Who knew Southern Taiwan was a tropical paradise? The entire bottom part of the island is comprised of parkland, Kenting National Park, with ample places to hike, swim, and motor around to see the beautiful scenery. On this particular day I rented an e-bike and spent the day making a giant loop starting in the adorable town of Kending. Don't miss the beauty scene from the e-bike and on foot. It's a lovely chill area and one that has few tourists - most everyone goes to Taipei vs. this area.
NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? Eileen and I love to travel and share entertaining and helpful information with friends and family. Previously, it was by email; however, although it takes more time and effort, a video is a much richer and engaging content so that is why we have switched to YouTube. Now, in addition, we now have you as a viewer as an added bonus and we look forward to getting to know you and what you are interested in, so please comment often.
All we ask is that you have patience with us as we get better making videos and tell us what you would like to see for future content. Hopefully, you will be as blown away from watching as we were experiencing and producing our adventures for you to learn from and enjoy!
Alright, time to hit the road. Got my bike and we're off and motoring.
This is Sail Rock, a sailboat about to set sail from a certain angle. Definitely don't see that
from here, but it also has been named Nixon's Rock because they say that the profile looks
like Richard Nixon's face. Okay from this angle I definitely see the profile of Richard Nixon,
that's hilarious. So making some progress around the peninsula here,
back down to Kenting. So that's the plan for the day.
Alright, it's the tourist suspension bridge. Cost 20 New Taiwan dollars to cross,
which is about 80 cents. So far it's been a great day on the e-bike. No issues, no accidents,
so that's a good thing. Perfect day, beautiful, very windy, but loving the time here.
I need to figure out where I am and where I need to go next. I think I'm crossing back
through the middle of the island now. I'll have to check that out. So I am really amazed. I had
no idea. I think these are dragon fruits. Yes, they definitely are dragon fruit. And I had no idea
they were a succulent, though it doesn't surprise me now that I'm looking at them. How cool is that?
I've never seen a dragon fruit growing before. So I'm walking to the eternal flame or the area,
the mud area that is always releasing gas from the earth. I'm kind of like my husband.
So you'll get to see it in a second. Okay, so the flame was a big bust,
but I'm glad that I went to see it and at least know it. I'm going to head into Hangchen now
and check out the town and also hit the Starbucks. These gates are great.
After a full day on the bike, I'm back in Kending, my home base. The e-bike around the peninsula was
beautiful, as you can see, and definitely well worth the time and cost. E-bikes are not cheap
in Kending. Mine was almost $14 for the day, but the good news is you don't need an international
license. The bad news is you are definitely limited by the battery life. There is a tourist
bus that does the same route, but you lose a lot of time waiting at each bus stop and you sacrifice
freedom for cost. It's up to you and your goals for the day. But the night market is just getting
up and running, so I will return the bike now and grab some street food for dinner.
