vibes seem OK around the team, but they desperately,
desperately kind of need him, right, to play.
Because if you look, I don't even want to look at the defense without it.
But this is good news.
And it's a good report from Jerry Dulac here.
I'm hoping that that is the case.
When you look at it overall, usually it figures itself out.
But it has been a bit of a whirlwind offseason, right?
We think about the injury, obviously, the physically unable to perform
as the back injury, not sitting out a little bit, but also because the injury
it's kind of forced him now to where after all the rosters are,
you know, which they are finalized.
Now you have Jalen Ramsey, by the way, who was also activated on the pup.
Brandon Nichols returned.
Dalen Everett, the third round pick.
Seems like he's going to get some playing time.
He's rounding out the room.
Things are feeling pretty good.
You obviously have Eli Heidenreich as well.
They decided to.
I'm happy with the moves they made, but comment down below
what your guys thoughts are on it.
It's a little bit crazy right now.
We're going to have a full video
probably covering the joy for junior stuff later on today or tomorrow
because there is a lot of stuff there, some back and forth happening.
Hopefully they can find a middle ground.
Thank you guys for watching. You guys are beast.
